Probably a teenager!!! Bwahahaha! Fantabulous video! I'm a newbie/elderly quilter and have learned soooooo much. How to quilt has been on my bucket list forever, and after retirement, I took a local class. I just LOVE it!! So far, I've only made about a dozen or so small quilts, and watching your videos has given me so much encouragement to 'branch' out away from the 'usual' squares. I can't thank you enough.

I made this pattern for the very first quilt I’ve ever sewn. In fact, I haven’t sewn in almost 40 years. I made mine in solid black and a white fabric with black flower patterns. I just got this one done tonight. My second quilt is sandwiched and ready for quilting. The second one is the new 5 Star quilt. I did this one in purples and grays. I plan to give this one as a gift so I really want to really work on my free motion technique before I finish this one.

This is WHY I love Jenny so much....she isn't afraid to tell you to do something "different" NOR is she afraid to say things such as "Must be a teenager!" I must admit I wasn't prepared for the way she did this block. I didn't have a clue as to how it was going to be made, but it was DIFFERENT than I would have thought Jenny would show us how the block was made!!! The thing that got me is this is the FIRST time since I have been watching Jenny's tutorials for MSQC that I missed a Friday AM preview of the tutorial (and when I say AM.....I normally always get up at 1 AM Eastern Standard Time on Fridays to watch the newest tutorial!! This is the first time I have ever missed watching the video AS SOON as it became available!!! Love the quilt though.....Thank you MSQC for doing ALL you do for us quilters!!!

On September 1st of 2019, I knew zero about quilting. I knew I wanted to make these beautiful blankets, but did not know where to start. Just when I was getting overwhelmed, I came across Mrs. Doan’s videos. I now have completed a cathedral window pillow set, have MASTERED HST’s and am currently working on the butterfly block. Without knowing it, she has taught me everything I know. As my way of showing appreciation I tell everyone I talk to about “where to start” about these videos. I have also started using their online store. Love the choices in fabric. I have so much to learn so I will be spending a lot of time on You Tube. Thank You for your videos.

As you started explaining the layout, I suddenly saw that this would also make a spectacular two-fabric quilt, cutting some lovely print yardage into ten inch squares to start, alternating with ten inch white squares, and then making it as you explained. You always get my creative juices flowing, girlfriend! ;-) Happy New Year to you and all our pals at MSQC!

You can also square up to 13 inches by measuring out 6.5 inches from the center line both ways, left right and top bottom. I find that much easier. The 6.5 is just half of 13.

I fell in love with a beautiful poppy layer cake in reds, blacks and grey, and have been wondering how to incorporate it into a quilt so the poppies and butterflies are visible. While binge-watching Jenny's tutorials I saw this one, and it was just right. However, after making the hourglass blocks, I divided them into 12 sets of three. I then mixed up the fabrics in each of the three blocks the corners, sides and middle have different fabrics. The finished quilt top looks fabulous, and has an oriental look. I am really pleased with it.

A helpful hints...Scraps galore...when cutting...if my scrap is too small to be returning to my stash....right then...I cut. Varring squares (I have baggies for different sizes)...or 2 1\2 in strips... I have a small box of them under my cutting table....and a box for strips smaller than that...from 1 3\4 _ 1 1\4.... Just need to clarify...by guessing on where to trim down to 13" for the original block, how do you ensure that your corners will once again match up when you sew the pieces back together? Is there a way to ensure all 4 corners are trimmed the same? Do you line up the diagonal line, then trim?

Happy Ney Year !!! As usual, this looks great with really very little effort, so I feel bad for saying this, but the directions for making the border are wrong. You need two different units; one where the colour of the HST meets the strip and one where the white of the HST meets the strip, and these two need to be alternated. All the best for 2020; hope you keep doing these for ever, as it really makes my Friday morning.
