This is exactly what I needed to see, I have the idea and just needed to know how to go about doing it. Thank you

You’re welcome! I would recommend sealing the edge of thr wood going against the concrete first.

Inside corner welding: Downhill all the way, light up on the flat surface you can grind, prettiest welds of all are inside corners once you get your gun angle right. Should be pointing into the weld, splitting the angle of the joint, pointed down at about 30 degrees

Good tips, thanks! I normally do pretty well with them but didn't want to risk it since I'm out of practice and it was a client job... but in hindsight I could've warmed up on the joints that'd be hidden. Either way, next time I do them I'll definitely be sure I'm approaching it the way you way you mentioned 👍🏼

thanks for the threaded insert tips! i've had bad experiences with them stripping out/splitting, but with your much more finessed approach I'm ready to give 'em another go :)

Great video! (1) What did you end up doing for the transition? (2) Have you ever tried using foam to cut down on the weight?
@YouCanMakeThisToo
@YouCanMakeThisToo 2 года назад
Talked to the client and they liked the rough look so I just left it. I thought about using foam but decided against it.

Fantastic work sir! How are you liking that dust collector? I’m thinking about the same portable unit from Rockler.
@YouCanMakeThisToo

It worked pretty well. I have a ClearVue cyclone but got the Rockler to use until I got the CV set up.

Was really looking forward to seeing a few of those welds, buddy. But I was let down. Hahaha! Great to see a build vid. Glad you're getting everything set up again. By the way, the table is gorgeous.

@erwin6395

Yes, love the contrast between the concrete and the walnut. How did you make the transition between the wood and stone in the end? Just smooth the edges down and leave the natural gap? Thx from France!
@YouCanMakeThisToo
@YouCanMakeThisToo 3 года назад
I sanded it down a bit but ultimately left the gap. I was debating filling it with black caulk (would have some flexibility and wouldn't crack as well) but the client opted for keeping it a little more industrial. Thanks for watching!

I just saw this video and was about to ask the same question as Erwin. Do you have a video of filling in the edge with black caulk or some other material that makes the edge between the two materials seamless and smooth. Love your work by the way, definitely subscribing from Fiji 🇫🇯. Thanks in advance.

what kind of tape did you use on the back of the slab to control the epoxy? also any issues with shrinkage of the concrete and pulling away from the slab?
@YouCanMakeThisToo
@YouCanMakeThisToo 3 года назад
It was just some dolphin seaming tape, just about any tape works. The concrete isn’t attached to the base, just to the slab, so the wood can’t pull away from it. If the wood moves it’ll just drag the concrete the 1/32” with it.
