What fabulous tips and instructions on getting them done perfectly each time. Thanks so much. I really love the bonus suggestion. I have actually been doing that for a very long time, even before computers. I used to do so much with cut & paste. So great with the computer and all our today gadgets. Thanks again.
Just got a quilling set the other day. Started quilling and i wondered how it would be on copy paper, than i started creating strips on the computer with hearts. Thought it was a pretty good idea. Now, i still have to learn to quill . 😂
I wanted to gauge how expensive it could be to get started but I'm so glad I found your video. So many of these tips will be useful for making my paper gift boxes. Thanks for sharing such wonderful wisdom!
I’m so happy to hear my tutorials are helpful! That’s right - you don’t have to spend a dime to get started in quilling. I even made a video showing how to use a toothpick: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nsLHD7r60Pw.html
I’ve not long returned to crafting after a bad stroke so I looked at quilling this has got to be the best tip I’ve seen on you tube, thank you so much this will be so cost effective x
A HUGE thank you to YOU BrendaLea!!! You put a huge smile on my face to hear I've got you addicted to my tutorials - hahahhahaa! That's really so awesome to hear. Thank you for giving me continued energy to keep making more. ☺
Thank you soooo much Cecelia for the cutting strips templates! These, together with your explanations, are so helpful for a beginner quiller like me. Greetings from Asunción, Paraguay 😀
I'm a novice but also a very enthusiastic new quiller! At first I was very apprehensive about being able to even create something as magnificent as you do on a regular but surprisingly (and with your direction and guidance) I've been succeeded at creating quite a few beautiful works of art f I say so myself. Thank you so much for putting the time and effort into these step by step tutorials. you're a godsend 😘
You are an OUTSTANDING INSTRUCTOR!! I have learned so much in just three video's! I've subscribed and I'll be going back to watch ALL of your posted video's. I'm a cross-stitcher, but I love paper also! I've been hoarding for years (literally I have paper from 1975!!) I'm so glad QUILLING came back around and You are a Master Teacher! THANK YOU and THANK You again!!
Thank you so much for giving me a huge smile Marcia! 😀 I'm so happy my tutorials have inspired you to dust off your paper supplies - I personally find the older papers to be better quality actually. I look forward to seeing what you make!
You’re welcome Lolita! I’m glad you’re inspired to learn more about quilling. I have many tutorials for beginners. Here’s one I made for anyone who doesn’t have any supplies yet. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nsLHD7r60Pw.html
Cecelia, this is great!!! I don't cut my own, yet. My attempts so far have not been successful. But your detailed approach makes it look so easy. Thankyou :)
Hi Lorena, thanks for you kind words! I hope my methods make your quilling strips a success. Please let me know how it worked for you after you give it a go!
Thank you for sharing your techniques in cutting paper strips. Hopefully I could download the template of it because I want to learn more especially the one that I can print on the strips, very much interesting. I'm very much willing to learn more coz I love papers too!!! 🥰😍

Thank you so much for your awesome videos! I just started back into quilling, trying to not go too stir crazy in this pandemic haha but your videos are so beautiful and easy to understand, definitely love the little tips and hacks, and thanks for the templates!
Welcome back to quilling Sam! I’m glad my videos were helpful. It is definitely hard to stay inside but yes!!! Quilling helps pass the time in tranquility. Thank YOU for giving me a huge smile today!
i love this so much..thankful to you a lot. which type of paper, u have used for quilling..stips...... it will be very useful for me a old woman.....stay blessed.......
Thank you very much! This is exactly what I needed! I have been trying to cut my quilling strips by hand, but they became so uneven! That last cutting tip seemed the best for me. Thanks again! And good luck in quilling!
@@PaperZenCeceliaLouie No! :D I know quilling for more than 3 years now, but latest sort of active quilling period is for more than a year. How long do you do quilling?
Hi Liesma, I started quilling in 2006. I started sharing my ideas and tips on RU-vid to help other quillers learn the things I wish I knew when I started quilling. The best part about quilling is that I feel I am always learning new things, even after so long! 😄
@@PaperZenCeceliaLouie Hi! That's very nice from you, that you share these things! I myself sart without any special help - I just saw some quilled cards online and just started to try it by myself. Only later I looked some tutorials for learning how to make some new forms or how to do better some processes, that I've been doing differently.
That’s great you learned by intuition! I remember seeing an old book in the library and was intrigued by the art form, but I was not inspired by the examples. Then I saw a newer book called Twirled Paper, and was hooked after that. Unfortunately there was very little about quilling on the internet back then so I just kept learning little by little. It’s fun to see people’s reactions!
love these templates thank you. Could you share how to print on the strips, I can't seem to work it out. My text is printing vertically not horizontal.
You’re welcome Elizabeth! Hmmm, I didn’t know it could do that. I’m wondering which program are you using to print with? I highly suggest Adobe Acrobat Reader which is free to download. It has solved many printing problems others have had in the past. Here is where you can find it: get.adobe.com/reader/
Hello, I'm Tara and I just became mesmerized by this art. I had never heard of it and have just been watching your tutorials and have not actually started a project yet but you will definitely be my go to. I had one major question on how do you print your messages on the strips. Are you doing it on typewriter or how? Excuse my ignorance. Thanks in advance for your response.
Welcome to quilling Tara! I am able to type on my strips using my computer. I'm using a free program called Adobe Acrobat Reader. After opening my free PDF file (see the link below) using Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can type your own words into the strips and make fun messages. paperzen.blogspot.com/2020/03/3-ways-to-cut-quilling-strips-by-hand.html
Awesome techniques... I really like the idea of not cutting til the edges so that it will b easy for storing... but I don't use any cutting mat as base . I use wooden plank.. cud u please tell me wat type of mat to be used n if possible share the link of it... Thanqqq 😀💖💖💖
Hi Gouthami, I'm happy to hear you liked my tips! I've been using my "self healing" cutting mat for over 20 years so it's a good investment. It doesn't dull your blade like a wooden plank will over time, but you must ensure your knife stays perpendicular to the mat or else you will cut a hole in it. Sometimes I see cutting mats in dollar stores but they tend to be smaller. I don't see the exact brand I'm using on Amazon, but I found something close to it: amzn.to/2ULsAHS
Hi Cecilia, thank you for your wonderful description! I have a question for your cutting with a cutting machine. Was that the Cricut. How do you do it there? Do you use 130m g paper? I tried it on my own with my Cricut Maker. I had rolled strips and no clean enges, i used 130 g paper.
I don’t see a template. Am I missing something in the link? I see to put it in my cart but don’t see any PDF. Can you tell me what I’m doing wrong please? Thanks so much for this informative video.
Hi there, after you purchase the file for free, the link will be automatically sent to you. There is no cost but this way I don’t have to manually send it to you. Glad you found my video helpful.
So I am new and want to see if I like it before I go and buy stuff. So my question is if she uses white lined paper can I also use construction paper for the color?
Welcome to quilling Sharon! Yes, I prefer to try things before buying all the supplies. Here is a video showing how to try it with no specific tools: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nsLHD7r60Pw.html You can use construction paper, and I did that with some friends for their first time. I do find that lower quality of paper more challenging to work with though.
Great question Neeta! I want to make a new video to answer this question better one day. Until then, I have this older video which may give you some help: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Lq_oHsARmU0.html
If I’m making large, open shapes, then I prefer to use Canson Mi-Teintes which is 160 gsm. If I’m making smaller traditional quilling shapes, then I tend to cut text weight paper (70 lb).
Hello Alla, there are no specific rules. Every quiller decides what they like best. However, most quillers use 1/8 inch or 3 mm for traditional quilling. For letters, I prefer 1/4 inch width.
Hi Lenore, Here is a page on my website that explains my paper choices in more detail. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. Cecelia paperzen.ca/pages/quilling-paper
Hi cecelia, I'm Eunice from Nigeria and I'm very new to quilling. I have papers but I don't have a system or laptop to calculate the length of my paper. Infact I don't have any instrument except ruler, paper and my knife. Please how can I cut it?
Hi Eunice! I'm waving at you from Canada! Welcome to quilling! You can still cut with ruler and knife. Make your measurements with pencil and ruler once. Keep that sheet and use on the edges, top and bottom, like I have in my video. Then you can re-use them repeatedly. Do you have any ruled paper for writing on? If so, here is a video that may help: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nsLHD7r60Pw.html
@@PaperZenCeceliaLouie thanks so much. So I want to order some of the tools here in Nigeria and I search for some here but want to be sure which is best, like the cutting mat,( I saw different sizes of cutting mat and I dont know which size or product is best) the rotary cutter any other tools I need to get started. Thanks as I await your responds.
I have purchased both name brand and dollar store cutting mats, and feel they are quite similar, so I suggest buying a cheaper cutting mat. For manual cutting tools I like the brands Olfa and Fiskar. I hope that helps you!
@@PaperZenCeceliaLouie thanks but I'm seeing them in different sizes like the cutting mat and rotary cutter comes in a4, a3, a5 which one is the best size to buy?
Hi teacher! In every video I watch, there are tiny details of many "quick intelligence" products. I use all of them. ... Paper cutting does not require the same degree of precision in every quilling work. For example, if you are designing a piece of jewellery, a standard is absolutely required in the width of the paper strips and the number of strips you use is very large, and for this, a machine precision is required and a serial paper strip production is required. however, if you are working on an “on-edge” quilling piece, you will use less paper strips than when designing jewelry, and the standardization of the paper strips may not be that important (within the piece, the small differences are not so obvious.); that's why it's okay to cut the paper strips by hand while you're making these kinds of works, and I think it would be better if you cut them by hand... Yes, my dear teacher! Forgive my arrogance for writing the long and unnecessary information above for you. Can I ask my question now?.. Right now I'm busy making quilling jewelry. And as I said above, I have to produce standard width paper. I think the most suitable solution for this is "rotary" cutter or guillotine cutter. Which model are you using in this video? fiskars/?... What is your advice on this? Brand and model? I wish you success in your studies. stay with love. thanks for your helpful.
I agree Mehmet - precision is needed for specific projects, but not for all. If I didn't have my electric cutter, I would definitely cut by hand using a rotary cutter. I've used my Fiskars rotary cutter for 15 years but they don't sell this model anymore. I don't have any experience with any other type because mine continues to work well. I tried looking for a model name on my cutter, but there is no specific model name on it. I think they didn't give it a name so long ago. Have fun hunting!
@@PaperZenCeceliaLouie yes. When you say electric machine, do you mean Cricut or Silhoutte machines? Or something else? (Am I asking too many questions? But I'm a corious student! 😉 )
@@PaperZenCeceliaLouie Ooo, dear cecelia! Thank you very much for your valuable answers. Your teaching effort is very valuable... You are the only one for me, in paper and quilling! I greet you with all my respect.👋

@@PaperZenCeceliaLouie Thank you for such a quick response! Is there a link to your contact page? Are you viewing on a computer or on a phone? If on a phone, can you see up/down arrows on the right of the title? For your convenience, here is the link to my blog page: paperzen.blogspot.com/p/quilling-tutorials.html?m=1
Hi Cecelia i am using an ipad. There is no up or down arrow, only a forward one. When I press this it just gives me the reference points for the segments of the video. But no matter, your blog link worked and I have the email! Thanks so much. You are so kind. I hope you are keeping safe wherever you are💕
Actually I just found the down arrow, but still only gives reference points to segments. When i click on one of those it just takes the video to that point.
Hi Vidya, every quiller has their preference, but I would suggest between 105-160 gsm, depending on your project and the size of your project. I personally like to use lighter paper for smaller work for a greeting card, and thicker paper when I'm making wall decor. Here is an FAQ page on my blog: paperzen.blogspot.com/p/quilling-faq.html
