I read a comment on another video that I wanted to share here; the Mighty Nein asked Caduceus to bring Molly back, and Caduceus didn’t think he was ready to return. It was only once they had finally accepted his death that Caduceus felt it was appropriate to bring him back to them.

I had forgotten about this tarot reading, so thanks for putting all this together - it all comes down to a simple phrase uttered not so long ago by Taliesin : "Laura-fucking-Bailey" Maybe Jester is the god and Artagan is just along for the ride on her coat-tails??!!!

I love when a DM becomes the self fulfilling prophecy. Both Tarot readings between the Tieflings came true, and Matt was the one who made both happen.

The beast shattering a city, that fits with the past of Cognoza. The tyrant and red dragon facing, that is definitely Lucian becoming a tyrant, taking control of Cognoza and manipulating it. And Death, something must end for something new to begin, a beautiful tie to his defeat and something new beginning.

I don't believe in Tarot cards but i do look into them now and then just for the fun of it so i know a little bit about these cards and boy let me tell you, i have had lots of readings that didn't align with anything at all- but this one was spooky good. I will break down what little i do know for those who are curious. In a generalized three card reading the first card often represents your past, the middle card is your present and the last card is supposed to be your future. (the past) The Dream: There is not a card called the dream in a traditional tarot card deck that I am aware of. However, i suspect this card may have been meant to represent the Tower. (i could easily be wrong. might be The World or the fool. This seems to be an Oracle deck with a lot of Tarot similarities- so decide for yourself) If it was the tower, it is a symbol of calamity, upheaval, and personal transformation. One could easily say it represents Lucien's failed attempt to enter the city or the recent death of Molly. But even if it is not the tower, it has other fun connections. We later learn that dreams have quite an important part to play in what Lucien calls "The Pattern" and the corrupting influence of the eyes. The imagery of "a massive creature shatters a city" is quite fitting considering the situation. For one thing, Lucien does go on to shatter the city as a massive creature himself. but again, this is the history card and we know that at the point of the reading, Lucien was hunting down the lost city of Aeor, that was said to have been destroyed by the gods themselves. Fitting considering the card itself is depicting the Calamity. (The present) The Tyrant: There is no Tyrant card per se, but there is a King of Swords and an Emperor card. Since it sounds like Jesters Deck is only made up of Major Arcana at the moment, I think it is a very safe bet to say this is meant to be the Emperor. Both the King of sword and the Emperor represent themes along the lines of structure, power, and authority of a positive light when presented upright. In reverse they mean manipulation, domination and a misuse of power. Considering Jester said the Red dragon was facing Lucien, its safe to say that his present is represented by the negative interpretation. The imagery of two dragons locked in combat, one chromatic and one metallic, is a perfect representation of Molly and Lucien fighting for power inside their own body. (The future) Death: there IS a tarot death card! (and its my favorite) this card can now be taken 100% literally. Jester, who gets the killing blow on Lucien, reads his future and tells him "facing you is death." She is. she is literally facing him for the reading! But she also tells him the correct attributes to the death card. It can mean endings, yes, but it also can mean new beginnings and rebirth. Which is why i find it so. f**cking. perfect that When Lucien is killed, Molly is reborn. Not only that, but he is brought back to life by the Wildmother at the request of a GRAVE cleric, who stepped in to fill the void when Molly left. She was right, it was a rebirth. I may not believe in cards, but i certainly do love when random chances manage to align themselves so perfectly as to create a beautiful story experience. I cant wait for this to be animated.

That last one! Btw! Required a successful divine intervention for "The Rebirth" to happen! When you play with powers of the Astral realm you will sometimes accidentally lock a fixed point of your destiny, no matter how miniscule it is

“Can you roll a d6 for me?” “1” “Facing you is death.” Episode 140: In the final moments of the ritual to decide whether Molly comes back: Matt rolls a natural 1 on camera. That’s the funny thing about prophecies. Lucien literally did die, Molly going with him, with a natural one sealing his fate. But that didn’t mean Molly stayed dead now did it? Also it is fucking awesome that Jester is the one who killed Lucien after literally telling him death is in his future.

I mean the "death is facing you" part is cool. But the "red dragon" is such a reach xD. You could connect someone to anything at that point. And for the massive creature, Matt usually goes for Big Boss Monsters as final villains. The reading itself was way, at least for me, way crazier, I mean he was born from dream he is (at the time) a Tyrant and then he actually got reborn, died, and got reborn as Molly AGAIN. Like WHAT ?

Further proof that Matt made some kind of blood pact with the god of either Luck or the Theater when CR started. NOTHING else could explain how so many crucial, narrative rolls happen the way they do.

It has been a long time since I was able to catch an episode when it streamed. I am so glad I caught this one. Very well done with your work on this.

Past: History and the dream (Lucien lay dreaming while molly was awake) - Present: The Tyrant --two dragons battling-- (Lucien aka the Tyrant now in control, his and molly's wills clashing in the final battle) - Future: Facing you is Death (Jester facing Lucien) -- To some death can mean a rebirth (Rebirth of Molly). Overall I LOVE THIS

This WHOLE CAMPAIGN HAS BEEN REVOLVING AROUND THE WRODS EYE OR NINE I AM GOING INSANE

The line about dragons fighting one another hits even harder after reading The Nein Eyes of Lucien, Molly was inside his head the whole time

Guys, really, all talking about the "facing death" thing, but... 0:24 !!!!! "A MASSIVE CREATURE SHATTERS A CITY!!!!!!!" THIS!!!!! Jester taking the kill was "lucky", the resurrection one also, this is impressive, but we are not talking about the MASSIVE work of Matt REMEMBERING - FOR SURE - THE FIRST CARD!

I really like the jokes, slip ups and coincidences that later become very important and central to the characters/plot. So often there are lighthearted moments and accidents that have intensely profound impacts later in the story. It's the epitome of group woven storytelling, mixed with the possibility of chance. Jester winging it with Molly's Tarot cards for fun, making up her own, putting some spice into how it's done, making goofy and sometimes baseless predictions. Then later she predicts Lucien's defeat at her hands by drawing the Death card. "Facing you is death." Jester being the one who did the final blow to Lucien in the final battle. And predicting Molly's subsequent (extremely lucky) resurrection by pulling the Rebirth card: "Something must end for something new to begin." I get chills just thinking about it. All of the players are really good at jumping between gaffs and doing a complete 180 to pulling out your heartstrings. It's moments like that where I see they all intensely love being actors and storytellers. Also Sam. Sam has made me cry more than anyone else. Curse that man.

Just would like to know what all the cards in Molly's deck are and what they represent. The basics of stuff like this is to be broadly applicable to most situations, and to be presented in such a fashion that they speak directly to the person having their fortune read. In that specific moment it was a pretty crazy draw. but I'd be willing to bet that any combination of cards would have had 'parallels' to Lucien's overall fate and story. I love the way this all turned out tho.

I think Matt set a lot of things up to reflect the Tarot Card readings for both Jester and Lucien. Like the giant beast tearing through the city, and the clue to the Gentleman’s identity being closer than Jester thought. But there’s no way he could have made all of that happen.

I mean... how? Just the sheer probability of ALL of this lining up is so drastically small without it being scripted (I don't believe it is scripted). The tarot cards falling in line, the resurrection of Molly, and Cad rolling a fucking TWO PERCENT... It just blows my mind wrapping my head around it. Along with all of the nat 20's in session 140, it was a crazy final (?) boss fight. I'm assuming this is the final boss, right? They recently announced that the finale of Campaign 2 was 7 hours long but I don't know if that meant for the next episode being the finale or a few before the 7 hour finale.
