I totally agree with you on the Washington DC trip. You have a right to feel that way, you have to do what’s best for your kids. It’s a crazy and scary world we live in. Karli isn’t going to be able to get the experience she would get if you guys were to go as a family. You guys could take your time and see things and go on tours, while with the school everything is going to be scheduled and probably rushed. Plus with the school you have a lot of kids and who knows what can happen or how some of them are going to act. Maybe if Karli wants to go to Washington DC you guys can take a family trip and she will probably get way more out of that than she would the school trip. 💗

I was allowed to go on the Washington DC trip without my parents and this was six months after 9/11.The teachers were very good about keeping a close eye on us and I always felt safe. I had a great time, lots of memories were made.

I definitely agree with you with not letting Karli go to DC. I’m 25 and I’m not even a mom yet and I would definitely not let my kids go even not being on RU-vid. This world is a scary and crazy place right now so I don’t blame you at all for feeling that way.

I completely understand where you’re coming from! I am new mommy of a 3 month old baby boy and I’m considering home schooling him when he gets old enough because this new generation is so unsafe to me. I’m very protective my youngest she is 17 and now driving and that scares the heck out of me ! I know I have to let her go but she is still my baby . I did let her go to a school trip witch I gather is our equivalent in Australia to your Washington school trip but we don’t really have to worry about shootings and such but it’s still hard to not worry about our world today . Anyway your doing a great job I love watching how different our lives are , everything from schooling to food to how you built your houses 😁 love you guys xxx

I get what you are saying about Karli being known on RU-vid being so young. However, do not let the acts of the world shy you away from living your life. By doing so you are simply letting letting “them” win. I went to Paris with my French class two years when I was seventeen a couple of months after the suicide bombing. Yes, my family was frightened about me going, but they didn’t want me to miss out on this opportunity of a lifetime. :) Also D.C. is very tight on security so the likelihood of something happening there is very unlikely. Does Karli enjoy hip hop dances more than the rest? She seems way more into them and she does a great job! (Not that she’s not good in the other dances) you can just tell she’s more comfortable ☺️

I went to Washington for my high school senior year grad trip - it was my first time out of the country without my parents (I live in Canada - it took over 9 hours to drive there by bus!) and I was definitely nervous to go. Despite wavering on whether or not I would actually attend the trip, I knew it was something I had to do for myself. I had an incredible time, learned a TON and felt so much more independent afterwards! This was in 2014 so the political landscape was a lot different haha, so i'm not sure how i'd feel about going there now either. You're not crazy, Candi!

I agree with you and your reasons for wanting Karli to miss out on the DC trip. I'm a true Washingtonian and have lived here since I was five so I understand the reluctance people have who haven't lived in an urban setting. In certain parts of our city you can't get out of your car or you shouldn't let your kids hang outside and to check out at gas stations and post offices you need to do your transactions between a glass shield, however not all of the city is like that. We're one of the most expensive cities in the country to live in and we have a lot of nice areas and history that make up for all the crime. Most people who come on family vacations and school trips are in the nicer areas. The monuments, the hill, and Georgetown are some of the nicest locations our city has to offer. I would definitely suggest taking a family trip to DC in the future. We have a lot to offer!!! keep up the good work with your vlogs!!

I’m the same way Candi! I’m very paranoid and protective, especially with the way the world is today! You have to do what you feel is right, whether people have something to say about it or not! My kids are only in elementary school and I worry everyday about these school shootings that I’m thinking of homeschool 😞 I know I can’t protect them always, but I would feel so guilty if something bad happened when I knew deep down that I shouldn’t have let them do something!

xxLuxenxx - I’m responsible for my children’s lives when they’re in a car with me. Watching for other people driving and paying attention to my own driving is up to me. At school they’re no longer under my protection and I rely on the staff at school to keep them safe. If there was a gunman in my home I have protection, at school my kids have a desk to hide under.

xxLuxenxx - LMAO who said I want to ban guns? 😂 I have over 20 guns of my own. Our school has armed guards, that’s not the problem. The problem is mental illness and guns getting into the wrong hands.

I agree with Candi about her first two issues with having Karli go to DC but the last I totally don't. I understand she isn't going so this isn't to persuade Candi to change her mind but I do want to say that where Karli and her classmates would be going is extremely safe. I just finished up my freshman year at The George Washington University which sits about 6 blocks from the Mall. I have been numerous time by myself (yes I am 19 but still) and I have never felt unsafe. There are TONS of security in that area and tons of tour groups, espically around this time of year. I get people being afraid because of recent events in the US but DC is extremely safe for being a major city and tourist attraction.

I live in Virginia, 10 mins away from Washington DC. I agree with everything you say, my mom is very paranoid about the same things and is pretty over protective. It gets to me sometimes, but I know it’s all worth it in the end:)

At work I help our girls get dressed for their dance class (I work at a preschool who has a dance instructor from a studio come in) and the other day we were walking to dance and one of my girl's tap shoes literally fell apart. The bottom just fell off. lol. Then the day of the recital she had to wear one black and one tan because the mom accidentally packed the wrong shoes. lol. (They are 4 so the dance teacher was cool about it but it was too funny) My mom didn't let me go to DC in 8th grade either. It was a few years after 9/11 so a lot of parents opted out. I have a feeling it would be the same if I were Karli's age now for the same reason you have. My mom was very overprotective up until I moved out at 23...now I am married to a man in the military and travel the world. lol.

Yes, I totally agree with you about watching your kids more than anyone else. I know other moms who are great with the kids but I think it is just the fact that I know my kids better than anyone else, besides my husband. I don't blame you for being over protective. Especally with having strangers come up to her and the boys. You just don't want to take that chance of something happening!

I feel the same way I am very protective of my child. Even though his grown and deaf I am still making sure where every he goes the movies, etc, I let the manager of the place know that he is deaf and let them beware of him and keep and eye on him because he can't talk with proper English. He went missing when he was younger for a while he was with his friends father and he wander off on a busy highway. The grace of god the people that found him was good people. I understand. This world is not safe with all of the shootings its so sad. Love to all!!!

I went on a class trip in 8th grade to D.C. (all the way from the west coast). It was when Obama was president. I don’t think my mom would let me go if I was in 8th grade right now. Things are just so different. You’re not crazy! 😊

For my recital this year I had a 1 number quick change and I had no time to do the strap thing in the back and I had the wrong headpiece and no shoes and I ran on late. It was a mess.

I went to DC but it was so cold when we went and I learned some things but really I didnt really wanna learn some things. I do understand what Candi is saying because we saw about 400 schools and then strangers and it was really really crowded.

Karli did a nice job at dance! My older boys went to DC and loved it. Gracie goes the fall of 2019, I will be going with her. More because of her heart palpitations. I want to be there with her and I don’t want her to miss out. She really wants to go. With our RU-vid channel Growing pretty good, and by the time we go, we should be bigger, and I agree with you there. Another reason why I’ll be going

Karli maybe look into a couch slip so they won’t keep messing it up it’s such a nice couch that could last years! Also loved your dances I couldn’t tell you were having issues with your tap shoes so you did a good job hiding it. Enjoy this break 😊

I went to Washington DC for spring break with like 60 kids from my school and it was like a vacation kinda but the only things I disliked about it was how we had to wake up at like 6am at the hotel and the fact that we all still had homework too but overall it was a pretty fun experience and I’m glad I went.

I understand. Recently, I just went to DC with my 8th grade class for three days, and I loved it, but I understand. Especially with 1 million subscribers, it's completely reasonable to not go.

i understand where you’re coming from Candi! you’re not being crazy! i went to Washington DC for 8th grade but that was back when almost everyone loved the president and there weren’t any major issues in the country. and only a select group of students from Honors were asked to go. i feel like the big class trips to DC definitely aren’t the safest bc theres always kids who can’t control themselves and theres just a ton of ppl to begin with. you guys are better off doing a family trip to DC in the future!
