A quality mixer for its price. It’s possible capabilities is excellent., a guitarist would spend the same on 2-3 FX pedals, loads of guitar and vox effefts, digital 32bit, audio interface, Lao may really useful functions in one mixer. definitely gonna have to get one of these soon
Things that I’d like to see covered in follow-ups: Can the built-in effects work with multiple guitars, basses, and voices; or do they only support one guitar and one voice? Demoing streaming to Instagram, Twitch, RU-vid, and other services would be good. Also, if you’re streaming on an iPad, can you use software instruments as well as external instruments?
Give us a follow-up with some sampled bits of what you've been doing with it/best patches you've experimented with, any advice? Mine's in the mails... can you add more GT/VE fx from a tonecloud somewhere? great work- nicely detailed without being unmanageably complicated :-)
Good walkthrough, I recommend watching the BOSS own playlist on YT as well. I'm a user of the Tascam Mixcast4, RodeCaster Pro II and several other units, I see BOSS has been learnin' here... Although, no SD card in the smaller version of the GigCaster? Playing really cheap here, and this comes from a Roland/BOSS user since the early 70's. I don't know how many amps, effect units, pedals and everything else they've released I've owned or demoed.. Seems like many people are connecting this release to live usage when playing (I guess guitar mostly) as well, like always great with an "all in one" portable solution. This crossed my mind directly because I was thinking of getting the Headrush X5 that's a fantastic unit for the micro setup gigs when flying light, fits into a backpack, you program it to presets and off you go. So the immediate question is if the footswitch input on the GigCaster also accommodates an expression pedal? Also, the modularity and routuing options of the guitar effect chains... it's very advanced on the Headrush. But hey, I'm getting carried away and I guess this is still a livestreaming/rehearsal/demo little unit with added functionality for guitar/bass teachers. Of course I'll be testing these as soon as they're available 🙂
Great run through Thanks. Before I get one of these, can I ask...What is the maximum storage size of Micro SD card the Gigmaster 8 can use? I cannot find anything on this anywhere. Thanks.
Ciao video molto interessante.
I wonder how the guitar effects stack up compared to a GX-100. It seems to be using the same software for this new era of touch screens. I want to buy this to record a small band and adding efx in the box, do you think it would fit the bill?
Two questions for Boss: Number one: can it post process levels if you record on to SD card? So for instance if I record multi instruments simultaneously to the microsd card then need to adjust the levels later is that possible? Number 2: can it send live usb audio out instead of L+R phonos?
One : it can record multitrack on the sd card but when I push playback on the device I only get a wavefile of the entire "song". So I guess the other individual tracks are also on the SD card but you have to load them in your DAW to remix . Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. Two : I don't see why not.
MTK Steam doesnt work for me. Everytime i set it to MTK Stream my PC doesnt Recognize the Gigcaster anymore: An further: even when i set the USB to "Mix Minus" i still get all the Audio from my PC into the Gigacaster
just got one of these, love it, but when i record multitrack for anything over 10 mins it splits evry track into a 10 minute section. so an hours worth of podcast recording for four people produces 24 tracks.....how do i fix this? i can understand it
I just bought the behringer flow8 and would like to know how is it compared to the Boss Gigcaster. Should I return the behringer Flow8? I haven't even open the behringer yet.
I believe you can, but there is very little video or detailed description on exactly how to connect the gigcaster to a phone or iPad and which settings to use. A set by step tutorial would be great for this. So many of us stream to our phones/devices. I don’t stream to my laptop as much. Hope someone will cover that soon!
No midi? The headphone outputs all carry the same stereo-mix? Only four inputs, so a small band with a drummer, bass, guitar, vocals and backing vocals cannot even use it to record rehearsals? Sounded promising first. I wish these videos would at least mention all the things devices can’t do.
This thing would be great for a DAW setup if it would support different sample rates like audio interfaces do. Too bad it’s 48k only. I’ve also looked at Rode, Tascam, and Zoom podcast rigs and they are all fixed sample rate.
I had one for nearly 10 days before decided to sale it... It's not something made for musician. The guitar and bass FX are really really bad, the vocal FX are poor quality... The build quality feel very cheap especially for a product of this price... There is no 'play' button to listen back to your recording you have to enter the 'sd card" menu to do so ... etc.... it's an expensive cheap quality gadet and I would not recomand it to anyone
Actually it is a very well thought out unit. Not very difficult to use. Only thing I miss so far is a built in metronome/clicktrack (that goes to headphones out only)
I am pretty sure the product is amazing, has tons of cool features and seems really well thought out BUT man, someone should have helped the guy demo it out. All the sounds poor mixed, kinda lost trying to do everything by himself. Not his fault for sure, to much for one single brain to handle and in such little time.
The fact that you uttered the phrase 'make music content' shows that you know NOTHING about actual music. You are talking about throwaway sound. Music IS content by definition. If it isn't it's just tuned noise.
