Automotive paint stores sell actual 2K automotive grade clear coat in a rattle can. You take the top off, flip it over, put it on the bottom and smash it down. This breaks a container of hardener inside and you can spray away. It will only work for about 24 hours so it's pretty much a one shot deal , but it's the same paint you are using but in a much smaller quantity. Just FYI.

Thanks for the suggestion, I have seen it and been thinking about doing video on it. Its hard to beat how well an actual paint gun atomizes the paint, so I would be curious how an aerosol can does. I'm sure that video is in my future.

This channel is off to a great start. If you keep up with content of this class I'm sure it'll grow quickly. Personally I use an airbrush to spray 2k. I'd love to move up to a proper gun but living in an apartment with the only option being to use the balcony for three months out of the year, it makes things a bit more complicated to say the least.

This was a very good and informative video. You did a fantastic job on that helmet and explaining everything. I was an auto mechanic for 28 years and a aircraft mechanic for 18. I watch a lot of these videos with "professional" painters and they don't do as good as you explaining. The thing I really like is your using gloves! I've watched and commented many on many videos after seeing them rub their bare hands on whatever they're working on. Even with "washed" hands there's still body oil on them that could cause problems in the paint. Thank you for a very good video.

Just recently stumbled onto your channel and I agree with the other comments - this is great information explained very well. Out of curiosity, what PSI are you shooting your clear at? Everyone I've ever talked to about it has a different answer, so I'm curious to see where you're at.
@TheLastLayer111
@TheLastLayer111 Месяц назад
With the gun I'm using, I run it at about 35psi. Some people run it a lot lower, others even higher. The gun I'm using is NOT an HVLP. its a Sata RP. so it likes it at about 35. But I am going to do a video soon (hopefully this weekend) on using lower cost LVLP, that would be a great candidate for working in a home garage. You really just need to find what works best for you and your technique.

As PPE is sooper important (I think). Is the Respirator the only clean air solution you have? Whats the ventilation solution like? Is it only a box fan I hear? Im not asking that you open your garage door cause there is really no reason and maybe you have nosy neighbors or your its no bodies business where you are. Im cool with that and there is no need. Its just that your garage has REALLY good lighting and not many people have such a big space and Im thinking that it can be difficult to get such good coats without big even sweeping motions and a giant PSI through put? (I don't know what it would be called) Although I have worked with that type of Hose before and it aint no joke. So yeah I mean I guess it would be good to see how a smaller set up would work. I know there are a few "portable Paint Booth" setups on here even ones that use 3d prints. Cheers thanks for the info and look forward to your next vids.
@TheLastLayer111
@TheLastLayer111 Месяц назад
Yes, you are correct, PPE is extremely important, also you DO need good ventilation, more so cross, ventilation which helps to clear the overspray. I realize everyone may not have a huge area to do it in, but most garages I have worked in you can get good cross circulation, if you take a minute to pre plan. Years ago, I used to spray outside. It wasn't as bad as you would think, Yes there was some possibility of dirt and possibly a bug, but 2K clear flashes relatively fast, so it wasn't like the clear was wet and tacky for hours outside. I just posted a new video, using a small portable compressor and a budget spray gun, I am very happy with how the piece came out. So in my opinion, it can be done without a crazy setup.

Typically I run the the spray gun Full fan, with the fluid needle set all the way open and PSI at 30-35 on the regulator. I cover these setting more thoroughly in the latest video I made using the Drizzle D1. the biggest difference between how I ran the Drizzle and how I ran the spray gun in this video, is the needle setting. @TheLastLayer111
@TheLastLayer111 Месяц назад
absolutely, I will be putting more videos on the spray setup shortly. Mix the clear all at once. The flash time is quick on the clear but the "pot life" is much longer. Pour it all in the spray gun, don't worry, it wont dry and you don't need to clean the gun between coats. Have fun

Because most of this is 2K Part, the shelf life is typically much longer. I have had some high build primers that I still use for 10 years. Now that's not to say it will all last that long, but in my experience, it just lasts longer.

@@DatFunnyPerson every spray gun is a little different, and I sometimes feather the spray trigger. play with it, and figure out what pressure and flow works best for you. @@maurice0822 Well.. that's a good question. It really depends on what type of paint you are spraying and what type of spray gun you are using. Typically I do a base coat/clear coat process. No mixing between coats, the clear has a longer pot life, than its flash time. meaning the stuff you spray dries much faster than the stuff in the cup.
