@@tokiwartuthe Mullen was a great offensive mind and at times a brilliant play caller. The problem with him was recruiting, coaching hires and evaluating talent. He brought in a lot of the soft as Charmin defensive players that are now the standard at Florida. He hired Todd Grantham maybe one of the worst defensive coordinators in the sport, and never fired him. And of course his horrific decisions to play Felipe Franks over Kyle Trask for two years until Franks was injured and Mullen had no choice. And starting the amazing Emory Jones over some guy named Anthony Richardson. Even Kirby Smart trolled the arrogance of Mullen essentially saying “You can’t out scheme every one you have to have talent and evaluate it better.” And Mullen was just incapable of doing it. Great offensive mind and play caller. But absolutely horrific at everything else. Florida deserves better.
😂Being an SEC coach is a dream job. Once you get the opportunity to become an SEC coach, you can become the worst coach ever, get fired and have millions in buyout money 😉.
I agree, but during negotiations other offers will not have this clause. To be competitive in the bidding process, schools throw everything at a prospect. It sucks
Billy should take more than half of his buyout and spread it out over the the Boards favorite charities. That money wasn't earned by him anyway. Better with the charities.

Georgia fan here who remembers when the Georgia-Florida (or Florida-Georgia) game would be an outstanding event with much riding on the outcome. Sad it is not that way anymore. Really feel bad for the Florida players and faithful fans.

Why is it such a hard concept to grasp. He signed a contract for X amount of money per year. He is owed $26M which is why they have to pay it to get rid of him. It would be breach of contract if they didn't.
I mean, it’s not impossible. Nebraska fired Scott Frost 2 years ago and paid him the rest of his contract after the 2nd or 3rd game into the season and had a stand in coach for the rest of the season. Either during or soon after the Iowa game, Matt Rhule was announced as our new head coach.
What a stupid culture we live in, our priorities are all screwed up. An absolutely lousy football coach will get to retire a silly rich man. Yet paramedics are living week to week on lousy paychecks for just saving lives, nothing important. Unbelievable.
The 10 year hire the next great coach experiment is over. A proven SEC caliber coach will be next. This is actually the best thing that could happen. They have the rest of the season to get the best possible hire. Have also heard stricklin is gone by December and won't get to be part of this hire. Personally, I hope it's kiffin. Hell, he can bring half his team with him. He already knows how to recruit Florida from FAU and has been good at using the portal. Lagway would want a great offensive mind and qb coach. And most of these recruits want to play with lagway. And Jimmy Sexton will rape the university for big money like he has everywhere..Florida is about to feel very different in those brand new facilities.

As a Florida fan it has been completely heartbreaking year after year. They hype us all up in the off season and then show nothing for it when it comes time to play. I want Stricklin and everybody gone! I was telling someone the other day this isn’t the gators I grew up watching. The gators I grew up watching came in and smacked u in the mouth and dared you to do something about it. It’s awful now. Really sucks for passionate fans like myself
I think he'll stay, he isn't here because of Billy, he's here because we paid him the most. As long as that money keeps flowing in, I see no reason why he would want to leave unless he gets a better deal.

Always cracks me up when people talk in hushed tones about the firing of a HC who's getting one of these golden parachutes. It's sad about their support staff, but I can't empathize with someone getting paid for all the work that they were hired to do but won't now bc they were so horrible at the work they did.
Nobody here seems to understand how contracts work. There are lots of contracts that don't include buyout clauses. University of Florida AGREED TO THIS. It is absolutely normal and VERY easy to understand....

You don't want a dead man walking feeling going on for a season, and all it leads to is players half ass playing then getting hurt. The entire board (not even just Napier and Stricklin) needs to be sacked alongside Napier. This is the 4th HC that has failed to lead them back to where they were with Urban Meyer, and they’ve shown an unwillingness to hire somebody with actual championship pedigree. They just hire hot coaching prospects who flame out instead.
100% on the trustees having a meeting. My thought's, talk with Urban to get through the season till a possible head coach or let him finish the season.

Give lane Kiffen a try,if Florida doesn't fix this problem soon the Gators football program could go into 2030 failing that would mean a whole decade the program has failed making it even harder to rebuild
we have 2 defensive coordinators, and couldn’t get a&m off the field. they ran it down the middle, just like everyone did last year. we were promised these things would be changed, but they are the exact same if not worse. the players play like they are just collecting an NIL check, defense doesn’t look like it even practiced since spring ball. just stupid.
Remember that after Mullen left to go to Missy State that despite all the talent on the team it struggled to score. I’m inclined to believe it was because Meyer was just burned out and turned most everything over to his assistants. He did go to OSU and turned their program into a machine so… However I’m not sure he would want to take a wack at coaching Florida again except to turn this program around and finally get his name put up on the ring of honor. At this time I think Lane Kiffin would be a better option if he would be willing to come here.
Ur right the AD must go too. Fla doesn't know how to hire good coaches as a rule. Some exceptions sure but overall they suck. The Gators must make gut decisions about what they want and intend to get.

The University administration is a bunch of slow pokes tha are behind the curve in everything like they were with the NIL. Strickland has only stayed around because other athletic programs are doing well. Maybe they need to clean up the administration overseeing this but in the meantime FIRE the coach who is awful!
