I put 28 sticks of salted butter in my crockpot, put it on high, fell asleep and woke up to all the brown solids on the bottom. I left the top off. At first, I thought I ruined it by letting it get brown. There was no foam on top. It smelled awesome though. I strained it through a 10 micron cooking oil filter thatvi usually use in water purification. The ghee was a gorgeous gold color. If I can successfully make an awesome ghee in spite of doing everything that Alaska prepper told us not to, anyone can. I can't wait to make butter cookies with this! Score!!!!

Now I’ve made Cannabis butter in the same way Ghee is made but an herb is put into the oil. Yes I know many don’t like Cannabis but it’s a miracle plant that saved my life from cancer as I was so sick that plant helped me have an appetite to eat to save my life. I enjoy all your mellow teachings of prepping 👍🏼🇺🇸 I’ve been pressure canning from 8am to 8pm everyday since I got my canner...what a game changer. Just ya let ya know, thanks for all your do as our brotherhood and sisterhood is what keep Americans awesome 👍🏼🇺🇸💫🙏🏼

The foam you skimmed off is an excellent topping for plain popcorn. The foamy-ness of it makes it distribute better than regular melted butter.

I know that the clarifying process removes the proteins and substances that spoil the fastest... however, all fats and oils do go rancid eventually. I am not trying to come across as a know it all... just please be careful.
@karenredding9439
@karenredding9439 3 года назад
@@CrackerFlower I agree. For long term storage the ghee should be pressure canned. I can butter, but I'm not trying to make ghee necessarily. I put my mason jars with the butter in a 225° oven to melt, remover the top white, and top off from another jar of melted butter, then I pressure can pints for 75 minutes. I made a video on it. Pressure canning butter kills the botulism. To prep my jars I do that over night. Wash and rinse by hand, then dishwasher, then dry in oven 225° for 25 minutes face up on a cookie sheet, and then crack oven door to cool.
@dennisroland5654

I think you should have let all of the water evaporate. You can hear when the bubbles are not bursting. At that point lower the heat and watch carefully as the solids brown slowly. Once they are brown, drain the ghee immediately. I use a fine metal sieve, then pour hot water backward over the sieve to melt out the butter before washing it. I save the solids and eat them with cooked greens.
@sheryl146
@sheryl146 4 года назад
It’s so much better and easier when it’s made in the oven! 225 degrees in a glass pan for an hour to one and a half hours. Skim off any floating things on top and then use a large spoon and lift off the liquid ghee. The solids are on the bottom. You never need to stir. So much easier.

The terms Clarified butter & ghee are technically two different things, but they are typically, but incorrectly, used as synonyms. What is shown in this video (and most other videos as well) is actually clarified butter, not ghee. Even the "ghee" sold in stores is actually clarified butter.

Theres also something called copy canning. Basically the idea is that all the things you buy that come in cans, when you buy them, buy two cans or buy double whatever you usually buy. So if you buy canned spaghetti sauce every month and you buy 4 cans in a month, buy 8. Then you will start having a deeper pantry, you simply rotate so that you are using the older stuff first, and keep doing that. Now, when you have limited budget, you will have to modify that a little. Maybe not buy duplicates of all the stuff you buy at once. A little slower and over time.

Prepping can a daunting task and seem almost impossible, but there are things like this people can start doing and as you said, you can build your confidence that you are learning to do things you did not know how to do before. And this is good because dairy is hard to store, but now we have a form of butter in our pantry. My mother told me that whenever my great grandmother would heat up some milk, she would skim the thickened milk off the top and put that into a jar which she would stir every now and then and make butter.

Thank you so very much for this video! This way I can try it and if I screw it up or Ivan does not like it, I only waste one pound of Butter. Not to mention that for me to purchase 10 pounds of butter is not going to happen right now. Butter is running $5 a pound right now... Yikes! You have done well grasshopper! Say hello to Victor and the family. Much love from Ma 2.
