Interesting. I would probably have pulled it into Davinci, duplicated the video track, shift one left and the other right, then just slice and delete chunks from whichever is the top layer whenever I want to switch sides. This would be a good pattern if you wanted to record the interview in vertical though. You could easily adapt this set up to switch between a left scene and a right scene during the initial recording, either with a hand-held remote if you're on-camera or just manually if you're not.
