So exciting when the driveway goes in! When my cabin was built I literally had dozens of tree root balls to deal with. The driveway is slightly over 600 ft long. No way could I burn them all. So I hired a guy to pile them up in a kind of semi circle and cover with dirt. It is the best shooting area EVER! Steel targets. Dueling tree and paper targets. Maybe stage them away for a while until you figure where you might want a secure shooting area!
The one obvious point here is that this guy REALLY knows his way around power equipment. The amount of information and experience needed to operate these big boy toys is mind-boggling, let alone trying to maintaining and repairing them. Skid loaders, saw mills, wood splitters, dump trucks, excavators, the works. I tip my hat you you, Mike.
Mike! Long time loyal viewer first time commenter lol. Hate to see you down there working alone. Very isolated and although you are extremely safe accidents do happen. A lot different from your home property. Could be a long time before someone knows you are hurt. Would like to see someone with you, especially when cutting logs. Just a word of caution from a loyal viewer. Thanks for all you do. Love the channel.
Mike, the rental Rexcavator really performed well! You accomplished so much as one man. I enjoyed watching this process. Thanks for sharing Camp Morgan!
Living a dream … looking good … your place in Western PA is the first part of the dream for sure. I am sure this second part will be great. Good luck and enjoy!
It's coming along just fine Mike, Thanks for sharing with us, stay safe and keep having a great time. Thanks also to Hello Fresh for sponsoring the video. Fred.
Well I am watching all your videos in reverse. Been dealing with life for a few months. Now I’m back, retired and got quite a bit of time. Those trees don’t look as tall as your house has. But still a ton of wood. Looking like a great place to hunt from the ground. Love it.
First off, my husband and I enjoy your videos very much. Another youtube channel we recently started watching (Sampson Boat Co..) follows the rebuilding of a sailboat built in 1910. Very enjoyable. The one we watched last night was from 4 years ago. It is titled "Milling Live Oak in Deep South". We both thought of you right away and think you might find it interesting. Amazing wood and wait until you see the saw that fellow built. Hope you will have time to check it out. Our best to you and all of your family.
that brush if you bring the boss down there with the walinstein wood chipper between the 2 of you you could make short work of a lot of it ! and you reduce the chance of fire hazzard having that brush laying around right ! and hey the lovely melissa likes running that chipper right
I love hearing that stihl ripping through the woods and then the sound of the tree cracking and slamming the ground( awesome). Stay well, stay safe and yall HAVE A DAY
Mike, that's cool that you're obviously a fan of Ghosts of Liberty, a North Carolina band. "Roanoke River" is a great tune, and I especially like it since the actual river runs 30-40 miles to the north and northeast of here, at its southernmost reaches. I used to date a girl from Plymouth, NC, which is at the mouth of the Roanoke, where it empties into the Albemarle Sound.
Good Morning Mike from a soggy Gulf Coast, great work ,you know your way around a chain saw and an excavator! I am not sure I would be working alone though! Hopefully the rain will hold off!
hey mike, big paul from Canadensis pa, next bigger tree like that one try and leave an extra two or three feet on the stump side when you first drop it. then you can use the longer stump as a lever to help rock it back and forth until it brake loose. then chop the extra couple of feet off before you try and move it. that has helped me especially when your machine is smaller . your doing a great job !
Good morning (barely)! There’s a lot of lumber in those 3 logs. Back in the day, Dad and I cut some hickory logs for a sawyer to cut into full-inch 1x6 boards for a corral we built. There were two logs about like that butt log, and he commented on how much more lumber he could cut out of those, and how much more quickly. Funny thing about that corral - that hickory cured before we could built it, and we had to drill pilot holes almost the diameter of our 16p ringshank nails, and almost to the depth in the railroad ties we used for posts too. Almost like working in metal. Liked the music - I’m going to go play it for the Mrs.
Hey Mike, for the beginning of your road it is looking pretty nice. Score 1 & 0. 1 for Mike and 0 for stump. Great fight but you pulled that one out[pun time]. Stay safe up there and for privacy, grab a heavy duty fence gate at the road's beginning. Not saying but seeing wood down some may take it to mind to grab while cat away..
Hey Mike looks like great property! I’m not experienced in stumps but wouldn’t have been easier to knock over white pine to get roots out? Really enjoy your videos
@@duanevanwinkle3488 No It would not be wise, my father was a Journey Man operator for 30 + yrs and he had me running my first Cat D7 dozer at 7 yrs . I have been running and selling heavy equipment since then as well as training Individuals how to properly and safely run most all of the heavy equipment sold today. So that said, it would be VERY Unwise to attempt to take down a tree of that size with such a small excavator. Please get killed all the time taking chances like that. My father’s life long friend thought he could take down a very large tree and it ended up killing him. Mike did it right if you go back and watch his safety procedures! Safety First !
I have a 9000# excavator, dig down abot 4' deep, if not more, beside the tree OPPOSITE side from where you want it to fall, stretch boom out almost all the way , place teeth of the bucket against the tree and rock it back and forth. The leverage will bring it down and the stump will come with it. OF COURSE there are a lot of trees which are entirely too big and if thats the case rent a bigger excavator, then push over the ones you couldnt get. COMMON SENSE which Mike apparently has plenty of
Maybe you could consider putting in temporary storage for the excavator and skid steer at this site and then have both machines brought down and get into to what needs to be done for a few weeks with the heavy machinery, then take the machines taken back home.
Awesome Sir! Love watching ya'lls Channel, it gets my mind off the trouble in our country! Watching your channel gives me Hope for our Country! God bless and Thank you and your Family all!
We thought you were going to get a good start on Melissa's swimming pool with that hole in the ground left by that big white pine Mike. Great video thumbs up.
It sure helps when you know what you're doing and have ALL the right equipment, Mike !! Also, having a wife who gets "stuck in" on all your projects !! You're still one of my favourite channels !!
Great Job, I can sit here all day and watch this, I love to see clearing of woods to make way for progress and thanks for letting the cameras run, Bring extra batteries with ya.
Mike, this is very exciting to watch, can't wait to the next post. You've sperd me on to work on my property. Also you have shown, you gotta have the right equipment to work with, very inspiring. Thanks
Don’t let the pine logs sit too long before you mill them. They will attract pine borers that lay eggs and in no time will be eating holes. At least that’s what I have in Vermont. Two weeks ago I was swatting the bugs while milling.
In the old days in the Northwest, when building timber access roads prior to logging and area, we would have huge fir stumps to get out of the right of way. With the proper application of explosives under the stump (ANFO and 40%) we could literally vaporize them. I don't think OSHA would approve of this technique today, but it was very effective and lots of fun. I think with your abilities at milling and firewood production it would be worth doing very selective logging to thin the timber and make your Camp Morgan look like a park. I don't know where you would get all the time to do this, however. I love watching your development of the WV property. Thanks for putting all the effort that goes into producing these videos.
Ghosts of liberty should thank you. When hearing the song Roanoke river on this video I loved it and bought it on iTunes. Never heard of them until watching your video.
i bought a 'Quad-X Power Shredder Flail Mower' from an auction we went to yesterday, I've been using this morning and its well worth the money, getting between woodland and getting rid of grass and other brush... works well on the back of our quad bikes, or the small tractor... ideal for woodland areas you cant get your main mower into.
Well I hope you're right about the compaction there. That stump did leave a big hole. This is very exciting watching you getting started there at Camp Morgan. Literally hundreds of great projects we are looking forward to on you're channel Mike. So very nice of you to bring us along w you, thank you so much!👍🚜❤🇺🇸🇺🇸
Camp Morgan will be great. Just want to tell you something you already know. Your by yourself in a remote area with dangerous equipment. Be careful, things can happen to even the most experienced operators
Hey Mike, you got it looking real good. You’ve got some nice saw logs there. We love you’re properly there. It’s beautiful! Take care and have a good one! 👍👍👍❤️
GOOOOOD MAAAAAAAAWNIN & HAPPY TGIF EVERYONE!!! Gotta a great start! Are you wear your cutting chaps? 🤔 Great choice of music too imho Notice anything different on the newer excavator? Cya on the next one Have a Day HELLOOOO HUNTER!!!!
Mike I have a trail I started to get to the back of our property it's ONLY 1.5 miles LOL but with the tractor and the 3.5ton mini it should be fun Great video
👍👍👍👍great video great progress for the time you had, you seem to have an excellent plan and vision of your road through to the clearing , as always great camera work, and editing enjoyed the tunes while you worked thanks for sharing !!
