I've been making chrome EVA foam armor using Leatherette for quite some time and I just wanted to share how I do it! This has been a highly requested tutorial over the years actually. The footage of the first tutorial I shot a couple months ago was lost for some reason so I had to film another one from the ground up. I'm very happy to finally finish this video and share this knowledge to you guys!

Can I add something? :) In 6:34, you don't actually need to cut this much on curved areas before wrapping, you can cut it when you feel you really need to loosen the tension to wrap successfully. If you cut too much, your cut marks will show on the edges and it will even affect the look on other angles. :)

Also in 6:49, some makers will even cut away the parts where you folded in and just leave the edges stuck on the foam. It could make your edges even cleaner!

Hi Gelo! Great video! Do you know if the chrome leatherette would work on 3D objects? Meaning would the leatherette form nicely around the 3D object?

Great tutorial! It spurred me to search for this material. I found a few sources using the German term Lackleder, and later using the English term faux leather gold which lead to a few places that might be the same stuff. Perhaps this helps you in finding online sources? :) Also please wear gloves with your glue. We need good instructors like you!

Can you use this to make embossed designs in the armor? Does it have enough "give" to be forced into grooves and such?

I tried this before and yes it can but with careful stretching! It's hard to explain but if you stretch it correctly it can go into the crevices but not all compound curves

Is the leatherette considered stretchy or is it more stiff?

The leatherette I got is definitely stiff, much like couch or car leather interiors :)

May I know how you made the body armor of Artoria Lancer?

The body armor is on 2 parts the inner armor and the front plate. The inner I taped a mannequin to make templates and eyeballed the templates for the front plate! I'm planning to find a way to have my templates available for purchase and download :)

Also , do you live here in the philippines? If so you can try looking at Ping Ping's in Marikina. i got some of my leathers there, specifically the gunmetal one. If you put it on wayze you should be able to find it!

No worries!! As for the vinyl I had to get it in Marikina at Joaquin Shoe supply near the Palenke but now with the pandemic I suggest you ask EEGM marketing on their Facebook page :) I might check shopee for this soon tho hehehe
