House is looking great guys! Riley, not sure if you know this, but next time you make a drawing in Solidworks and you want it to read in fractions, go to the bottom right corner of your screen where it says "IPS" and edit your "document units". You'll see a window pop up and you can enter the denominator you want in the "fractions" column. If you want it to show both the decimal and the fraction, click on the dimension and choose "dual dimension" on the bottom left side of the property manager.

When laying out a 16 inch on center wall most framers forget to mention to their viewers that the first spacing must be 15 1/4 inches from the edge of the corner stud. If you start with 16 inches for that first stud the edge of the plywood or OSB sheathing will not fall on the center of the stub at 4 feet.

I've never done or seen modern construction where king and jack studs were not used regardless of if a wall is load bearing or not. Here is what AI has to say about it. "On a non-load bearing wall, you would still use both "jack studs" and "king studs" around door and window openings, even though the wall itself isn't carrying significant weight; they are crucial for supporting the header above the opening and ensuring proper load transfer to the surrounding wall structure."

When you cut with the circular saw stand next to the cut, not behind the cut, especially when pinning the blade back or open, use a wedge, not a pencil if the saw kicks back it’s going straight for what you have in line with the weather in front of behind or under so stand next to your cut out of the way. It’s super simple and might save your leg one day or belly or arm

Dudes, Build the window and door frames separately and add them into the wall after. You get better options for tweaking material, and better nailing of the sills, headers and stacked kings and jacks. Added bonus, it is quicker. Also, Riley, o are a math guy, so cut the rake studs using the increase length based on the pitch. A construction caclulater will add it up for you (enter first stud length, the roof pitch, the standard spacing and the calc will spit out all the lengths in a string. Easey peasey.

FYI - 2 tips. 1) A pipe wrench works as a perfect board straightener when nailing - you must have a big pipe wrench already? 2) Solidworks will let you define a dimension style (favorite) where you define the units in either inches or feet + inches and then you can also force it to round to and display the nearest fraction of your choosing (very handy when working from Solidworks with an American tape measure).

Yellow Jacket recipe: 1 cup sugar dissolved into 1 cup hot water. Add 1 cup apple cider vinegar plus 1 tablespoon dish soap (to cancel the water surface tension). An open plastic dish with 1 inch of the mixture works way better than an enclosed bottle trap. Reserve the remaining mixture and replenish as required, otherwise it could evaporate too quickly, reducing the mixture to a honey consistency where the yellows could walk on it. I use a slotted spoon to pull out the victims so more of the friends can visit.

Riley, rest the large side of the saw on the beam when you cut on the edge because it's more stable and more accurate! When you put a beam in that has more than one king stud only put one in so you can back nail into the beam with the full length of the nails and then a few toe nails to lock it in, and then add the rest of your king studs in behind and nail them off, but don't forget to nail them to the top and bottom plates!

2x6 stud spacing depends on the number of stories in a building and whether the wall carries a load: One- and two-story houses: 2x6 studs can be spaced 24 inches on center.

I built a two story shop 22 years ago. I built the first floor and installed 1 1/8" OSB for floor and as soon as I got the floor down it rained for two weeks solid. I squeeged the floor a couple times a day, but the rain still ended up puddling everywhere on the OSB. When it was all said and done. The rain didn't bother the OSB at all. I installed it with the shiny side up and evidently it was quite water resistant.

I don't understand why there hasn't been a single view of any plans nor any discussion of architectural design, engineering, and the process of getting the project permitted. The number to the left of the decimal was the number of sixteenths. The number to the right of the decimal is a fraction of a sixteenth. .31x16=4.96 so just under 5/16.

Ya All is Havin way toooo much fun. Riley my Dad built houses in Indiana all his workin days and he would be proud of your wall and header layout. We did apply all of the sheeting before we raised the wall. But we usually had four of five guys to help. We also nailed braces on the wall, so those could be nailed to hold it up as we raised it. It's pretty embarassing to have the wall fall off the floor. LOL A friend got stung three times in his upper lip and his eyes swelled shut. The allergy Doc said he was allergic to the venom. So after that I finally got him to buy the "eppie pins" because he was at least 60 minutes by helicopter to the nearest hospital.
