I have friends that own trucking companies. I got this guy a job with one of them. Driving a badass w900 Kenworth. He lasted one month. Straight back to the garbage trucks. He's been there for years now. He loves the trash route.

People just dont like to work these days. They want more and more for doing less and less. Not a hard working generation and im 26 so i can say it. People my age are lazy 75% of the time. About 60% of the kids i went to school with are still living with there parents. I moved out at 17 and been working my ass off ever since. People just dont want to put in the effort anymore. A job is work and they dont like work.

@@T.S.000 I work 12 hour nights 4 on 4 off, night shift destroys the body. I could easily do 12 hour days 5-7 days a week, night shift is just really hard on the body. For a while I had to do 12hrs 6 on 2 off due to staffing and I thought I was going to die.

My dad worked for Republic services as a roll off truck driver for almost 40 yrs in the LA ports. It’s a Tough dirty job but pays well. My pops was making 10k a month by the time he retired. Grateful for my pops.
I worked for WM for 2.5 years, unless you have a lot of driving experience you’re going to start on a residential route and be working the same hours. The turn over rate is so high they had some people working 6 days a week. If you’re young and single it’s a good job to stack some money but if you have a family be prepared to never see them.
You’ll see your family. Everyday. I drive trucks. My old man drove for this company before they was called republic for 20 years. You’ll see your family all the time and this job ain’t as difficult or time consuming as this guy is making it seem.

They’re hiring all the time because working 12 hour shifts all week is crap. No family or personal quality of life, no stranger to long hours and hard work so I speak from experience. Don’t chase the money that accompanies long hours, that’s all you’ll have at the end of the day.
Underrated comment. Worked crazy hours/ moderate to heavy skilled labor through my 20s-35 and there’s always a better way. Difference is, I value time in differently now and definitely appreciate it more.
Dude I work 12 to 14 hrs a day an I have a family life. Im off on weekends an able to go watch my kids play sports during the week. Yea I might need tired come Friday bit that's life.
To get up early enough to get ready and drive to work, you'd have to go to bed at like 7 or 8pm unless you wanna live off like 5hrs of sleep per night.. That means you come home from work, shower and go to bed.. No life.

I work as a city bus driver. Been here 8 years, and $140k per year is definitely achievable. Most of us clear $80k in our sleep. You can make bank with just a class B license, but there’s a lot to deal with, believe me.

Different strokes for different folks. I know a few that travel and work long hours for that very same reason they don’t want to be home for whatever reason. Weird to give up your family for money and stay gone 95% of the year. (They could all make almost $90k a year working near home, more if they did OT)

I work 4 10 hour days with overtime everyday and optional work on fridays for extra overtime not bad at all working more hours to get that money. Having 4 day work week is prolly the best thing being able to have 3 days off all the time more time for family and yourself

I drive a water truck for $40 an hour and all I have to do is drive around construction sites spraying dirt with water. Full medical, 401k, retirement plan and most important part is non union 👍
I worked for this company and believe you don’t wanna work there if your a mechanic they don’t like to buy parts for there trucks and always want you to patch things up

I'm a CDL Class A driver. I hauled trash in the tractor trailer division of my previous employer. It was my first CDL job. I made $25.00 dollars an, plus overtime. Working 12 hours a day becomes arduous after a while. Getting up at 3AM and not leaving until 5PM wears you out. Currently I haul mail for a private contractor. I work work 12 hours overnight, 4 days a week. My route is permanent. I make $29.00 an hour. I left my previous employer due to dealing with the landfill idiots.

i do garbage in seattle. High turn over because people get fired for hitting to much shit, damage 3 things in a 12 month period. Fired. If they like you, they can bring you back but you’re on probation for 12months. (hit another thing) hours depend on the route, my shops union. New guys are cover drivers, different route everyday. Someone calls in sick that’ll be your job for the day.
That’s what people don’t realize. These aren’t 12 hr/days occasionally. It’s 5-6 days, for years on end. Sure you could make decent money if the company doesn’t pull one over on you. Even with that. What’s your home life like? Tell you from experience, it’s not fun. It’s not fun slaving your life away just for the fuckin government to grab 35% of your money.
I work 830 am to 430pm get paid by the day no matter how early we get off and if it rains the whole week we only go in Saturday and still get paid for the whole week
I work for republic rt now doing front load.. and theres a lot fo overtime always and also depends on your route .. i work from 4am -3pm 100k is good have to consider all the union benefits one of the best insurance for u and ur family and almost free plus i get around 250-300 a week in my pension from the union And i have plenty of time for my family during the week and weekends
This has been a highpaid job for long time, I remember in 2008 these guys were like laughing at the economic turmoil, there is security in jobs like this cause society always needs these jobs. A neighbor of mine when I grew up, retired from this job and has two houses, nice cars, and full pension retirement benefits.

$28hr starting $35 top of depending on union contracts I’m a residential driver I make $39 because I’m also a relief driver covering new routes and different trucks everyday in the WA state area and also each states pay rate is different due to cost of living

Because my work is commission, overtime isn't something I get. Given the hours I work each day (often 7-7, sometimes 7-6) I would MUCH rather take the 3 on 4 off option. You get more days to yourself than you have to worm at that point
Worked for an agency for one year worked at 5 different yard place lots of applications never got hired. Moved all the way out here San Diego hopefully for a full time work with the agency the yard I worked at cancelled the contract. Blessed to meet some positive brother's at victory outreach church who help get another blessing job with the carpenter union. Leave everything in god's hands God is good all the time have to go through some tuff time to get blessed

I make $31/hr as well as over time. Pick our own routes every day and work 4 days a week. Usually make around $90k a year. There’s money to be made in these less than glamorous jobs.

My buddy was working as a laborer at his job making 20, got his cdl, company wanted to start him at 28, he said the other guys start at 32.50 so he’ll walk if they couldn’t honor it, they matched it bc they needed a driver 🤷🏽♂️

They didn’t tell you that they start you on a garbage truck and it takes years to get to the rolloff service though if you want to do rolloff service you have to have seniority
There are companies that only do roll off services though. So there’s that. Like recycling companies strictly or even companies that remove contaminated dirt from construction sites. Pretty diverse.
Every job I’ve had, had a dude just like this. Just a cool laid back guy that is probably very good at his job, but doesn’t act like he’s anything special. I’m thinking back as I type, and can see each of their faces. Funny how there are only like 10 different personality types.

Covid hit all businesses hard. I was just hired at republic for front load commercial. Confirming 28 an hour and like 80k a year. New CDL school grads - serious job with serious pay. Company will also train CDL drivers. About the hours…. I do about 55 hours a week. No weekends. Good pay, benefits and perks. So CDL grads with 0 experience - republic is hiring. Make that money from day 1 ! Life changing employment for some.
I also work disposal in Rhode Island and it’s long days and a lot of hours I work 50-60 every week never stops. Great money, Monday-Friday and great health benefits through waste connections!
You should get 2- 1hr breaks. I worked for a company and we worked 5-12 hour shifts and on fridays we would work 13-14 so we would have the weekend off and rest up and enjoy time with family. Our company offered us 2-1 hour breaks and rule #1 don’t be late! I couldn’t believe how many people would beg for a job and then get fired a couple weeks after being hired for being 10-30 minutes and always with a different excuse.
Bay Area offers good money. I was offered 50 an hour as water plant operator but turned it down cuz I don’t like going to the bay area but they offer good money
1. Yes, it is 28$ an hour but that’s for a swing driver who can operate several different trucks with different boxes. 2. You may work 12 hrs shifts but they usually cut you off at 40 hrs and have another driver pick up the rest of your route. 3. That’s a roll off yard box. The garbage inside freezes during winter and your stuck shoveling it out unless there’s a mini excavator on site. This is not a position you’re going to get on day one. It’s also probably not a position you want if you’ve never done this type of work. There’s a reason why they’re always hiring.
RS hauls for the Foundry I work at. For our location they’re required to have CDL A with Hazmat endorsements. Due to the higher weights and hazardous materials in some of the loads. It’s not uncommon for their drivers to start off with a new CDL and eventually leave to become owner operators with their own MC authority. The best drivers learn to work for themselves.
Roll back is where it's at. My buddy does it. Now it's union so you have to bid on that spot. It's not easy to get into. You have to start in a residential truck.

This what they don’t tell the young dudes who decide not to go to trade school or to college and try and take what they think is the “easy way” out. A kid going from high school to a CDL job similar to this is in for a RUDE awakening. It’s very physically demanding, consequences for making mistakes are huge, working “normal” or “regular” hours won’t get you paid like you think they will, etc. 12 hours is basically you’re entire day…
I work at Republic and clear 100k every year EASILY. Start time is at 3-4 usually do between 9 hours - 12 hours a day. Granted I have 13 years of experience.
They make like 60k a year without OT. Maybe 70-80k if you’re not killing yourself working 70-80 hours a week. Don’t be fooled into thinking they are making 100k a year.
It not hard. Just a lot of overtime. It’s easy to make six figures with a cdl. Cuz almost all of them have overtime. Assuming some are top pay like he says. at 28+5= 33 an hour 33(rate)x40(standard week)= 1,320x52 (weeks a year)= 68,640 just in base 40 hours a week. Now we apply OT he’s says 12 hours So 60 hours a week and 20 hours of overtime. 49.50x20=990(OT)+1320(base)= 2310 a week gross which is 120,120 a year at that average.

32/hr is like mid 60k base pay. Which is good if you have no degree tbh. To push that to 100k you’d be putting in massive amounts of overtime. Could be worth it if you don’t mind the grind of it.
that 100k is usually when your there for many years, and you work your way into front load or roll off specialty driver. A residential worker makes WAYY less unless they themselves have been there forever
Watching videos like this made me realize why I left labor jobs and became an agent. Make more money to work way less and have an actual life all while being out of the weather. Messed up how companies overwork their employees but complain when they ask for an extra day off or to leave early

$35 an hour for 8 hours, and then time in a half for the other 4 hours at $52, that’s 20 hours of Ot a week, which comes out to $2440 gross every week and 126k a year!!
$35/hr x 12 hrs at 5 day work week with 52 weeks is $109,200 without overtime pay, which is another $18,200. Who the hell wants to to work that much though.

I’ve been noticing that a lot of trucking jobs make you work 12 hours shifts every day or close to it. The companies want to pay you small money and get the most work out of you. Truckers are not appreciated nowadays and the pay should be way higher for the special license that we attained and the risk factor that goes in to driving a big truck.
I've done roll off and the work itself is super easy but I was working 13-14 hours a day, 6 days a week. It was decent money but the days were very long.
He was right to ask if they pay overtime. I drove intermodal locally for a big company and they do not pay extra for overtime. Same rate for each of the 12 hours. Not sure how they get away with it, but if it was illegal, they wouldn’t continue to do things that way.
12 hour shift for (very likely) 6 days a week… 72 hour work week for $150k a year (including overtime) to hustle dumpsters onto a dump bed… I’ll shop elsewhere for a job

I worked Waste Management 4 years. $22.23 hourly 60 hours per week and loved it. I built a life around the overtime then they cut me back to 4 days. Now I'm OTR teaming with my dad making way more.
Anything trucking, there’s decent pay and a lot of OT. I’ve been local for over 6 years now, wouldn’t take anything starting less than $28 an hour. Get your CDL!
I like that guy you can tell he's a no-nonsense kind of guy and I like when the RU-vidr says "that's it??" and then he says "yeah". -you basically just have to want to work.
Worked as a helper for a while for RS in Los Angeles and would not recommend for soft or lazy people. I appreciate the guys who do this daily because it's really long days and nonstop moving and lifting depending on the route and waste type. Sometimes you can spend all day clearing out just a few alleys or running along side the truck dumping heavy, wet green waste in a neighborhood, among lots of other situations depending if you're on a rear loader or snagging dumpsters. I did it for $13/hr through a temp agency during a rough time and it's definitely a job if you need to work.
