Exactly! 'Crippled the midwest'! 'Shocking' storm! 'Graphic' warning! I live in the midwest, and although it was a big storm, it certainly pales in comparison to other storms of the past. It's routine, the plow trucks come out, you shovel and snowblow your property, etc. We are used to it, no matter the severity.

No kidding! SHOCKING! CRIPPLED! I live in the southeast part of the state and we received maybe 8 or 9 inches but the wind caused some pretty good drifts across the highway. Certainly mild compared to winters of the past, but not 'crippling' in any way.

I was on the road walking to work since snow drifted over the sidewalks. Only about a 10 minute walk on lightly used side streets. So not too bad. Ironically I did push someone else's car to get it unstuck though.

We don't stop life because of a snow storm. Truckers go out to supply the grocery stores, hardware stores, fuel stations, etc. All the livestock (beef and dairy cattle, swine, goats, etc) have to eat so the feed mills have to operate no matter the temperature and conditions.....truckers have to supply these feed mills with the different ingredients for mixing the rations. Everything continues to keep the country running. Hospitals need resupply, so once again, the truckers are on their way. Also, the manufacturers of those supplies have to stay in operation. There's very few people that actually 'stay home'.

Had great influence of getting the game of chess, in every childern school in Iceland. In my generation, there must be a chess board in every home, here in icealnd, even though it vary, how much they are used. I still have mine, more than 40 years later. Just simple one, and I didi use it, when I was younger, read some book about chess too. Haven´t used it for more than 20 years.

@@trm4life In 1982 I was working on a farm, and on Christmas day it was 55 degrees. Later on that same winter it was brutally cold with a lot of snow. That's the way the weather has always been.
