He'd brought golf clubs because spring training is usually somewhere with nice warm climate and Dorn is already checked out professionally so he's focusing on golfing.

Yes, pitchers are known for using sticky substances or sandpaper, etc as a means of screwing around with the ball to give their pitches more movement. It's not uncommon for pitchers to get caught cheating which results in an automatic ejection
@fahqfassebookman5157
@fahqfassebookman5157 3 месяца назад
The way you really get action (movement) on a ball is with moisture or a sticky substance. So some the guys without the hot arms and killer fastballs do indeed use whatever foreign substance they can get away with. But with so many foul balls it doesn't really work as a good cheating move. And if the ump inspects the ball and catches you you are suspended.

So many classic moments. One of my favs is Dorn during their plane flight. He acted like he was looking around lol.

Charlie Sheen actually had a 96 mph fast ball. He actually could have been a major league pitcher!

I just read Rob Lowe's book. He grew up with Charlie and Emilio. He said Emilio was gonna be an actor and Charlie was gonna be a ball player. When my late husband taught me all about baseball, "Major League ll" had just come out. He said immediately that "Charlie had definitely played some ball." Funny how he became a much bigger actor than his brother.

The one game playoff is because they are tied for the American League East title. Back then there were fewer teams that got into the playoffs, so they needed to win the AL East just to get into the playoffs.

Yep, 162 games per season - more of a marathon than a dash. as they say, you'll win 60 and lose 60 - it's those other 40 that will determine your season.

Between this and the sequel, Wesley had starred in a couple action movies and thought that he was better than playing willie again. They kept willie but recast him with Omar Epps then gave him the story that he filmed an action movie during the off-season and it completely bombed

THe one game playoff in the A.L. and best of three in the N.L was when the A.L. East or West was tied at the end of 162 games.

One of my top 3 baseball movies. Watch it every year in the spring. -writer of the movie was a Cleveland fan and because they were so bad for so long thought this was the only way he’d see them win -Cleveland won the pennant in 1995, 6 years after this movie came out -this was a major factor in closers (then everybody) coming out to music -Charlie Sheen was recruited for baseball in hs and was pitching in the 80s in the film (which is pretty impressive for a non athlete) -Vagasil Pitcher Harris was modeled after a Gaylord Perry a real hall of fame pitcher that admitted to regularly cheating during his career -many pro ball players say this one of the most accurate baseball movies because of all the interpersonal club house stuff -Miami got a team in 1993

I'm from Cleveland. Definitely a sports city even thou most are teams suck. Ppl still go to the games. When the Cavs won in 2016. It was the biggest sports parade in American history. 1.3 million ppl showed up. Indian's are now called the guardians. Thanks to the sensitive world we live in. Crazy thing is. They asked over 10k native Americans. Do they feel it's racist. 98% said. No. It was liberals that was triggered. Isn't that something...

@fahqfassebookman5157
@fahqfassebookman5157 3 месяца назад
No, it's about the racist caricature logo. Chief Wahoo has been racist since day 1. I'm a lifelong cleveland fan too. It's just true. Yeah there's tradition. But many of those traditions were racist from the beginning. Just cuz it's 70 years old doesn't mean it's not wrong. Watch out for "liberals" -- both useless and able to control your life! I bet you try to protect racist statues from being pulled down also, with no understanding of who put them up in the first place, and why.

Great reaction. You were in it, the whole time. I questioned your baseball knowledge when you didn’t know how many games were played every year but other than that one thing, you knew exactly what was going on play by play. Well done; I enjoyed watching it with you.

Also most of the movie was filmed in Milwaukee, they couldn't get Cleveland stadium, and at the time Ohio was tough to film Hollywood movies in (much easier now). But those extras are Brewers fans and all of the stadium shots with actors were done in Milwaukee. The crew of the Cleveland scoreboard had to send all their scoreboard animations to their Milwaukee counterparts to make it look like a real indians game. Those are the genuine graphics from the cleveland scoreboard running on the milwaukee board.

One of the best baseball movies ever. My uncle played in the big leagues and he swears all this humor is totally appropriate on a baseball team. The Indians were so bad before the 90's that this is all very believable.

"JUST a bit outside." Fun Fact: Neil Flynn's film debut. What Script Fact: Harry Doyle's (Bob Uecker) famous "JUST a bit outside." was ad-libbed.
@BigGator5
@BigGator5 Год назад
Historical Fact: Ken Keltner was the 3rd baseman on the 1941 Indians whose fielding heroics helped end Joe DiMaggio's 56-game hit streak.
@BigGator5
@BigGator5 Год назад
Location Location Fact: The home game scenes were filmed at Milwaukee's County Stadium, which has since been torn down, where Bob Uecker, who portrays announcer Harry Doyle, called games for the Brewers and played for the old Milwaukee Braves. The exterior stadium shots use Cleveland's Municipal Stadium, which has since been torn down.

Movie Magic Fact: Charlie Sheen was a high school pitcher who was offered a baseball scholarship to the University of Kansas. In the movie, he threw a 101 mph fastball, but in reality Sheen only could throw in the high 80s. Many tricks were used to make the actors seem like they were as good as their characters. For example, the pitching mound in a real baseball stadium is 60'6" away from the home plate, but to give the impression that Charlie Sheen's 85 mph fastball was traveling 100mph, they moved the mound up 10 feet and shot from behind the plate so the viewer wouldn't notice the distance difference. Also, all Wesley Snipes' running scenes are shown in slow motion to give the impression that he is running faster than he actually is.
@BigGator5
@BigGator5 Год назад
Life Imitates Art Fact: Real-life relief pitcher Mitch Williams (with the Chicago Cubs at the time of the film's release) was inspired to model himself after the Rick Vaughn (Charlie Sheen) character. He began to wear the number 99 and had Wild Thing (1966) played when entering games, shortly earning the nickname "Wild Thing" himself. In addition, the modern day tradition of relief pitchers, mainly closers, having their own intro songs was largely inspired by this film. During the 2016 baseball season real-life Cleveland Indians players Jason Kipnis and Mike Napoli acquired two Jobu statues and set them up in a shrine in the team's locker room at Progressive Field. They initially placed an offering of vodka in it but then switched to rum, resulting in a 6-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays in June. In July they even sacrificed a supermarket chicken to help end teammate Yan Gomes' slump.
