I love your videos but as I was watching this one for probably the 50th time or so I noticed a brown/green block in the sample quilt over jenny's left shoulder (on the right of the screen) that is put together "wrong." It might be interesting to try and make a 4th hourglass quilt using this happy accident. lol.

Jenny, this may be a dumb question; how do you know the wrong side of a solid fabric?

Brittany, that is a very good question, I think. Sometimes it's hard to determine which is the right side.

This was indeed a "really fun project to do" I had so much fun pulling from my stash to cut my own "layer cake" for this one as I wanted it to be a scrappy reminder of my fabric stash. It went together fabulous and looks more complicated than it is. Of course with Jenny's tutorials nothing is ever hard! Thanks again MSQC for adding to my "finished quilt" collection!

Hi Jenny, I love you and I have made so many quilts from your tutorials. However, I have to point out that some of your blocks are off in the example quilt. How do I know??? From ripping out the same issues while I am making a version of this one. In the diamonds, white or the dark ones, occasionally you will see small triangles encroaching on them. The block containing those smaller triangles is off. I am making this quilt for my cousin's sons wedding. I have 4 different deep blues and 4 grey prints, all have an ocean or nautical theme. They live in San Diego. I made it with a finished block size of 17" so that with 6 x 5 blocks and a 5" piano key border at top and bottom, it will be king sized. Thanks for another gorgeous quilt!
@janpos9435
@janpos9435 8 лет назад
+Bonnie Smithson I'm glad you said something about that. I kept looking at the quilt and getting distracted by those encroaching triangles. I kept thinking is it me? Trying to figure out what was going on really made my brain hurt. LOL
@Danielle33384
@Danielle33384 8 лет назад
I was just curious...I do see the triangles that are disturbing the shape of some diamonds. I am wondering how you fixed that issue...was it due to sewing the block together wrong like a misplacement?
@carolynendsley6528

I also love all the disappearing blocks. It is so much fun to see the transformation when cutting a simple four patch, pinwheel, etc and sewing them back together. I am amazed at the variety you get when turning pieces in different ways. The last quilt I completed was the Disappearing hour glass. I donated this quilt to Love Inc (non-profit) Quilt Auction in my community. As a result, I think you may have many more followers : )

well I did exactly what she said to be careful about, that 1/2" on the ruler so I have 25 blocks already done and they look just like Jenny's but the cut is off, I think it will be o.k. as I cut all of them the same and will finish the last 15 blocks the same way, Please let me know if this quilt will be o.k.??? All the quilts I have made so far are from your tutorials and all have turned out this is the first one I did that booboo on not sure what I was thinking I have been using a 2 1/2" ruler I guess when she said 1/8th " I was doing an 1/8th of an inch I quess in the end it will be fine I will do an update when all finished

Hi Jenny!. my wife got me hooked on quilting... grrr lol. I must admit it is a frustratingly fantastic hobby. our problem is finding fabric we like. We long for a fabric place that carries a large selection of fabrics, by the yard, as well as square packets and jelly rolls. Houston is large yes, but driving all over the city in search of fabric is the frustrating aspect. any suggestions on good sources for great affordable fabric?

Love this and love you! You are so inspiring and your videos make me want to jump up and run to my sewing room! Two requests: 1) Please go back to using a dark color mat for your video demos for better contrast; and 2) Would you consider giving the yardage for your projects as well as the precut requirements? I just received my first issue of BLOCK and am disappointed that the yardage isn't included in those instructions, too. (I know I could figure it out but it would be so much easier if it was in the recipe!) Thanks again for showing us a great pattern!

@susanottwell746
@susanottwell746 4 года назад
Any size blocks will work. Just have the same number of squares of the main fabric and of the background fabric. You can actually work with any half-square triangle method you prefer, this method is just convenient to the pre-cut 10" squares. I've also used two layer cakes that had a good distribution of lights and darks.

I noticed that the displayed quilt has some of the blocks that are different. Is that a mistake or did I miss something. Some of the white squares have little triangles pointing into them and vice versa on the dark blocks. We all make mistakes so I'm not criticizing but I'm not an expert and so I need a little more help than most.
@heatherhamby8880
@heatherhamby8880 7 лет назад
It does look like the displayed quilt has some blocks oriented differently around the outer edges than the way she shows in the tutorial. I am assuming they just played with the layout and made it a little more "interesting," but if you follow the tutorial and lay out all your blocks the same, the whole thing should look just like the middle section of the displayed quilt. Good luck!

You can do anything on a desktop machine that you can do on a longarm. The only reason I got a small longarm a few years ago is that my hands started to ache too much during the winters when moving the fabric under the needle.

This is a fantastic pattern and so much fun! (Do I have to tell people I didn’t cut and handle all those little pieces?) I do prefer the eight-at-a-time method of making half square triangles though because, unlike four at a time, it results in outside edges on the straight of grain.

The block at 6:52 will make a great quilt, connecting the blocks on point. You are my inspiration, MSC.

That's so funny! I was wondering during "Disappearing Hourglass" what would happen if you didn't turn the points to make a star..and now I know! Thank you.

Jenny I loved this, I'm going to do it in solid and one patterned fabric, which after seeing your qui,t in solids only (which loves great). I'm hoping that mine will look good too. Thank you so much for all your tutorials.

A woman posted her quilt that she made on FB. I made sure to scroll through all the comments in hopes someone asked the name of the block. Well she mentioned it was a MSQ and I immediately looked for the tutorial. The nicest block thus far I have laid my eyes on! Oh and Jenny you are cool.
