In this video I will show you how to make a really simple jig to hold letter and number punches so your mark is straight and true.
I wanted to use these punches to leave a "Maker's Mark" and needed a way to stamp complex words consistently and straight.
The jig is very simple to make just using basic tools and a must have companion for your letter and number punch sets.

That's very cool. Simple, practical concept and getting the views too!

Wow, you are really catching up on my past projects James. This happens to be one of my most popular videos and i am going to make a version 2 that takes different size stamps. Fill that niche. haha.

@@Saw-IT gotta double down... it works. Two of my most popular videos are on setting up the Kreg Accu-Cut and SEG. So last month I did a video comparing them and sure enough it is doing very well too. I am a shift worker, on nights we are often quiet so I watch a lot of Tubes so when I find a new Aussie channel to watch I tend to binge a lot :P

Good to hear the content is bingeable haha. You have got to love making videos to be in this job and it's amazing looking back to see how the content evolves and gets better.

@@Saw-IT for sure! My first videos are terrible. I'm sure I'll think the same of my current ones in a few years 😅

Nice! A steel jig that does that job will cost a few hundred dollars in the USA. Bravo my friend. Well done.

Thanks Jett ! Jeffrey down below gave me an idea for a better one that will work with different size letters. Definitely going to make that as soon as possible.

Very useful video! Always find when trying to stamp metal the letters don't come out well even when using a fair bit of force. Why is this?

That's an awesome jig friend! I'm here researching jigs I can make for the girlfriend as she does some infrequent stamping for jewelry she sells on Etsy. Only problem for me is that, based on the size of the jewelry, she uses smaller letters on similar sized shafts. Copying yours would yield the same center-to-center letter spacing, but with significantly smaller letters. It seems like my jig is going to have to need work holding (or maybe just indexing), and be a single-stamp-at-a-time jig, with a way to index each stamp. I'll come up with something, but I'm open to any tips if you happen to see this and you've already figured it out. Thanks a top-notch bench too!!I'm a great handtool restorer, and lately a novice handtool woodworker since i started restoring hand-planes, chisels, spokeshaves, etc. Basically I'm looking to make this out of mainly wood, cooper or brass sheet, and polymer clay (since she's an expert there) just for context. Great video man, hope more people find your channel!

Thanks, I can see the problem. With this design it might work if you also make some spacers. I.e if the letters are 2mm, you might use a 3mm spacer to move the punch to the next position. But it seems like the pros do it free hand so that means a lot of practice to get it straight. This really nice lady uses a ruler to index the letters. I would use a metal ruler if i could instead. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lGukmwsXIAA.html My ultimate goal is to get my name made on a single stamp so just need to hit it once, I am also researching how to etch a logo on my blades, And I am really seriously considering getting a CNC laser cutter to do engraving, I even have some big MP cattle brands to play with so ,

Interesting that Zenith made televisions and it’s the same logo 😂. I like the punch jigs where it’s a rectangular frame with a wing nut bolt on each corner. That way it can move and size to 3mm or 6mm or whatever size punches being used. Just fold it onto the punches and crank down the nuts.

Brilliant, thankyou Jeffrey, that is a better design for sure. On your idea I just bought another set of punches to try it. This video is one of my most popular and i recon i can make that better too so it's a worth while project for sure.
