Absolutely love how you're so aware of explaining the easiest/nicest/ best way to end this! Thanks for all of your efforts, they don't go unnoticed, I'm sure many of your loyal viewers are just as appreciative! This pattern can also be done using the "Kumihimo" disc that my kids use for their plastic bracelets (a.k.a. Boondoggle, Gimp, or Plastic Craft Lace). Although my preference is not to use them, it's a great way for kids to be able to do this pattern without getting frustrated or confused.

If you had started with the other fastener end, the "female" end, it would have been easier to hot glue, as the glue would have been all on the portion of the connector that was "inside", instead of having to push the glue in and clean the connector off. Just my 2 cents....

Great video! Following your instructions, I made my 1st one in about 40 minutes...2nd in about 25 minutes. Looking forward to the other 10 I have to make. Modified your solution for finishing a bit. Once the 2 yellow ends were through the female portion of the breakaway connector, I snipped them as close a possible on the inside, heated the head of a 1-1/2" galvanized roofing nail with a plumber's torch and shoved it into the barrel like a potato masher - melted a nice stopper on the inside. A little bit of cleanup around the rim was required, but otherwise works well for me. Thanks again.

What I found best to finishing this was by the same way as u did but what I did instead of hot glue, I cut the end flush to the barrel end n use a rounded end on my wood burner and I melted the paracord down and with it still hot I pushed the rest down with needle nose plyers. Worked wonderfully. I also find it easier to use the wood burner to cut and burn the ends flat using a spade tip. Makes it nice for a sure bond

Hi Shawn. I love all of your tutorials and have made many successful bracelets. Sometimes I might have to watch a video SEVERAL times, start and stop it to get the pattern right. But with much patience I can usually achieve my goal. This one though has really been working on those patience. Has anyone ever asked you to do weave the necklace upside down? I'm not sure that it would help but I thought I'd ask anyway.

When I saw this video tutorial, I said "I did it when I was young". I used pieces of papers @ that time. I used two beautiful cords to C how it worked. I didn't use the breakaway connectors. I modified it little bit. I used the 24K-gold hook (I am a goldsmith myself). It's beautiful!

I found that after you thread the last buckle and cut the ends as short as possible, heat a bolt with lighter and pack it down in the buckle some, then a soldering iron to melt the ends good and pack it down with bolt works well.

I bought some of these clasps. The directions say to put cord(s) into smaller end and tie. Pull the cord back into the larger end (the ends that connect to each other are the larger ones). The knot stops the cord from coming out. Easy!

I like how clean you were able to finish this. I've tried to think of a way to finish a 4 strand like this before but couldn't ever think of a good way to do it. I might try the super glue. Do you think it would pull through just fused like you ended up doing without glue?
@BoredParacord
@BoredParacord 9 лет назад
If you use the super glue, I found it best to cut the ends off flush with the buckle, then put them down into the buckle with a pen or something small, then drop a few drops into the "ball" of cord. When it dries, it will not pull through.
@bp_wolf5293
@bp_wolf5293 8 лет назад
+BoredParacord i found a way were you dont need super glue at all
@jiberias
@jiberias 8 лет назад
I use super glue anytime I don't want my paracord to separate. If you need to pull in any way on your cord, use the glue. I don't mess around with hit or miss melting anymore. If you use too much glue it will harden the cord surface. Super glue works every time.

I think a much better way to finish this would be to gut all 4 paracord strands when you reach the end of your braid and pull the 4 gutted strands through the other end of the barrel clasp and singe all 4 strands together and push it down the hole and if you need to use hot glue just a small amount would be perfect to keep anything from falling out even tho the 4 strands melted together should be strong enough. Also tying the 4 strand round braid JD's way isn't really easier and you can see by your final product its uneven, if you do it the original way you'll get a much better result. I don't make paracord video's any more but there is a video on my channel if you wish to check it out that way.

Here i what I did The last 2 strands you use, gut them, tie them in a simple tight overhand knot and them torch them till they start to melt together. use fingers or pliers and make a round point to them and pull down hard so it goes inside the cap. It wont come out. option 2 is to do the above, but then let them really melt and get drippy, then pull them inside still melting and let it harden inside

What if you used a fid to splice multiple pieces of the cord inside one piece at the end, then force it through the buckle? It would have to be gutted. Then you wouldn't see any connections.

I just made the necklace..really cool! One question though, would it work if I gutted the cord completely or use smaller cord? Reason I ask is because this one is a bit rough on my neck :)
@ingoddafeario2757
@ingoddafeario2757 9 лет назад
it seems like the easiest way to finish the ends would be to glue the male end (being that it will fit inside the female end) and melt the ends together on the female side so that you will be able to pull them further inside and not obstruct the male connector from snapping in. think about that and you'll see what im talking about.

I see someone mentioned super glue. I was thinking epoxy. I use "just a drop or three of epoxy" for EVERYTHING! Ask my wife! Seriously though, if it's like a bb sized drop of well-mixed epoxy, it won't crack and crumble like super glue. I recently used super glue to reinforce the tip of a woven nylon machete sheath I made. As I patiently and with mild, while at the same time useless regret, waited for the super glue to crumble away, I decided on a better alternative. I dipped the tip in Shoe Goo. The great thing about that stuff is you paint it while it's wet, effectively sealing the paint immediately. I don't know if the same is true for epoxy. Maybe Shoe Goo would be better, although it's harder to work with. Say you had a spot that needed a drop or three of epoxy. Nix the hardening two parter and dab it with a little Shoe Goo (stuff is cheap and I can't believe it but you can get it at your local big chain hardware store; it's weird to me because I discovered it when I was a kid skateboarding and destroying shoes. You couldn't find it anywhere but skate shops). Paint it to match with maybe some modeling paint or nail polish and bam, hidden Shoe Gooed glue knot end.

I really like this idea for a necklace. I would like to make one for my husband but he would tear up the plastic break away clasp. Simply make an appropriately sized overhand loop (for your knot at the end) and run the second color through it, to form the beginning of the braid (crossing the second color first, then the loop color, and go from there).

i agree. i remember working with that flat plastic strand stuff used in crafts when i was in highschool. what we did was just fold the stuff over in a clockwise pattern. funny thing being it really didnt matter how many strands there were to be honest. i mean, the more there were the harder it was to tighten up for sure... but completely workable still. the whole time watching this i was thinking about folding the strands the same way and it would be a lot easier.
