What about lofting with a guide rail? I haven't checked if FreeCAD supports this, but in other cad packages that could help constrain the misbehaving loft.
@JokoEngineeringhelp
@JokoEngineeringhelp 3 года назад
You can, but in FreeCAD that functionality is contained within sweep. One guide rail may be used
@PaulMaceOfficial
@PaulMaceOfficial 3 года назад
@@JokoEngineeringhelp until you can loft with multiple rails FreeCAD cannot be taken seriously in relation to Solidworks. this missing functionality is a serious flaw if you want to produce aircraft, cars, or anything curved

@@PaulMaceOfficial Using two rails can be done in FreeCAD but not with the specific set of tools mentioned in the video. When you surface curved stuff in FreeCAD two rails is an option. Were you unaware of this?
@PaulMaceOfficial
@PaulMaceOfficial 3 года назад
@@JokoEngineeringhelp There is a tricky option in the curves workbench for a two rail sweep but it requires a ruled surface and then a conversion to a nurbs approximation. This is still very limited and messy. Doesn't work well with sketches with multiple edges. Also doesn't sweep to a point object/sketch (so can't make nose cone object). Compare this to the ability in Solidworks to select a given set of profiles (including points) and loft between them along any number of rails and create the surface straight away. Sadly I've not been able to recreate this easy workflow in FreeCAD, but maybe it will be available one day.

can you do the picture trick with real world items, I'm a newbie trying to make add-on's for bin lid hinges and modifying stl's. thanks for the education

I've seen it done with photographs of things before. It's best to use orthographic views if possible but sketch from picture in general won't ever be a perfect method of replicating things.

Can you do an FEM analysis for a Space Frame (simple cart chassis for example) and point out where should we reinforce and how to get the correct triangulation. Thanks.
@JokoEngineeringhelp

I have done something like that on a table granted with lower forces.

@@JokoEngineeringhelp I have seen that video. My problem is that I don't know where to reinforce the frame and how to correctly triangulate it. Thanks.

That's really cool. I remember 3d studio max had some loft tools back in the day. I made roller blades and a penguin!

Rather than 'normal to profile' it need a 'spine'. I don't know if FreeCAD has this yet either. 'Good tutorial anyway !

Instead of making arcs to match the edges of the poligon you can create points (you said is useless) on your existing circle way faster than concert it to construction line and draw arcs!!!!!!

Just saying, what I'm learning is that FreeCAD isn't drafting software, it is parametric modeling software. Which is why simple drawing things are harder, and harder design things are easy. Love it!

LOL I'm currently modeling a SU-57 in freecad :D. Nice tutorial. I've tried to use loft on Tu-160 but with no success. Gaven up. Later on checked your videos played around with curved surface and surface workbench, and decided to model out SU-57. Looks, good. Have few strange artifacts, but i believe I can fix it. Thank you !

Your tutorials are great. Using your guides I was able to create an empty hull for a boat. But now I would like to know how to create the internal stuff like bulkheads, stringers and interior that are dependent on the shape of the hull (and give the hull thickness). And then I would like to know how to mirror most of the stuff for one hull into a second hull to create a Catamaran. This would be awesome to create a model boat :)

@JokoEngineeringhelp 3 года назад
Could you send some images of the finished product to my email? I'm interested to know what kind of shapes you're looking at.

@@JokoEngineeringhelp RazorCats has really good renders of their catamarans where you can see the bulkheads (vertical walls supporting the hull), interior and the hull (www.razorcats.com/#vc_images-carousel-1-1605473732) Stringers are not always used when fiberglass or carbon fiber molded hulls are built. Stringers would be placed horizontal between bulkheads, usually used when building with plywood or metal (live.staticflickr.com/930/28877692867_41bd8df852_b.jpg)

Why do you rotate the camera before adjusting the height of the vertical lines, then snap it back and see that it's still off. Wouldn't it be easier to just drag the linepoint with the camera aligned with the axis plane?
@JokoEngineeringhelp
@JokoEngineeringhelp 3 года назад
If I understand your question it's because sketch elements cannot be moved when viewing perpendicular to the sketch plane.
