I was all of eight when this aired... Lived in "Gitmo" had no TV...only radio ( great programs..like The Shadow) got caught up once we moved to Calif.,
How awesome that we can watch these old shows from way back. I can remember watching these shows as a young kid. It’s a damn shame that they just don’t do tv like this anymore, now everything seems to be “reality shows.” Love that I can watch this on RU-vid, brings back great memories.
The song, Daddy’s Little Girl brought tears. I miss my “daddy” so much. Kids don’t realize how precious the times are with their fathers until much later.
Marshan Thomas - yes, deep dear loss. My parents became my friends more and more as I grew older and came to appreciate them unlike before. Dad’s been gone 5 1/2 yrs. Mom passed recently. Never the same again, but so grateful for the time I had with them. ❤️👍🏻. I’m sure you know what I mean. Sorry for your loss too, but be so thankful you had your dear mother. 😉
When I got married in 1987, my father and I danced to this song at my reception. I will never forget how handsome he looked in his tux, as dad held out his hand and said, "May I have this dance little girl"? Daddy passed away in 2002. What I wouldn't give to be in his arms right now! Oh yes!!!! I'm still daddy's little girl!!!!
I've heard of it, but the name of the show never appealed to me so I never bothered watching. I saw the first episode tonight. This, being the second episode, how come one of the kids is missing from the opening?
It was on for 11 year season 1 to 3 he was married with 2 kids Terry and Russ sorry if his name is spelled wrong then season 4 he was a widow then then season 5 to 11 she was married again and got a 5 year old stepdaughter Linda and Terry left after season 5 and only guest stared after that and the show became the Danny Thomas show
Thanks for posting. Having grown up in the 70s and 80s with reruns of 'I Love Lucy', 'The Honeymooners', 'The Dick Van Dyke Show', 'Leave It to Beaver', and 'Dennis the Menace', it's a treat to see 'Make Room for Daddy' ('The Danny Thomas Show').
"Make Room for Daddy" was produced at Desilu, although not by Desilu. Despite all this, it was Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz who engaged Danny Thomas for the show and it was Desilu that promoted the show to audiences. Ball and Arnaz considered it their third show. even though they didn't produce it. Danny Thomas was publicly ever-grateful to Ball and Arnaz for taking a chance on his show. That was evident in the crossover shows that Danny Thomas' tv family and thr Ricardos made on each other's shows.
Her death was just discussed on the show, and barely, at that. Having a major character die was considered a risky move for the 1950's. Divorce was never an option in an era where the word 'pregnant' was taboo and couples slept in twin beds. They were going to have Danny Williams as a single parent but the ratings slipped, so Marjorie Lord was brought on board as Kathy O'Hara, as well as her daughter, Linda.
@@Sunny-jz3dy Technically, it did. The fourth year was the last on ABC. The ratings were still good enough that CBS was willing to take the show. In the Fall of 1957, it was placed in the Monday 9pm timeslot where *I Love Lucy* was - it had ended in the Spring of 1957.
The Danny Thomas Show on www.metv.com/videos/ is high def for an old B&W show. Much better than it could have ever looked on the TV's we had back then.
It says here that this episode was made in 1953 and Terry Moore looks how old? 10 yrs ? But in the Christmas film "The great Rupert" it says it was made in 1950 and Terry Moore looks between 17 and 19 yrs old. Can anyone explain please?!
Trump brought this sitcom back to prime time tonight when he had Danney Williams as his guest.Danney filed a paternity suit against Bill Clinton today.
In 1956, the series became "THE DANNY THOMAS SHOW", through its final episode in 1964. Daytime repeats on NBC (1960-'65) used the "MAKE ROOM FOR DADDY" title for the 1957-'61 episodes, although several of the original "MAKE ROOM FOR DADDY" episodes were also repeated.
After a year a look alike actress replaced her, she eventually left the series too when they married her off to Pat Harrington. Sherry wanted to break out of being typecast as sweet little Terry, by her late teens she had blossomed into a great beauty and roles as an ingenue on such shows as 77 Sunset Strip awaited. She was great as a gun moll in one episode! Unfortunately, and ironically it being Hollywood, her incredible curves held her back as producers took one look at her and didn't take her seriously as a legit actress capable of dramatic roles. They might have had a small point, in one 77 Sunset Strip episode she played a mountain girl in pants so tight they looked painted on, she was so distracting you lost sight of the plot. That was par for the course on 77, they had the most starlets appearing in Hollywood history, but Jackson wanted a serious career. She didn't get it, but she is a fine person and you won't find negative thing said about her in Hollywood, which is rare.
She left the show after five years. Was very close to Jean Hagen, who had a three year contract and left then. Jackson wanted to leave but was held to her five year contract. In the show, she went off to college, after making a few appearances to set up an 'off to college' storyline. Penny Parker replaced her later, in order to marry her off and move to the West Coast.
Oh my gosh! A little boy shared and slept in his sister’s room. He wasn’t a girl. They should have separated the two rooms because they are difference in sexes!😮
Jean Hagen died of throat cancer in 1977. Make Room for Daddy turned out to be quite successful and Ms Hagen continued to star in this TV show for 3 seasons running until she left, reasons not explained but various rumors abounded that she was too tempermental to work with the cast, had several rows with her leading co-star Danny Thomas, wasn't happy the way the producers portrayed her character as being too ineffectual for her liking or was a closet alcoholic, a fact which would blight her TV/film career so her character was killed off until Marjorie Lord took over, being cast as the 2nd wife.
Two actresses, and both left due to serious health issues. First, Louise Beavers, and then Amanda Randolph. They were both very talented actors and it's sad to contemplate the sort of roles African American actors were forced to play. Servants, mammies and so on. Randolph certainly did the best she could with the material given her.
I shared a room with my sister when we were in third grade! These are 11 and six! So sad Rusty couldn't shake the show. He shit himself before mud life
Danny Thomas was forced against his will to have Jean Hagen as his television wife. He could not stand her attitude, or what he considered her slovenly appearance. During one rehearsal, he is said to have have shouted, "For God's sake, Jean, put on a little lipstick."
