7 years ago. I had used this. And I don't have the file anymore so sad. This is very useful. It's easy and gets the job done. You can adjust the tip. Hopefully someone could send me email for this..

Very nice work Mikey. Tapered strokes in themselves are a real pain in After Effects. I can definitely see some use for this.

working in AE 2017. For anyone not seeing it when you double click on it in Effects & Presets... just create a Text layer first...then double click on ---> Path Arrow. =)

Hi Katelyn, are you using 2017 or 2018? i've got 2017 open... what happens if you click on Text tool, double click in ur composition...and then go to effects and presets. type in arrow... click on Path Arrow. You will notice there is an 8 on it, which i believe means only works in 8 BIT...make sure you're in 8 Bit mode. so check by going to ur Project panel on left and look if it says 8 bpc, 16 bc or 32 bpc... make sure it's 8 bpc. let me know how it goes.

When I double click on Path Arrow it shows me a line but with no arrow tip. Just a normal line. I'm using After Effects CC 2017.

hi i am trying to use your arrow in AF but can’t seem to change the colour once in 3D i add it to a mask path rotated mask 90 deg switch on 3d but now it has gone back to white and i can’t change it to red and its slowed down my iMac when i add animate would you have any tips to make it work right as i do like arrow

This won't work on AECC18 it says: "After Effects error: Can't import file "Path Arrow.ffx" : Unsupported file type or extension. (0::1) Any way to fix this? Thanks

Hey Mikey, thanks for a great free preset! Just wondering if it's possible to keyframe the length of the arrow so it starts off as an arrow with a short tail and ends up being a full length arrow? I have tried setting keyframes on the range selector start and deleting a section of the arrow to shrink it and then expanding it back out to full length of 800 but it won't let me keyframe it back to full length. Would you have any suggestions please. I suspect I am poking about in the wrong area altogether. Thank you :)

just one question. i like this preset. its awesome and makes for a great quick animation. But there is a problem when you try to make a loop (say the circulation of the gulf stream): if you "close the path" the arrow ends up being cut in half and you kind of mess up the present if the loop crosses itself. Is there a workaround?

Has anyone figured out how to improve preview render time when this text object is extruded? At Quarter quality 160 frames of a 1920 X 1080 Comp is taking about 20 minutes.

Thanks! I ended up just buying the Easy Arrows script for AE. Not the best thing in the world and has some issues of its own, but it worked for my needs. I did notice when using it that all of a sudden one of my arrows got very jagged looking, then realized I had somehow accidentally set the blending mode to 'Dancing Dissolve'... doubt I made that mistake twice and did the same thing when trying Mikey's preset, but I guess there's a chance. Good luck!

same problem here, and I actually haven't even "bent" the paths, they travel along, so they do not make any curves, but still they render out totally pixelated around their edges. could you find a solution?

There is a lot more work for both me and the end user to do in order to make the fancy controllers work. Presets aren't backwards compatible, and I don't often work in CS6. It can be done, it will just take some more time.

Hey Dennis, I use Zaxwerks 3D Serpentine for animated 3D arrows along a path. You could also fake it with After Effects, but I like the real 3D.

It works, you need to install it like a preset, put it in the preset folder and restart AE.

I tried to be a "good-guy" and paid a buck for this (not knowing if it works or not, I thought this fair to support), but the file is not available for the Mac. After unzipping, there is nothing in the MACOSX folder . The file for the PC exists, but if I try to load this into my AE, I get a message that; After Effects error: Can't import file "Path Arrow.ffx": unsupported filetype or exention. (0::1). As a side note, I have absolutely the newest version of AE CC. Very frustrating.

If you add the .ffx into your preset folder on your computer, then refresh AE, it should work, if you get stuck find a video tutorial on installing presets into AE.

For others with this issue 1. You are probably dropping the .ffx preset into the wrong version of AE, try the year like CC 2017 not just CC in case you have multiple versions. If that's not the case.... in AE Menu "Animation">Browse Presets or if you don't have Bridge installed, "Apply Animation Preset". Make sure to restart AE. It should be popping up if you search for it in AE presets

Hi Mikey, the edge of the arrows are quite jagged - I've used it extensively in a client project and they want it less jagged. Tried gaussian and sharpen, etc. etc. Any solution you've come across?
