I'm so grateful that I get to occasionally work with brands I actually like to create sponsored videos. Their direct support helps keep this channel afloat in the ever unstable world of RU-vid ad revenue. These videos will always be disclosed, of course, and I appreciate everyone's kind support for these partnerships. Royalty Soaps also participates in commission or discount affiliations, like Amazon or RewardStyle, as these opportunities become available, like Amazon and RewardStyle and while the money we make with these links isn't much, every little bit counts and once again, we really appreciate your support! These products will always be marked and disclosed with a "✦".

As an elementary art teacher I love love that you post when things go wrong. That is how crafting and art goes sometimes . I always ask my kids when do artists stop making mistakes? They often answer when they are adults or experts. I say “never” Our class motto is “make strong mistakes” because it proves you are taking creative risks and learning.

My niece wants to learn to crochet like her mom, or knit like me. But she wants to be perfect like us right off the bat. I keep trying to tell her that the more advanced you get, the more mistakes you make, but the better you get at fixing the mistakes (or the better you get at hiding them or shrugging them off). She doesn't believe me. Or rather, she didn't believe me, until she heard me mutter "oh crap" one day when working on a sweater. Her jaw hit the floor. I didn't tell her that it was super minor and only took me about 5 seconds to fix, only that I made a mistake. Wish she'd seen the mistake I made a couple weeks ago. Took me 2 hours to fix! (Super advanced lace, and I dropped a stitch that went down 3 rows...)

Well this cements the Duchess of Suds as true royalty in the soap making community. Not everyone would have the guts to post such a major fail and then go to all the effort of discovering why the failure happened and using it as a teaching moment for all our baby soap makers. Soap is a finicky art, and no matter how experienced and skilled you are, you're going to have the occasional batch go sideways.

Ice Age counts as obscure now? I thought Monster vs Aliens would be a bit more obscure than that one. :Va
@j4605
@j4605 3 года назад
@@TheKarret tbf the first ice age is 7 years older than Monsters vs. Aliens (2002 vs 2009). Think a bit people just remember it better because it became a movie series and not a lot of people watched the first one at least people I know. Edit: Both are very good movies imo
@TheKarret
@TheKarret 3 года назад
@@j4605 Yeah, true. Though, older doesn't necessarily mean more obscure - most people know a lot of Disney's old stuff, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, iirc was from the 30s, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, all well known and made long ago. Even other movies like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is still well-known and referenced. I don't think Monsters vs. Aliens got as popular as Ice Age - I was like 11 when that came out and I remember it being everywhere; I hardly ever heard anything about Monsters vs. Aliens; no promo for it, rarely aired on TV... it definitely seems to have fallen through the cracks, even though it's more recent, so that's why I suggested that one as an obscure movie. Movies that fall through the cracks are the ones that get labeled "obscure", while the popular old ones get "classic" instead. Frozen will probably be considered a "classic" to most people as time goes on because of how huge it got, with whole years going by of LET IT GOOOOOOOO etc; but I don't think Coco hit that same level of high when it first came out; it made quite a few hundred million less in the box office, it could fade and become more obscure in the future. That's all I was getting at~ o vob

Stages of this soap: 1)Condensed milk. 2)Latte. 3)Gravy mashed potatoes. 4)Raw pastry in cold oil. 5)Cheddar cheese. You should make an annual blooper reel of soap fails.

I'm going to use this to review the scientific method with my middle schoolers. I'm curious if you normally keep pH strips around to test soap, and if you did that off camera. It would be interesting to know the pH of the cured bars.

The first and only time I ever tried to make soap never set up. It got put up on top of a freezer and subsequently forgotten. Life happens. A few years later I found it and it still wasn't set up. It got thrown out. But I decided making soap wasn't on my things to conquer list. I'll just watch and buy bars of artisan soap when I can afford it.

@wendilandkammer8368
@wendilandkammer8368 3 года назад
@@vivienneallen5650 I'd need a large bank account to support trying to get it right as the products used can be very expensive. Until that happens I wouldn't consider going there. I suppose I could go really old school and learn how to render fat and how to make lye, but that would mean owning a farm and learning through the time honored tradition of the passing of knowledge from an older generation. That would be very interesting. In the mean time supporting artisan soap makers is as good as its going to get. But nice sentiment anyway.
@vivienneallen5650
@vivienneallen5650 3 года назад
@@wendilandkammer8368 I completely understand that. That's why I havent start yet either. I hope I can find Ingredients on sale or find someone else who wants to try it and split it. My family does own a farm so maybe I'll try to render the fat.
@wendilandkammer8368
@wendilandkammer8368 3 года назад
@@vivienneallen5650 if you decide to try that, do your research throughly before you jump in. Take notes etc. If there are any local soapers in your area, talk to them. I don't know if there are still soaper forums on line, but if there are, there is bound to be some folks with some experience and stories of sucess and failures. It might be useful to read up on the history of soap making.
