Welder, grinder, vice, wire brushes and files. S'all you need. I've made over $1000 in the past 3 months making horse shoe sculptures. Pumpkins for halloween are a good seller. Xmas trees, wine racks, boot racks, reindeer, cats, custom signage, the list is endless :D
Nice work you can also make book shelves, Ill give you a simple tip make yourself a picket twister which is simple to build get 1/8" ×1/2 flatbar twist it 'look on RU-vid theres some vids that show how to make them,buy a metal bender with a scroll attachment from harbor freight their not very expensive about $175 for both people love ornamental iron work you can make gates, yard ornaments ,fence you can incorporate your horse shoes, you can sell them online or at flea markets ect great job .
You've really made some nice stuff, I have welder, cutting torch, and all types of metal working equiepment and was wondering about doing something like your krafts. Very good work you've done!
Cool to see someone else doing stuff with the horseshoes. I've been making stuff from horseshoes for a year or two for family and friends. Planning on making a stock pile of stuff to take to craft shows and stuff. I have a page on facebook, secondhand horseshoes. Keep up the good work.
All depends on what you want to do. Ark welders are cheaper, quick to set up but often don't leave a "beautiful weld". I prefer my mig welder for projects like this. Now there are two types of mig wire. Flux core and solid core. Flux core wire has a powered flux on the wire, so when you weld a piece of steel, the heat of the weld burns off the flux creating a shield they protects the weld from contamination. Flux core wire is not as clean as solid core wire. But with solid core wire you need to run a shielding gas (ie: argon, or argon co2 mixture). This will give you the cleanest looking welds so long as you tune your machine properly and prep your welding surface.
hey man I got a question maybe you can help me out with I'm trying to make a pice of art for my friend but to do it I need to bend the horseshoes and I have tried to heat them up and they just don't want to bend do you have any suggestions on what I should do
+Trevor Wallpe It sounds simple but it is actually a very challenging task. 1st you need to heat up the shoe to forging temperature (the metal will be a bright orange color). You cannot archive this type of heat in say a wood fire. you really need a propane or coal forge. next you need the propper tools. you Will need a basic anvil at the least and really any type of hammer will do. you then need to start working the shoe on the horn to make it round. very tricky to do that as a novice with out leaving hammer marks in the steel too.
