If you're looking to cover up the ugly blind rack that's attached to the top of the window, this is the video on how to do it! Ours had some old red paint, a wide gap, and other flaws that we wanted to just cover up with a simple window valance.

This simple decorative window trim is an easy project that anyone can do, as long as you have some type of saw - whether it's an electric one or a hand one - and a Ryobi nail gun or the old fashioned hammer and nails.
It's as easy as cutting two 1" pieces of 1x4 for the spacer that separates the window trim from the wall, and then a long piece of 1x4 the width of your window PLUS 1" on each side extra.
Then just fasten the window trim to the spacers after making sure it's all level, puddy up the holes, and then paint!

Would you call this a *valance* or *window trim* ? I've been getting both and not sure how to best present the video title. Thanks for watching and consider *subscribing* !

I realize I'm 3 years late to the party, but around here it would be called a cornice. Good job! 👍

By filling in the top, as well as the appearance benefit, you would also get the energy saving benefit of interrupting the convection currents over the cold glass surface.

Another possibility- buy a baseboard piece from Home Depot then cut to fit across top of blinds. Paint with color of choice. Purchase super magnets and double stick heavy duty Velcro. Place magnets on back of wooden piece baseboard piece. using the Velcro to secure them. Place another set of magnets on front facing side of blinds (if metal) and distance them to line up with the magnets on back of wood piece. Place your new valence on top of blinds so magnets line up and you’re done. This is only if you want a valence to cover the metal mechanism at the top of the blinds and don’t want the valence to extend beyond your window width.

The best part of the vlog was "don't do that." The installed valance looks nice.

Definitely give it a shot. Buying the wood brand new and a little bit of paint is about $5 a window - so not bad.

You did a great job showing how easy it is and they look great! Very nicely done. How many days did you have to sleep on the couch after pretending to aim the nail gun at your wife? Dont say None, we dont believe you. LOL

Haha there was a lot more of the reaction that I edited out. I ended up sneaking into my side of the bed after she fell asleep 😂

Nice look. I hope u don't have tp change the blinds since you made them permanent and not removable.

I like how is looks but that is permanent. I was hoping you were making it easily removable in case you had to remove the blinds.

Good job, but we can do without the annoying noise in the background that you may call music! Oh and I almost forgot, thanks for showing that everyone does not need to have fancy equipment to do these projects.
@lostaxisgis

The problem with this approach is then you have to rip them outta the wall to change out the blinds…
@maryheiser311
@maryheiser311 6 месяцев назад
If you use the magnet method there is nothing to do but take it down as there are no nails, screws or anything. Number of magnets needed will depend on how wide your window is and how heavy the piece of wood you chose.
