➤ How to make Ringtone for iPhone using iTunes?
1. Launch iTunes on your Windows PC.
2. Select SONGS in LIBRARY section in iTunes.
3. Connect iPhone to PC using lightning connector.
4. Tap on little iPhone icon on the iTunes top left corner.
5. Now under SUMMARY section look for MANUALLY MANAGE MUSIC AND VIDEOS checkbox. Mark it!
6. Now on iTunes Library page, select the song from your iTunes library, right click and tap SONG INFO.
7. Select OPTIONS.
8. Change the STOP and START TIMES. Make sure total length of the ringtone doesn't exceed 30 seconds.
9.Now MARK CHECKBOXES next to the Start and Stop times and tap OK.
10. Now click on the song, and go to FILE -- CONVERT, and select CREATE AAC VERSION.
(iTunes will create a new song with a new time length next to the original song)
11. Right click on the new song, select SHOW IN WINDOWS EXPLORER.
12.The new song will show up in your explorer window with .m4a file extension. Copy this song to desktop and delete the AAC version of the song from iTunes Library.
13. Rename the FILE EXTENSION of the Ringtone file from .m4a to .m4r (Do not rename the file name)
14. Select YES when warning is prompted.
15. Now connect iPhone to iTunes and drag this ringtone file from desktop to TONES folder or DEVICES section.
16. That’s all! The new ringtone can be found on your iPhone at SETTINGS - SOUNDS & HAPTICS- RINGTONE.
So, this is how you make ringtone for iPhone using iTunes.

So I did everything in the video, but at the last part, where you drag the file into the Tones section, when I dragged mine, nothing appeared, as in nothing changed. I couldn't see the song in Tones. ??? I successfully added a song once, but when I tried again, it wouldn't work.

Hey, did you change the file extension properly? Please follow this to enable .m4a file extension; Click 'View' tab in Windows Explorer and select 'File name extension' This will enable .m4a Now change it to .m4r And drag it tones on iTunes library page and not on iPhone page. (Let me know if you want to know the different) 🤔

Great video. I did two ringtones and it worked perfectly. Now I am trying to do more, and I did them the exact same way. However, I now get a message that the duration of the song is too long. Any thoughts on this? Thanks so much.

Ah yes happened to me as well, until I saw my mistake... so right after you've selected the option to "show in windows explorer" for some reason it shows both versions of the song (the AAC you created as the shortened version AND the song as its full duration). Look over to the right of the windows explorer page, under the search bar should be a "details" tab, click on that and it'll show you the full details of both songs, including which one is the shortened version and thus copy & paste to your desktop. I hope this helps!

FYI for Mac users - Apparently the Tones folder was removed/hidden on Music (FKA iTunes) with a previous update. All you need to do now is drag the .m4r file right into the Music library (no folders needed, just drag and drop it right in). Sync your phone then the ringtone will show up in Settings - Sounds & Haptics.

You need to copy it to iTunes Library page and not iPhone settings page in iTunes. Also ensure m4r file extesion is correct.

All this struggle trying to get 40 second ringtone to work and I changed it to 30 and it worked right away.. I don't understand why almost everything says it can go up to 40 seconds though? Anyways thank you for your quick and easy to understand tutorial Update: looks like I tried 39 seconds and it worked so guess they want it below 40 seconds -.-

Thank you for the step-by-step instructions. I had done this before, but couldn't remember how I did it. Watching this, I was able to find the previously created M4R file and copy it to a new iPhone so the phone has it's familiar ringtone. Hi, thank you for your tutorial. I was able to save my 1st customised ringtone to "Files" but for my 2nd ringtone attempt, it could no longer be saved to Files.. whenever I press "Save to Files" it goes back to the menu. How can I do this?

I can't thank you enough. The transition from a Droid to IPhone has been painful to say the least. I swear Apple hates its customer base as "User friendly" is not in their vocabulary. (Yet I have a Macbook pro and love it. But their phones..... they cause hair loss)

Hey, what about an iPhone 6s? You mention this works for iPhone 12, but what about previous versions of the iPhone? Because I can't get it to work. It shows a NO icon when I drag it to Tones.
