This is an update video for what I believe is the best choice right now for making your surround sound speakers wireless or convert your existing speakers to make them wireless.. My last video showcased the Amphony but this new Dynasty ProAudio WSA-5RP unit takes it to a whole new level. This kit can also be used for making your subwoofer wireless.
If you want to convert wired home theatre speakers to wireless, this is how you do it.

Hope my findings help someone, this was the most helpful video for me so passing on my findings here to see what others think: I wasn't ready to run wires down into the basement and up to the back walls for rear/back surrounds yet. I kept imagining a product like this and one day I came across this one. Looks well made, decent amp, good reviews. It works! I'm enjoying it but wanted to write this review right away so people understand some of the tradeoffs I've seen with some of the comments/guidance I've seen especially for someone that doesn't watch movies very loud, I'm usually between -25db and -35 db. So firstly, a few reviews/comments mentioned to ignore the out of phase report my receiver was giving. I found this caused some weird imaging issues, I especially noticed it when switching to all channel stereo, i was distinctly hearing the front speakers separate from the surrounds these were powering. After a couple of days i switched polarity of my cables connected to the dynasty amp, so red to black and black to red and my receiver stopped complaining about out of phase issue and also all speaker stereo was now creating one enveloping soundstage across front and rears. Note that I don't really listen to content this way, it is just a way i test how well they blend together. Second thing I noticed, a lot of reviews/feedback said setting the dynasty amp side volume too low can cause clipping/popping if you receiver is jacking up the volume too much on the input side. I understand this but ran into issues following this too closely. Initially speakers I used were inefficient Micca Covo-s with impedance of 4ish ohms. I set the volume knob on the dynasty the first time to around 90% and my receiver set the db down to -4db. This worked well and the speakers sounded pretty good especially since i had them decently close to ear level. I then got some fluance bipole speakers and mounted these 2 feet above ear height, reran calibration and receiver set them to -7db since they are more efficient. This did not sound good, speakers wouldn't kick on unless i increased the volume to wake them up and then lower it, and there were no dynamics, no whizzing of bullets. Today, I went and adjusted the dynasty volume knob to say 60% and reran room calibration and now receiver set it to +3db during calibration. Oh my, sound is amazing now, tested it with ghost in a shell and bladerunner 2049 and i can feel the ambience and effects way better even at -30db listening volume. So here is my 2 cents, if you listen at lower volumes and have a low chance of overpowering the transmitter dynasty and clipping then try setting the volume to a more moderate level (this also makes sense since with class D amps if you go too high i've found you can distort), so by having the receiver sending a stronger signal to the dynasty it is getting more "information/resolution" to work with, and then your class D amp at the other end is working less. So once again, this is because I listen at lower levels. If i were listening at higher volumes then i'd probably want to bring the +3db on my receiver closer to 0db or -1db by setting the dynasty a little higher on the volume. Now this is working much better and with the +3db as opposed to the -7db my receiver is feeding it I think it seems to be kicking on/waking up easier. Hope this helps someone!
@MakeLifeClick
@MakeLifeClick 2 года назад
Wow - thanks for sharing! It's not a prosumer device for sure but I love mine and don't have issues with clipping, distortion or drop outs. I don't play it at very high levels as some might. My hearing is precious as it is after too many years standing in front of amplifiers. ;)
@MrNorcal81

I tried reversing the speaker's leads to avoid the phase errors that Audyssey always indicates. At first I liked the overall sound coming from my rear heights but after a while, something didn't seem right so i switched the leads back and ran Audyssey , ingnored the phase errors and my perception was that the sound was fuller. A tip that I found in an Amazon review of the kit was that if you get some popping, make sure that the receiver's power supply is plugged into a regular wall outlet and not a surge protector with other devices plugged into it. I did that most of the pops that I would get periodically disappeared.
@AnthonyPerez
@AnthonyPerez Год назад
No idea what is going on here but I’ll tell you that popping is going to drive me nuts. I noticed this when volume is louder but it seems to still do it when it soft just can’t hear it as bad. I have it set to about 60% and have the Yamaha do the signal test. That’s it. Not sure what to make of it. Does the receiver need to have it set lower from what it wants? Why the popping. Thanks for the comment that you provided.

Thank you for the information. I have a big question. Will this transmitter deliver the 'front end sound' (main audio containing the people talking/not background sounds) to the rear speakers. I am trying to help elderly people with hearing loss hear the people speaking on the television (they refuse to wear hearing aids, much less headphones. If this system can put the speaking content on speakers that are located near the medical lyft chair; this would solve the problems we are having. Thank you for posting this video. Depends on what AV receiver using with the Dynasty WSA-5RP set, from my experience, if you set the audio playback output to the 2.1 (or stereo )mode on the TV (not 5.1), your AV receiver should sending the “front/center” sound signal to the rear surround speakers output, then the Dynasty will also playback the frond/center sound

I have a pair of powered Bluetooth speakers that I would love to use as rear surround speakers. My surround receiver has low level (i.e. RCA) rear outputs that I would like to connect to a Bluetooth (transmitter of some sort?) that in theory would send the rear surround signal to the powered Bluetooth speakers. I feel like this would be the ultimate solution because the Bluetooth receivers and amplifiers are already built into the rear speakers; leaving only one power cord per speaker left to deal with ... which is easy enough to find an outlet and hide the wire. My receiver actually accommodates this ... in a sense ... however, they've managed to make the Bluetooth output for surround sound, only visible to two different Yamaha Bluetooth speakers that 1. cost $400/ea (so $800 for the pair) and 2. have been on backorder for almost two years now. Any thoughts how I can circumvent Yamaha's proprietary shananigans and convert the rear out to a Bluetooth signal that my powered Bluetooth speakers could utilize? I currently have a Yamaha Aventage RXA-1080 receiver and I am trying to utilize Edifier R1280DB powered Bluetooth bookshelf speakers for rear surround. Thank you in advance for any insights you might have. Cheers!

Picked up a pair but, similar to RocketFish in amplifier noise coming out of the speakers. The higher the volume on the rear unit, the louder the constant pshhh noise from speakers. Might be returning since doesn’t really feel like an upgrade. Ive currently got it set to about 60% on rear unit and the surrounds turned up higher on my AV receiver to help lower the hiss. However, not sure if that means I’m losing out on some watts to the speakers? Maybe hook to speakers with 4 ohm instead of 8 or less efficient speakers?

Doing some research, and glad I saw this video. I almost impulse bought the Amphony's. Curious if you or anyone sees this...How does the RocketFish compare? Does it have amps built in? (no Watts listed on site), signal by RF...I'm so confused, would RF work with room correction software?

I haven’t tried the rocket fish but wasn’t encouraged by some of the reviews. Definitely still happy with the Dynasty. I just moved and the situation is not great for my HT. Fireplace with in-set cabinets on either side with no wiring considerations. First, is there anything that will run a center speaker, from a receiver that is on the side in the cabinets (adjacent). I suppose this could but it's pretty pricey for 1 ($100) speaker. Second, do thee need to be in line of sight? Can I close the cabinet door on the receiver?
@MakeLifeClick
@MakeLifeClick 3 года назад
There are some cheaper options. Amphony have a single unit for a single speaker. makelifeclick.com/make-wired-surround-sound-speakers-wireless/ The ability to close the cabinet will be impacted by the number of other signals competing in the space. Most of these work fine without line of sight as they use WiFi. Amphony recommend it but have had mine hidden 6 meters away behind the couch out of sight with no problem. I find this unit has the strongest performance but if your units are next to each other then any would probably do fine. Hope that helps.

If you’re a hardcore HiFi / Home theatre enthusiast that likes to reach ear damaging levels, possibly true. Or, if you are using these for surrounds that are either elevated or at a distance, perhaps. I find these get too loud if I mess up the calibration, which results in my running Audessy…again to balance out. But my surrounds are within 3 meters distance. I have an approximately 24-28 sqm room. For most people, for whom surrounds are ambient noise generators predominantly, you can get a whole lot of volume from 50w.

Thanks for the review.. I had a pair of wired SVS Prime Elevations set as front heights powered by a Denon X3700 AVR but recently added a second pair of Elevations which were mounted as rear heights. Due to Covid and other factors, I wasn't ready to have someone come in do speaker wire runs inside the rear and front walls via the attic. Based on your review and several others, I got the WSA-5RP unit in Black from Amazon to drive the rear Elevations. That it did pretty effectively. There are, however, some oddities when I run Audyessy. The first is phase error warnings but they are false and can be ignored. The second is the distance setting for rear heights which comes in at 20 feet which seems way off but once the calibration is complete the sound seems to be fine. I also get an occasional pop but never when there's an active program/movies running. I'll eventually have the wires to the rear heights run but, in the meantime ProAudio unit is more than a decent solution.

Thank you for your review - after writing my comments below it sounds critical but they are actually well intended - I enjoyed your presentation - so wanted to add this preface. I was a little disappointed there was no actual demo of them - even though the received audio for the viewer/listener would have been through whatever local device they had! But it would have at least given some perception of quality/distortion/volume. My concern is the available power on the receiver amp - The amps are rated 50W, sure but this is at 4 ohms - most speakers are more commonly 8 ohms, so only 25W available for those. I think I heard Fluance BiPolar which, when I look them up, would be 8 ohms; so 25W max into these out of the Dynasty. Also you mentioned 80W (?? not sure where that would come from) at ~5.20 in - but 8 ohms "no problem" - but that would certainly be 25W there; (think you might be a bit confused over the power vs impedance thing) I suspect you are likely under-driving those Fluance but you did say happy with the sound, so that is what matters I do love the fact that these have the speaker level inputs - again not to nitpick, but constructive input for both you and your viewers, 12ga is not at all necessary for the input - there is very low power going in there, not like a true speaker level current into 8 ohms. So especially with those type of terminals, small gauge wire would be fine. (I could also argue that 12 ga is WAY overkill even for the output at only 25W and 16 ga is good for about 48′ and given that you are using this system in the first place, I suspect is only a fraction of that) So I’m still on the fence - unfortunately my Marantz amp has no pre-outs for the surrounds, so need speaker level input; so it’s either this set with the limited power out, or go with the non-amp version which then would require an additional line-output-converter for input plus an amp for the speakers (or powered speakers which reduces the options further.)

Hi! Thanks for the question. It's a good one. There is still the Amphony (amzn.to/38nZJR7) which, if your house isn't crowded with a barrage of other WiFi signals is a good unit. It lasted 3 years in my house and then one of the units started to pop which might have been the introduction of another device in the house. It has a separate rear unit for each speaker making it easier to place and is up to 80 watts. I would not have started looking for a new product - it served me well. It's really the best choice in that space as the other option is the Rocketfish is also a single rear unit. makelifeclick.com/make-wired-surround-sound-speakers-wireless/ Keep in mind it's designed for speakers needing to be powered. Excellent review that made me buy it. I’m in the UK and - apart from the high import taxes - ordering directly from Dynasty Proaudio was quick and easy. The unit works really well and simply requires the usual plug adapters to work in the UK. No problem with different electricity standards. It also worked well even though it is placed behind the the centre speaker (which is in a unit) and behind a sofa - so literal line of sight is not required. Total distance is about 4 metres. The main reason to hide is the blue light is bright! Not something I really want to see when watching a movie. The supplied speaker cables are incredibly basic. They would undoubtably do the job but I replaced them. Banana plugs on everything except the transmitter - no idea why. I’m not sure what standby is like, because my rear speakers are constantly making a super low level noise, so they never lower off. You can only hear it if you put your ear right up to the speaker and the rest of the house is silent, so not an issue per say. Just a bit annoying. I switch the units off at the wall when not in use anyway. Also, like others have said when running calibration software it says the polarity is reversed when it is not. All in all super pleased with them and much better than finding a way to get wires to the back of the room.

I think two pairs of these wireless devices would be needed for my situation. I have a rear surround left speaker and a rear surround right speaker. I don’t want to try to run wires from the front of the room to the back of the room, across doorways. Also, I don’t want to run wires across the back of the room from the rear surround left speaker to the rear surround right speaker. I assume that an electrical outlet will be needed near the rear surround left speaker and an electrical outlet near the rear surround right speaker. The device seems to have a built in audio amplifier for the conventional wires speakers. Can the volume be controlled with the rest of the system? Or, does the volume have to be adjusted at each of the rear surround speakers, in addition to the main volume control?
@MakeLifeClick
@MakeLifeClick 3 года назад
Correct. If you don't want to run wires between the two surround speakers at the back then you will need to run two of these units. You could buy the single Amphony unit (link below) but I think these out perform and won't disappoint. makelifeclick.com/make-wired-surround-sound-speakers-wireless/ You will need a power outlet at each. This does have a built in amp for passive wired speakers. Volume is set on the unit and doesn't need to be touched again. I set the Dynasty ProAudio volume at about 1 o'clock on the dial, then run my Audyssey calibration on my Denon x4500h. The volume on the surrounds is controlled with the main audio volume. Turn up the sound on your movie or music and all the speakers - wired or wireless - react the same. So no need to ever touch the wireless ProAudio units after they are set up the first time. I'll add that info about volume to the main post as others have asked. makelifeclick.com/dynasty-proaudio-wsa5rp-wireless-surround-sound-review/ Hope that helps!
