MAJOR THRIFT FLIP | Old clothes to Lolita Dress

Hello! I am back!
Here's my creation process on a major thrift flip I did on a three pieces of old clothing that I turned into a fancy lolita dress. This is my entry for a contest on a local sewing group and I tried my best to work within the limitations / guidelines of not using any new material except for the fasteners like garters and zippers. I've been upcycling since I was 14 but I can say that this is the best of my upcycled works so far.
This is my first DIY video and first time that I did a voice over for a video so pardon if it's not the best. I am learning! :)
You can support me in making more content by sending me a ko-fi

I love how this entire dress turned out! I can never hope to have as much talent and skill in dressmaking, but I'm so happy to seeing how much creativity and care you put into making lolita clothing. I'd love to see more videos like this!

So I know this is an old video, and you probably won't see this comment, but I have to tell u how much I appreciate u showing multiple ways of measuring and cutting fabric and patterns. Like so many people, I live paycheck to paycheck and can't afford to get a measuring mat or rotary cutter, so I really appreciate u showing how to do those things without them lol
@justinechantelle
@justinechantelle 9 месяцев назад
I'm here! 😊 Aww I'm pleased to hear that. I've also tried using a rotary cutter for small projects but I find it can only do so much versus a scissor. I think rotary cutters are best for projects where you make multiples of the pattern / mass producing.
@nekoabernathy9831
@nekoabernathy9831 9 месяцев назад
@justinechantelle yes I agree! Plus, if u use a rotary cutter, u need to also get a board and a long ruler to help keep things straight, which can cost a bit more not everyone can afford those things and a good pair of fabric scissors can take you pretty far 😁

I hope I can study dressmaking / fashion design in the future. Love how the dress turned out. As I watched your tutorial, narealize ko na kulang pala stitch na ginawa ko for manual gathering. Also if only I added the seam allowance on my patterns I could have saved a lot of time. Thank you for this. Hope to see more tutorials from you.
@justinechantelle

Doing double stitch will make it sturdier. Pag isa lang kasi prone na maputol. And kusa na din magfflat yung gather no need to iron 😊 I'm glad to know I was able to share some knowledge. Thank you for watching po 😊

Wow! Thank you for showing how you piece together pattern pieces to make use of unusual sizes of fabric. I have seen it used historically to maximize expensive fabric, but didn't know how I could use it in my own sewing. I don't think I am ready to make something as elaborate as your dress, but I will keep practicing my sewing skills. I have made a few skirts, but haven't tried a bodice yet. With your inspiration, I think I am going to give it a try.

I'm just blown away by the creativity and hardwork displayed here to create something so beautiful out of regular material. I've been trying to find some lolita up-cycyling/refurbishing videos because I have some thrift dresses with beautiful fabrics that have an ugly design, or have permanent stains somewhere on them. Ty for the inspiration. I hope I can find a way to re use the dresses and make something perfect ^.^

Yes more videos, I wish I discovered your talent earlier cause it's a real blessing just to watch. The kind of video shinning happiness, and revaluing the "being a girl" experience. Higher achievement even than feminism when used in the right way as you do : freedom to enjoy your _self_ the way you like, freedom of simply being yourself, and in that way, shinning brightly to all those who can understand your way, or "feel with you" by empathy and with whom you just share freely the inside joy. _I said "even better than feminism" as it doesn't target to merely reach equality with men, but rather show it's already a thousand time better ; but I'm not denying hereby the inequity for women in life, concerning law and law enforcement (how justice deals with girl's cases comparatively, same with police) concerning wages (much lesser paid forsame skills same work same efficiency), concerning security (more often victim) and much more. That's an important fight too of course._ So Justine, you're beaming with happiness and true authentic personality, no one can develop such skills like you did, without the flame of passion lit and burning. So you behave calmly and discreetly on first sight, but if one knows human mind, one knows you have that inside strength, and that special unique flame. So Justine, I wish you inspire more girls all over the world to do the same, to develop freely and without obstacles their own true personality, this doesn't mean to copying yourself in your own ways, as it doesn't work, but to copy your ability to stick to your own true self, and share it as it is all around as it's worth contemplating. Oh yes and please Justine, do not ever ever let any one make you doubt about the importance of what you do. Many may argue it's superficial, and yes it is boys and girls. and that's why it's so important and so deep. Each time you inspire this flame to burn in other hearts, by your mere happy sharing, you transmute each time further, this world we live in, from an infinite cold desolate prison of sadness, into a colorful happy joyful warming paradise. Those who don't understand and choose for themselves to live in the prison, we're OK with them. Their choice. But when they try to make fun of those who embellish the world, then they shouldn't be given any credit at all. Let them enjoy and drink their own poisonous words without minding and keep making the world a better happier place without noticing them. So this dress expresses a lot and seeing you in the process of fabrication gives even more. Thank you, and do more of course, one should always do more of what one likes and enjoys sharing and that makes the world a happier place. No need to ask us, just go like crazy, and those who appreciate your work and are able to understand it's value, will come sooner or later, they will. Your very inspiration, will always match one day or the other, some people's sensibility and needs. And yes, we, and the world, all need more Sweet Lolita Dresses, need to awaken that part of us that is sick of waiting it's turn to be appreciated for it's right value, while war that basically is a shame ruining our planet; seems to be always. Yes, it's time Venus takes the power, and re-establish some more accurate values of things for our era, the gratitude to love and beauty, the sweetness of our hearts. They are not mere words, they are our overall basic experience in life if we dedicate our actions to them.
