I know you're giving just your opinion and it's valid. But he is a dad and he was not going to leave her stranded. Is it something I would have done? NO. Some people walk unto burning buildings and the homeowners are not even family. So maybe it would be in your best interest to keep this advice to yourself. It is his daughter afterall.

Since you do have electricity at the house, you might want to have a small fridge at the house stocked with some basics, like drinks and snacks. You never know when you will find yourself stuck there again. Also, the sooner you can get one of the bathrooms up and running , the better off you will be for similar situations.

In the 35 years we've been in our house we had I major event of flooding in the basement. We put on a dedicated sump hole and pump because you never know when the weather will get wild. Every winter I turn on the pump power. At least a dozen times the groundwater has come up to fill the hole over the years and the pump kept the basement from flooding. And we live on a hill! So when you get a chance put in a dedicated sump hole and pump because you never know when it will save your basement.
@peggynorton5145
@peggynorton5145 Месяц назад
Yes and make it a few inches below the level of floor. Once we dug our hole down, it hasn't flooded over the floor since. Gutters also help with the water away from the house. Just make sure your downspouts are far enough to have the water away from the house also.

See this type of weather in Texas and authorities warn us about driving thru flooded roads like that. So many ignore the warning and their cars are swept downstream and they have to be rescued. We then have to be more aware of washed out road areas. Such fun! At least this gives you an idea of how your little house will weather the storms. Do love the sound of the water moving thru your back creek area! Such a good experience for you to deal with the sump pump now since others are around to help you. You can deal with it confidently if it ever happens again.

In AZ we deal with flash flooding fairly frequently. If there's a big storm, it's hard for the water to soak in because of the clay soil. If fact, initially the clay will close up before it begins to soak up water. So flooding if pretty common. There's a law in AZ that if people drive through flooded roads that are marked as such and they get stuck; they get the bill from the state/county/city for getting them out of the mess. It was called the stupid drivers law, I think. Water comes quickly, does incredible damage and then disappears. It's a humbling reminder that we definitely are not in control.

We live in Southeast Texas and in the country too. Our road is one way in and one way out and has flooded over a lot. We can't get in or out until it recedes. Ours is usually accompanied by power outages so our little community will go down to "the high water" as it's called around here, set up BBQ pits and people will bring foods and meats down to cook instead of losing it all. It's fun for us as long as no one's house is flooded or hurt.

I was born and still live in Florida. We're used to these storms. We always have our buckets to collect water for the toilets in case the electricity goes out. Always have some canned foods and a generator to run the fridge. These things and more we do just before these storms start. Welcome to my world. My eldest son lives in Sarasota they got 17 inches of rain from Hurricane Debby. So look out there are more coming!

Several years ago, we got 17" of rain over a few hours. Many creeks over flowed and a small dam washed out amd flooded a business. It looked very similar to your video. Never underestimate the power of rushing water! Also, we live in a rural area and it's important to grade the landscape away from your house as much as possible. Rain gutters and the right size sump pump wot a dedicated cord. You never know when you'll need it! 😊 We put in new culverts and deepened the ditches so they could handle more water.

As bad as it seems, you’re lucky! Here in Eastern North Carolina, tropical storms, hurricanes and nor’easters are regular occurrences. Debby dumped a bunch of rain on us. For 3 days Wednesday Thursday and Friday, then more storms Saturday and Sunday. It’s storming right now and it’s a long train of rain tracking over our area, so we’re probably gonna be getting another 2-3 inches today. Flooding is a constant threat during this season.
