At first I thought remembering $19 owed seemed a little bit petty, but then I looked it up and $19 in 1950 is $204 today! Makes a bit more sense (cents wink wink).

Sad and ironic that Fred Allen mentions needing another 10 years to finish his book since he died just 6 months after this broadcast (assuming the Sept 1955 date is correct).

I'm a big fan of What's my Line, but never saw this show before. It must have been on when I was already asleep at night back when I was a kid. Lovely to see Gene and Betty and even Fred Allen and Gloria Dehaven. Strange that Fred said he needed to live 10 more years. He died well before that time.

As a child of the 90’s I was taught to know my home address in case of emergency. It’s better she knows the home address than not and it was much harder to get around back then. Less chance of someone entertaining the idea of coming over so to speak. Just a different time for sure.

This is absolutely fascinating. My great-grandparents were 31.When this showed aired and they're still with me.I'm happy to say. They were in World War two and my grandparents were only six at the timeand they were in Vietnam, My dad was in Desert Storm, and I was in Afghanistan, Army Captain. This is fascinating, though. Going back all this time. Where is this film hidden? It's 70 years ago.

I wonder whether or not Fred Allen knew that there was already an urban folksong, "The Man Who Never Returned," written in 1949. It probably wasn't popularized until The Kingston Trio recorded it in 1959, but according to Wikipedia, it was originally adapted from an older folksong about a ship, as a mayoral campaign song for Boston candidate Walter A. O'Brien. [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M.T.A._(song) ]As a native Bostonian, Fred might have heard the original. Anyway, here's a link to the Kingston Trio version, recorded about 4 years after this "Make The Connection" episode. :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Dh994JcEfkI.html
