www.democracyno... - We continue our coverage of the 40th anniversary of the overthrow of Chilean President Salvador Allende with a look at the critical U.S. role under President Richard Nixon and his National Security Advisor, Henry Kissinger. Peter Kornbluh, who spearheaded the effort to declassify more than 20,000 secret documents that revealed the role of the CIA and the White House in the Chilean coup, discusses how Nixon and Kissinger backed the Chilean military's ouster of Allende and then offered critical support as it committed atrocities to cement its newfound rule. Kornbluh is author of the newly updated book, "The Pinochet File: A Declassified Dossier on Atrocity and Accountability," and director of the Chile Documentation Project at the National Security Archive. We're also joined by Juan Garcés, a former personal advisor to Allende who later led the successful legal effort to arrest and prosecute coup leader Augusto Pinochet.

But here Scott Reinard and others were referring to the rest of the Hegelian tactics to put communist here and there to later killing them to follow Monroeist and Mackinderian machinations for extending the life of artificial economic schemes like Bretton Woods, without which, the US with 13,6 million industrial population would not last one day without selling its petro dollars. Machinations in which Kissinger was very active, just like in the ones like Agenda 21 for "sustainability", Malthusian codeword for depopulation. We the Catholics oppose to those evil policies!

Jailing him would set a precedent that high figures in government can't commit war crimes and get away with it. The arrest and trial of Pinochet set a new precedent that dictators aren't immune from the law, and this would have an even bigger impact then that. What's more it would provide at least a minor sense of justice for the vast amounts of victims of Kissenger's imperialism and murder

Not really for the second point, Hitler’s fascist economy was centered around war which led Germany to complete destruction and occupation. Today’s Germany economic prosperity comes from allied western power liberal capitalist influence in rebuilding the country. Germany is centered around the market, not war anymore :)

Guys, please take the extra 15 minutes to transcribe the tape and put up some subtitles. I've had to "backtrack" a few times to get it all. If I were listening "live" I don't think I could have understood it in one go. That said, it's fascinating stuff. Thanks for sharing it.

@@monk1808 Friedman benefited from the coup after which a group of economists he had previously trained in Chile and Chicago called the Chicago boys gained access to the Chilean government's economic department (in the frame of a US program that aimed at influencing foreign economics including in Chile) to implement neoliberal policies under Friedman's personal recommendations to Pinochet.

Amazing recollections of Kissinger's role in causing murder and mayhem everywhere. We in India remember the genocide he supported in East Pakistan and later the murder of the whole family of it's "democratically elected president." The Allende coup sounds, very much like what his pupils did in Kyiv in 2014, after which they used NATO countries to train and arm the neo-Nasties who then started a genocide against Russian speaking Ukrainians in the Eastern oblasts -- to what purpose? To hurt a Russian state that isn't even Communist anymore??!!

Socialism and authoritarianism are intrinsically opposite of each other. All one has to do is read about both of them and that becomes more than just clear, it's painfully obvious. Just because authoritarians *and* capitalists lie, doesn't automatically mean whatever crazy BS they spout at us is the truth.

@@aylbdrmadison1051 Tell me then, how do socialists deal with people who don't agree with their policies, taxes, regulations and asset seizures they tend force onto others? I have read about both and am not lying. Capitalism is more so lied about by socialists, so how about that? Nothing in capitalism, says anybody else has to give up property, taxes or follow regulations in place by others. It leaves people free (not authoritarian) to decide how to conduct themselves, not some state or collective (which would be acting as a state). Capitalism supports individualism and voluntary economics. Socialism HAS TO be forced on at least some people in some way, that is authoritarian. There is no way around that.

@@7prudent Authoritarianism is force, forcing people to comply with things not in their interest. Doing so on "behalf of the collective" is socialism. If I made a pizza and the government swooped in and said, I am taking the slices, redistributing them and letting you keep 1 or two slices... also, claims ownership of the oven it was made from and creates rules on how to use it, and how to make pizza: That's both authoritarian and socialism in practice, just replace pizza with money and the oven with (personal) business.
