Nice build! I really love the 45 degree mitre sledge. My table saw blade travels when I tilt it, so I might be able to use my current sledge but I am a bit nervous to take the plunge!
@GetHandsDirty
@GetHandsDirty 9 лет назад
What you mean it travels? Maybe you can slide the sled forward with the saw powered with the blade up and tilted instead of raising it while running. Probably less scary. Or clamp the sled to the table top and then rise the blade while running. Don't know if I am making any sense to your problem.

if you need an affordable light box for film, color slides etc. but don't want to build anything, do as i did...use a troffer light, which is commonly used in ceiling grids, you've seen zillions of them in offices, most common size is 24"x48", also 24"x24" they can be found cheap on craigslist or anywhere really, mine has led tubes while others use fluorescent..both work excellent with a frosted lens and either acrylic or glass as the work surface..google around and check it out

Joël van Dam I don't fold it very often, so I cannot really give an opinion on that, but it seems sturdy. The fence is great. Very reliable, and comes from factory perfectly calibrated. When clamped, doesn't move at all, I'm really happy with it and you can rip boards until 64 cm wide.

Hi there! Thank you for this awesome video. I had a question for you. I have made a similar lightbox for myself in the past but got a dark halo in the middle of the square. How do you get the light to be completely even all the way across? I ended up using strips of leds on the back (instead of side) panel. But then the light comes out striped. Please advise! thanx :)
@GetHandsDirty
@GetHandsDirty 9 лет назад
+Yaminay Nasir Chaudhri Hi Yaminay, well it depends on the lightning power of the LED strip and the size of your light box. This method I'm using works fine for lightboxes that aren't too big, although in this one you can still see a liiiittle bit of a darker center but nothing that would affect photography work or drawing. To your problem: The more distance you have from the LEDs on the backer board to the white surface, the better. And the closer the strips are sticked together the better. Probably what will work better in this case is to add much more strips...stick them about 1 cm apart and you probably will end up with a really even light effect. But again, if the box is too shallow I guess you will need to cover the entire backer board... You can then use an LED dimmer to lower the light intensity because it will probably get really intense.

Thanks for the recommendations I will try this out :)

Ron Naida let's try it again idiot! What if we are poor and can't afford buying all those machines? Seems you didn't understand the question in your little mind
@GetHandsDirty
@GetHandsDirty 7 лет назад
Please don't bring any violence to the comments section :) Well, I was and still am poor and didn't get all the tools you see at once. I've been buying stuff over almost 6 years now and of course that when you really want something you need to make sacrifices and invest in that thing. You can't expect machines flying from a tree so you focus on what do you want to build and then search for ways to get it with what you have. Also you can do an easier design in this case and many steps here can be made with other tools, you just need to be creative and think for a bit ;) And the tools I own are not expensive anyway. They are not top quality ones or anything. Follow your passion, save for it and invest on it. I don't own a tv or a big apartment, for example and I choose to spend my money on these tools and materials because this is what moves me and makes me happy right now. And by being active in making, new opportunities arise and more possibilities come to life. You cannot make omelettes without eggs. You cannot expect to build stuff out of wood without having at least a handsaw to cut it.

Hi Dirty hands. That is a very nice light box! I built one very similar for my daughter (she is an artist). I don’t think mine was as exact as yours but it turned out pretty good. I added a nice antique caring handle. Someone asked in the comments about all of your machines and the money involved and you answered perfectly. “Follow your passion, save for it and invest in it.” I have a family of 4 but I have always wanted to build things, so I looked for used tools wherever I could find them. It took me several years to find the starter tools which I used to build more tools benches and work tables to convert my hand tools to table tools. I really enjoy watching your videos and I learn from them. Thank you for that!

Hello! I noticed that your light box is rather high (in my opinion). Does the height matter? Is it comfortable for you? I want to make a light box, but I prefer flat box like a tablet (3 or 4 sm high). That's why I' asking. However, I'm very impressed with your carpenter skills. Amazing work!
@GetHandsDirty
@GetHandsDirty 8 лет назад
Hi! When using this method of sticking the lights in the border, the closer they get to the face board, the darker the center will be because the light don't have much space to spread around. On the other day I was thinking about another solution to make a light box that is really really shallow but I haven't tested it yet. I will probably make a video on that soon though ;) Of course you can always use tons of strips and stick them to the backer board so they are facing the white board...but you need to apply them very very close, otherwise you will end up with with a striped looking box. Give it a try! You can always unstick it and rearrange stuff. And you don't really need such a nicely done box. You can use thick cardboard or wood with butt joints and a few screws. It's up to you. Make it with what you have and how you want and allow it to be "yours" :)
@lidyklimova9596
@lidyklimova9596 8 лет назад
Thank you for explanation! It became much clearer. I suppose that I should get a piece of acrylic glass and than try different combinations of LED strips and height of my box :)
@cervit7724
@cervit7724 8 лет назад
You can line the bottom of the box with any type of reflective surface then there will be less of a darkspot in the middle as you make it more shallow
@PermireFabrica
@PermireFabrica 8 лет назад

@lidyklimova9596 8 лет назад
Do you mean LCD monitor? I've thought about it, but I need a rather large light box. Now my husband and I build our box. It's 60*50*4 sm (shallow as I wanted). We use white acrylic glass (LT 30%) and LED strips as a light source. Our know-how: strips are divided into three sections, so I can turn them on separately.
