Good ol' Danny Thomas. He did so much to bring goodness into the world. Thank you for St Jude's Hospital.

Wow. Rusty was such a great little actor. I wish he hadn’t taken his life.

Interesting side note: Both Sherry Jackson (Terry) and Johnny (Sammy Ogg) had appeared in a film together a few years prior to this broadcast in "The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima"

As I was growing up, I watched the episodes with Marjorie Lord, and Angela Cartwright, and Rusty Hamer. And I watched the last couple of seasons of "Daddy" when they were new. It was only later that I discovered the really early shows that featured his earlier wife, played by Jean Hagen, and daughter, played by Sherri Jackson. And pre Angela Cartwright. I wanted to see them, but for some reason, they were really kept off television re-runs. I'll admit I'm not current on how the earlier episodes have been shown...maybe on TV Land? Awhile back, I looked up the availability of the earlier shows on DVD, but they only had the 1953 season. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like somebody wanted to keep the really early seasons of the show from being seen by people. And, yes, Sherri Jackson really did blossom into a beautiful young woman.

The early seasons were supposedly kept out of syndication because Jean Hagen (and later her estate) had control of the broadcast rights. There was a lot of bad blood leading to Jean quitting the show after the third season, and Danny having her character killed off so she couldn't come back if she changed her mind.

@@sharonpolikoff7282 The final two seasons (1962-1964) had similar issues with Marjorie Lord.

The song medley consists of: "I'm Looking Over A Four Leaf Clover", "I'll String Along With You", "Breezin' Along With The Breeze", "If I Could Be With You (One Hour Tonight)", and "The Birth Of The Blues"

Amazing, they had a full orchestra playing in their apartment, when Danny sang the song medley..

Danny Thomas was so angry at Jean Hagen for quitting the show that I don't think he ever spoke to her again.

Not only that- he saw to it that she NEVER appeared on the show again by having "Margaret" die off-camera before the fourth season began in the fall of 1956, leaving "Danny Williams" a WIDOWER that season. AND, he withheld her episodes from future network and daytime repeats [although a few appeared on NBC's daytime schedule in the early 1960's]. The current repeat cycle begins with the 1956-'57 season.

Aaron Ruben was the producer, even though Danny was a co-executive producer. He just didn't want her associated with HIS program.

@@fromthesidelines In my opinion that was wrong of him not to let them be seen again just cause he was mad at her that really punishing the fans. Who grew up watching it hoping it would come out on dvd to show their children and grandchildren in fact they really only have season 5 and 6 on dvd

@@natvan29 Sherry Jackson said that she left the show because Jean Hagen was her friend and the only thing that made work on the show tolerable. Problem was she had a five year contract and had to hang on a while longer after Jean left.

In the season 6, episode 4 "Terry Goes Steady", Rusty Hamer's older brother John Hamer appears as a would be beau of Sherry Jackson's. The resemblance is striking. In season 6 Sherry is no longer in the opening credits, but listed in the end credits with the guest stars. It was striking how much she matured from the previous season, maybe she had informed Danny Thomas she wanted to go for adult roles such as she did on several 77 Sunset Strips.

she left the show about a year after Jean Hagen left, there are some old interviews with her saying she did not like being on the show and found Danny Thomas bossy and she felt pressured to stay on the show

They weren't identified as "Desilu" until the end of 1955. Danny was SO pleased and impressed with Desilu's facilities that he also produced 'THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW", "THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW", 'THE JOEY BISHOP SHOW" and "GOMER PYLE, U.S.M.C." at the studio.
