Good stuff right there! I used to fly FPV drones and I've thought about doing this for my cars more than once. I'd probably just get a cheap 5 inch LCD panel to mount on my controller or nearby on a tripod. I'd want to record the video more than actually use it while driving. They make the panels with the receiver and recorder built in. Some even have a bay for a receiver module and it just plugs right in like it would into a set of goggles and it records to an SD card the same way also. The panel is a cheaper option than goggles also. Those HDOs you have weren't cheap!
Thanks for watching! It’s unfortunate that the goggles are the most expensive part. You could also buy an Insta360 Go if you just want good on board footage and don’t care about viewing it real time
I'm looking into doing it for a crawler, and you can get a reciever that plugs into your phone and you use an app to use it, then get a controller mounted phone holder, and then do it that way
I believe that your camera placement might be deteriorating the signal, this tiny cameras have a hard time with shadows and so, it's always exposing for the dark interior instead of what you need to see in order to drive
Thanks for the idea! I liked the placement so it looks like you are actually driving, but you can definitely mount it more forward to get the camera in a better angle for driving
Cool video. Thanks. Anyone have a really good recommendation for decent FPV goggles that won’t require a second or third mortgage!?! Please share ASAP.
What’s the range for this system and is it waterproof? I’m very new to this. I want to purchase a traxxas summit and put this FPV system on it. Great video btw
This system definitely isn't waterproof. range is a few hundred feet. you can look for more expensive units that may have further range (stronger mw VTX)
Just subbed, thanks for the video. I am wanting to run something like this on my SCX10iii. However, I do not (right now) want to run FPV, just record from the drivers perspective. Will this system work for that?
hey Scott! Just saw your email and this comment. thanks for reaching out! From what you are saying it sounds like this type of FPV set up might not be the best option for you right now. what it sounds like you want is just to record some footage from inside the car to use in videos and edit with later on. Check you this camera amzn.to/3avXSKR for the price (AND SIZE) this might be exactly what you need. I used it a lot in my Mojave video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-j6IRCV7S7Cc.html) and my 124018 video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aeCE6jTdthE.html). check them out for some example footage. hope this helps!
@@413RC I've looked at that camera. Unfortunately it won't work for me. To get where I want to mount it requires removing half a dozen or so tiny screws to install, turn on re assemble. Then disassemble to turn off and remove. I'm hoping to mount the camera and have the video recorded on a remote SD card or viewer. Kinda hard to explain may have to make a video highlighting it. Thsnks for commenting back.
If you have a decent size yard, this is great fun for low $$$. Where it gets more complicated and expensive is if you want to do this long range. Have you done anything to get more range? Thanks.
Completely agree! I have not done anything long range and haven't really run this set up since I made the video just because its not super practical. You could always invest in a DJI digital unit but you’re looking at $600+
I have u will need to get a vtx thats meant for drones and u need to put a little fan to keep it cool and the last thing is u need an fpv camera to connect to the vtx oh and some long range antenas
Hello, love your video tutorial, + new sub. Also you didn’t put a link for the battery charger usb. Can u maybe put the amazon link for a usb charger that charges my battery for the fpv camera, if you can. Thanks!
The cheaper box style googles should link up to the cheaper VTX without an issue. just make sure you get some 1S lipos that have the same connector or if you know how to solder just solder some to match them up. or you could run it through the power supply of the car
I got a mini z awd and you think I could get a fpv box like that and connect the two fpv box wires to a JST ZH 1.5mm connector and just plug that into the car? The car has one of those connectors available for LEDs
@@413RC Thank you for the link! I was hoping for $30-$40 cheap goggles strictly for the monitor. I'm leaning toward the Spektrum 4.3" monitor. Just wish it wasn't $85.
I have bought the camera and battery you put into the description. As you said you need to charge the battery in order for it to work up the camera. The pugs for the camera and battery that you put in the description do not attach/fit. Please I need help with this, Thanks you!
No, they don’t. I have bought both of them and they don’t match or fit. They don’t like like the ones in the video that you have. I really need help with this, if you can you can recommend me anything else to make a fpv camera. Thank You!
I’m sure there are options. The in car footage you saw was from my Fatshark goggles. You could look for a fpv camera that has a built in SD recorder. Or if you just want a small camera POV for videos and don’t care about driving Fpv you could get the Insta360 go like I used in the beginning of this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-j6IRCV7S7Cc.html
It DEFINITELY got hot really fast. I did not add any heat sinks or fans but it certainly needs it. I did not test longevity unfortunately but it’s something I could revisit
Hey I'm from Western Mass as well! (Small town called Southampton, in the Springfield area) I just Subscribed to you. My RU-vid channel is also mainly about RC cars and FPV Glad I found you!
@@413RC that's what I was hoping to hear. Considering buying a setup like this and building a in door track out of wood. Do you think the signals would be potent enough to prevent major break up? (Track wouldn't be massive but big enough to get some good speed)
@@SweetChillieBeat yes definitely! the thing that really interferes with signal with something like this is objects in the way. houses, trees etc. as long as you have a line of sight to the car you should be perfectly fine for a back yard size bash. notice how i lost signal kinda on the opposite side of my house. you could also buy a camera/ VTX with a stronger signal (200+ mw)
depending on the type of goggles you buy you won't need the TBS module. I listed some cheap box goggles that will automatically pair with the little VTX camera on the car
If it’s analog goggles you’ll need to make sure it’s on the same channel as the VTX. It’s easy to swap channels. The video will become clear when the channel is found
@@413RC do you have any recommended fpv camera and Fpv receiver that can connect to a mobile phone I want to use fpv googles. And it can connect automatically. sorry for asking a lot I’m a beginner
@@413RC Appreciate the feedback! Power button doesn't shut mine off. Trying a different manufacturer that requires less current so hopefully less heat. I don't need much for range at all, maybe 50 feet
