Practically every electric violinist in the world has wanted to make their electric violin sound like an acoustic. In this video, Matt talks about some exciting new technologies that can do exactly that. We discuss impulse responses, tone matching, reverb, and EQ. We talk about the Fiddlicator app, the Mooer Radar pedal, the Line 6 Helix, the Fractal, the vSound, and the Fishman Aura.

By far the most informative video out there as far as describing and comparing impulse response and tone matching tech for bowed strings!! Great info Matt, thanks! Maybe put the terms IR and Tone Matching in the description and/or title so more interested people can find this awesome resource!

For what it’s worth, Impulse response and frequency response are two sides of the same coin. The Fourier Transform converts one to the other. So if you had an impulse response you liked, that could be transformed to a (very complicated) EQ formula. If the Fishman box has enough frequency taps, it could do the same thing as an IR convolver.

Electric Violin Shop This would allow me to emulate that Stradivarius sound without worrying about the Acoustic violin getting scratched. There are Acoustic-electric Violins too.

FYI, with the Fiddlicator in-app purchase, you can use IRS up to 1.4 seconds (as I recall). That would allow both instrument IR with a huge room reverb IR. IR wav files are available from Sigma Audio for pretty reasonable $$

Good day! Thanks for very useful video! You are the MAN! I wonder if I can use "Vsound 2 Impulse Response Pedal by Signal Wizard Systems" through the Boss GT 100? Thanks in advance!

Absolutely. Just place it in front of the GT-100 in your signal chain. If you bypass the GT-100 you'll have the acoustic tone from your Vsound 2 (we recommend something like a 50/50 mix of wet/dry signal in the Vsound); if using effects in the GT-100 you'll also like the color and character that the Vsound adds to your effects. Great combo!

Electric Violin Shop Of course let's hear Mozart's 5th Violin Concerto played on a 5 String Cello (Solo Violin part played 8vb on a 5 String Cello).

What happens if you put the Fishman in front of the Vsound?

Haven't really played too much with that. Though, if you wanted a "multi-violin" sound, you might run them in parallel with a tiny bit of delay.

Electric Violin Shop Why would you need to get an Acoustic Sound out of an Electric Violin occasionally?
