My hair always shrinks in twists, but it has grown so much in the past few years. I consistently wear twists and occasionally wear it in other styles a few times a year. I don't care how short it looks anymore because I know that natural hair is longer. It doesn't matter what other people think
@curlsruleeverythingaroundme
@curlsruleeverythingaroundme 5 месяцев назад
I feel you completely. Controlling the narrative of your own hair texture and embracing your shrinkage is the most freeing feeling ever. The fact it shrinks in the first place is a testament to its health & that it has the ability to reach its longest length potential & why we see the progress we do. I’m in twists the majority of the time too & love it.

Been doing twists for 2 months and my hair has grown exponentially. Make sure you start your journey with a good trim and fresh ends so you don’t have to cut all your new growth off. :) it has been so low maintenance

I just started wearing twists again and it has been a game changer. My hair is way more moisturized, my ends are healthier, and I’m seeing the length. I def agree with learning how to wear your hair out and not caring about what others thinks. That acceptance of your hair is such a beautiful process once you lean into it ❤

I wanted to message you once again. God bless. I have been enjoying the mini twists. I kinda felt like a little kid wearing them, however, I have been looking at myself from a different lens and I appreciate my natural beauty even more. It is still transitioning from extreme heat damage but I notice it is growing….it is getting thicker and staying much more moisturized. God bless

Thank you for sharing I’ve been working up the courage since I was 25 to wear my natural hair. Finally 30 and starting to see that I love my hair I live in my skin and I’m so proud to be who I am and despite the prejudice thrown at our hair we control what is normal and I am so tired of always wearing wigs or panicking when it’s time to go to an event because I am not ready to pay$400 to get braids or have time to box braid my own hair. Im ready to just exist within my own self and break the chains that I placed on myself. Our hair is beautiful. Time to twist it up and show the love to my hair and myself that it deserves. ❤❤ your hair is beautiful 🤩

I lost all my hair a few years ago. From shoulder length to scalp length, all gone. I watched videos such as this and now I’m almost bra length and thicker than ever. I learned my hair porosity, use a shampoo brush which stimulates blood flow and encourages hair growth, deep conditioner, leave in conditioner and my favorite protected style is TWISTS.

I agree 💯 You have to start somewhere. And you can’t worry about what other people say. Because like you said, at the end of the day. It’s your hair. And you know what’s best for it. When I started my hair journey my twist was short. I kept it in twist consistently. Now it’s past my ear. It’s growing. Getting thicker, longer and stronger. I make my own oil. And I keep my hair and ends moisturized. I also make rosemary water. Which has really elevated my hair. Thank you for sharing!!! Sending you and everyone here love, light and good deeds.❤️❤️🙏🙏☮️☮️

@@curlsruleeverythingaroundme I totally agree. 👍 My journey has been spiritual. I suffered with thinning hair and alopecia. It was due from relaxers. I wrote down how I desired my hair to be. And I spoke it into existence. The same night. God showed me a vision. I saw myself in my bathroom. Braiding this long braid. Once I saw this. Everything started lining up for me. I researched this dermatologist. And I got this knowing feeling that this dermatologist was the person for me. On my first visit. She looked at my hair. And knew what I needed. I went from washing my hair every day. Using a medicated shampoo and a topical oil. I have made my own oil. And I now wash my hair every two weeks. My hair is now thriving and growing. So it has been a long journey. But it has been worth it. God has really restored my hair. Thank you for your video. ❤️🙏

Thanks for the encouragement. My hair has gone through several phases throughout my life but once I stopped listening to and letting other people play in my hair, my hair is flourishing and is now the longest and healthiest I think it’s ever been. All from doing what I think is right for me. It is challenging sometimes tho because I do wear a scarf or my bonnet when I don’t have my hair out to keep my hands out of it when it’s not necessary but my mom feels like I do it because I’m ashamed and often tells me that. I keep trying to explain it’s not that I’m ashamed of my hair but if I’m not really planning on going anywhere important then I don’t feel the need to go through the trouble of doing my hair everyday. Personally for me, I feel like that’s where the issues start from the constant manipulation everyday. Sometimes I get in depressed modes that can last weeks or months and in those times I might not do my hair a whole lot and if it weren’t for my scarves and bonnet, my hair probably wouldn’t continue to flourish the way it has been. I spent the majority of my life not really caring for my hair like I should and now I consider it a part of my self care. I do it in my way, how I feel comfortable and I’m glad I’m seeing results.
@curlsruleeverythingaroundme
@curlsruleeverythingaroundme 5 месяцев назад
Your method is perfectly fine! Keep doing what you’re doing. I’m in twists and scarves the majority of the time and my hair is in the best quality it’s ever been in. It’s way more beneficial to leave it alone for extended periods of time because low manipulation & length retention go hand in hand for our hair type. Nothing to do with shame. People sometimes project their own feelings of guilt, insecurity and shame on others & that’s their issue not ours. I save my hairstyles for moments when it really matters. I switched in and out of hairstyles way too often before my healthy hair journey & stayed baldheaded 😂😭 I was forever shoulder length. I’m grateful I learned about the balance of low manipulation/protective styling. I was getting no where styling my hair every single day.
@curlsruleeverythingaroundme
@curlsruleeverythingaroundme 5 месяцев назад
You made a great point. It’s DEFINITELY best to stay out your hair when depressed. EVEN if you’re not depressed but just super busy it’s best to leave it alone. I’ll throw a scarf right on. I’m adamant about being able to be gentle and really take my time with my hair. Rushing and ripping through type 4 hair can be equivalent to a hair cut. Nobody has time for that. I have a video talking about natural hair and mental health where I mentioned this too.

I wear twists and wear my hair out maybe twice a week-Sunday for church and one day during the week. Otherwise in twists and always a bonnet or scarf when I’m indoors. Mielle oil has helped my hair growth too because I oil my scalp and massage after weekly shampooing. My low porosity hair requires refresh/moisturize at least every 2 days and I’m okay with that too.

I’m so glad you addressed the little twists. I feel frustrated because my twists in the back are super long but super short in the Crown area and a lot of scalp shows
@curlsruleeverythingaroundme
@curlsruleeverythingaroundme 4 месяца назад
I noticed it’s really common for the crown to be shorter in length for many. I think it has to do with circulation. I like doing scalp massages (in that area in particular) Have you tried castor oil. Have you tried leaving the twists in for extended periods of time? I’ve repaired shorter sections by doing that.
@A_Wilson
@A_Wilson 4 месяца назад
@curlsruleeverythingaroundme Thats an interesting theory…lack of circulation for slower hair growth in areas. I’ve incorporated scalp massaging a few times a week as well. Castor oil is THAT girl, and pumpkinseed oil has been shown to stimulate growth and awaken hair follicles as well. 😊

Thank you for your video. I took your advice and 3 months ago I started to twist my hair without extensions. After 2 weeks I did my washday routine and re twist. My hair is healthy, growing and easy to manage in twist. The only problem I have is the front and middle are a lot shorter than the other areas. I’m hoping with time this will change. My 4c hair is fine so I’m still trying to find a method to make my twist look less stringy, any suggestions?

@curlsruleeverythingaroundme
@curlsruleeverythingaroundme 2 месяца назад
Cornrows can be protective too but there’s more of a risk for breakage tbh vs two strand twists and box braids yes I wash my hair in twists a lot. It reduces breakage and time it takes to do.

@@drlovie yesss to the moisture and minimal breakage ❤️ that’s my favorite thing about washing in twists. Thank you for sharing that. Your hair will definitely thicken as you continue to trim the dead ends as new hair grows. Damage travels up the hair shaft. That was the case for me too, I didn’t see my hair thicken & reach it’s full potential until I started doing certain things differently like protective styles & washing in twists.

@@curlsruleeverythingaroundme thank you so much for your reply :) my hair is staying more moist with the twists…the amount of moisture compared to the braids is significant! Why twists as opposed to braids? I don't get it. I get knots and tangles either way and my twists more likely to unravel than braids.

Mostly once every 2 weeks to once a month for detangling/moisturizing/retwisting. Sometimes I do washday, moisturize, and straight up don’t touch it again until my next washday 1 month later. This has been my schedule lately because of my schedule. If I feel like styling more, like twist outs, I’m moisturizing, detangling, retwisting 2-3x a month. Lmk if I should elaborate
