I love this.. its Gorgeous ❤️. I have always loved the encaustic look but see when you created it is a treat. Its so much more to embossing then just pieces and bits like is most common in cardmaking and such. Thank you for reviving my intrigue with this technique.🌹🌹
I'm working on a 39x39 canvas. It's not hard backed, just the typical bracing behind the canvas. Does this technique work on a more pliable surface like I'm working on? And can I do this technique between layers of the art? Would that be A LOT of embossing powder???? So .... many .... questions ....
Hey Muffy. All good questions. This will work on canvas - and other "softer", more pliable surfaces like fabric and paper. No problem with that at all. You can absolutely work over the melted Vintage beeswax and even embed or emboss into the surface along the way...BUT, remember that if you heat the surface again at any point with a heat tool, the lower layer of EP will heat up and melt and completely change what you created over it. So for me, I usually use it as the final layer. Given the large size of the canvas, you will need a lot of the product. Especially if you are going for a faux encaustic look and need several layers. There is a large size available at www.sethapter.com/catalog/my-embossing-powders. Would also recommend you try the technique out first on a small sample surface. Hope that helps!
You can Susan, but as you remelt after adding second layer, whatever added tends to get mixed into the layers. Usually what I do is wait till my final layer is complete and than add over the top surface.
Hi Karen. These segments are so short, there is no time to go into much detail about much of what we talk about. When used correctly and safely, encaustic painting is absolutely safe. But without proper ventilation (not just an open window when inside but a window exhaust fan), if heating temperatures are too high, if solvents are used, and with certain pigments that have metals -- there can be issues. You can Google this for more information and details if you like.
Why do hosts have the tendency to run their mouth more than they listen. It's is distrating, interruptive and does not add any value to the demonstration.
Hi Eileen. Thanks for commenting about this. I apologize to have made that statement without additional explanation. Wish there had been more time in the segment to do so. I was referring to situations where the artist is using toxic pigments, the heating temperature exceeds 250 degrees and (for sensitive people who are definitely out there) when there is a lack of adequate ventilation. Done correctly and with the above precautions, it is absolutely non-toxic.
