Big fan of your work but one question...how can you prove that this is not a reproduction of that reproduction or that this is your ideea and not of that person?
I just watched a video of this type of contraption that was done a few years back. Let's be clear, not making a jointer, it's a called a planer, and your making a planer table, not a jointer!
I'm not in the habit of giving compliments to other tradesmen, but I've got to make an acceptation of you. I've been a carpenter all my life. 4 th generation and I'm 60. A lifetime of woodworking, building tools because sometime I couldn't afford to go out and buy one, or they didn't make what I needed. You Sir have blown my mind at your genius, creative, mind blowing expert craftsmanship. Good for you Sir.
7/31/2020 USA Grandpa Bill: I'm watching two of the world's most sensitively artistic hands describe in wood the creations of fine intelligence. The precision of movement, the carefully thought out demonstrations to the viewer in meditative silence speak of a soul melded to his craft who is emotionally considerate of his audience, a teacher with much wisdom for someone so apparently young. It is a pleasure to watch you work. I am grateful you are on RU-vid and sharing with the world your gifts.
This guy is 100% amazing. The level of detail and craftsmanship is unmatched on youtube. Very impressive sir, thank you for the clean, precise, and well executed video content.
After discovering you absolutely fantastic channel I thought I've seen every woodworking hack there is? Being a man of 75 I am realising your can teach an old dog new tricks. 😮😮❤
Very impressive design. So, I got the plan downloaded and made one for myself. It works well. I made two alterations. Instead of the epoxy compound that you used to support the planer, I used cup shaped struts fixed to the piece (where you used two wood screws to anchor the epoxy.) The struts were made easily by cutting a hole on a square piece of plywood and dividing it in the middle. Similarly, at the front, I used two obtuse angled triangles. I encountered another problem. The front of the plane tended to tilt down. So I used another strut piece which was left unglued, because it caused difficulty to turn knob for plane blade adjustment
Well... I couldn't be more impressed... This benchtop jointer from a hand planer is just another in a series of home-built machines... The drill press in wood, with a vise in wood, and a belt sander in wood... The craftsmanship is just incredible... I'm subscribed...
it is a power demonstration in all gentle trains. use a lot of different material and in the end like a large orchestra, presenting a world-shattering piece of music. it is remarkable how closely you look at these tools, and if I may say so, you wake up tired looking woodworking machine to live. really amazing
I just recently started watching your videos. You are truly a master of your craft. The ability to build tools to build projects is so impressive. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Another "woodworking art form" video! The hand motions tell the tale: gentle, accurate, unhurried, respectful, efficient. Japanese culture recognizes and respects these things. We Americans basically don't get it. This is not to idolize one set of cultural values over another (each has its use); but, it is amazing to see these behaviors reflected in woodworking videos. Also, these videos show tools made with relatively simple hand tools, in a highly efficient shop, in a small (and very clean) space. Very, very refreshing (and instructive).
Modern woodpeckers are all about the electrical tools but you Mister (take my hat to you a thousand times) you a Complete Craftsmen- tool maker with skill and precision. For me, you are at the top of the pile of you tubers, you are the best of the very best. Most of them *woodpeckers + are just marketing salesmen of you tube - well you know what I mean! Blessings from Downunder.
You're definitely a Master Woodworker with Master Patience. I was even more impressed with your other shop tools and especially the flapping machine. I will be back to check out the speakers, etc.. Thanks for posting.
Very nice build, I especially like the swing guard you made for it, not seen on many of the other hand planner/ jointer builds. Love the tall folding fence and the fact that it can be used vertically or horizontally! 😎
Sir, it's simple, which is why it's accurate, but let there be no mistake, not simple to build. This does show, even in your other tools, how versatile 3/4" Baltic birch plywood can be.
Just adding to Don's comments. The positive is that 95% plus think that your work is pretty cool. Well done and very nice work by the way. It just shows that creative types like you don't always have to spend the big bucks on machinery to achieve great outcomes.
So, so impressed by the way you have build this with finesse and like a artist working on some very delicate project . Love it and love your patience and talent . Thank you .😊👌
He is an example of high functioning fabricator tradesman . He is not just patient and precise he is clean which is often overlooked when learning to be as good . He reminds me of the ancient Japanese woodworkers with his tempo
Thanks for showing this creation. What I like most about your version, is the plane remains itself, no removal of any parts of it, so it is easily removed and portable....B R I L L I A N T !!!!!
The epoxy putty is a great idea. The pads at rear of the planer are relying on the putty adhering to the wood. A stronger fix would have wood reinforcement over the soft putty. But that could be added.
Awesome design and inspiring! You sir are a genius and an amazing Master Craftsman!!! Bless you for sharing and inspiring!!! I am happy to found your channel and will share it.
A great video, I have watched your work with admiration, I am now very motivated to make such a fantastic planing table myself! Thank you very much. Greetings from Gerry - Amsterdam the Netherlands
Abraço aqui do Brasil 🇧🇷
Well, I have to start joining wood together for a Baroque musical instrument - like a cello, and now I see such a good way! I WILL be making this. Although I must say I find the angle supports table system a little problematic, but I am sure it is excellent.
As a fellow woodworker, I have watched your builds with great interest and I must say that I am somewhat in awe of your ability to create good tools out of simple materials. I have manufacturer's versions of these tools in my shop but I can honestly say that I don't believe they are any better and in some ways not as good as what you have made. You, sir, are a genius and I salute you!
I’ve made this before I got my jointer and the better way to mount the hand held jointer is to remove the aluminum base on the back and screw the jointer to it . That also saves you from having to find weird ways to secure it
Love the effort and idea that was put in this project. But if you making stuff for a living from this craft, not from youtube videos, then I think it's better to buy it than invest time and effort to make something like this.
Pretty neat!! Not sure how well it will hold up with just glue and you probably could buy a small planer for about what you have in that one especially considering the time it took but of course you wouldn't have the satisfaction of actually building it yourself.
I can't get enough of your channel. Just in awe. Congrats. If you have a moment, could you tell me what kind of product the putty is at the 5:02 mark? looks like a 2 part squishy epoxy kind of thing. thanks again for the great content!
Ok, my homemade jointer needs a re make!!!! That is really well designed. Could you make some push blocks/sticks to go with it, please? There are a couple of times, in that video, where a small slip would have meant less fingers! Keep up the good work 👍👍👍👍👍
Hello .. You are a creative carpenter and artist, but !! The clip is long, and if it was a little faster, it would be more beautiful and beautiful, so the viewer may not need some details that prolong the clip without interest and be boring for the viewers! Thank you, you are creative
