Fantastic video! Cause these past few days, I had already been wondering how to put all these files on my living room PC for retro gaming! Just gotta get me one of these USB 128 GB drives!
Mega Thanks ETA Prime!!! I'm getting a GPD Win just for emulators and Big Box now I can get started on my micro sd and have it ready when the GPD gets here in a few weeks. :)
There's a higher probability your usb will fail if your gaming straight off the USB with intensive games as the USB will get hot and fry itself... ive experienced this myself in the past. If you can move to an 2.5 ssd or portable ssd then that'd be the best option. If you need more storage than what's available on ssd like 8tb or more then moving to hdd is really your only option.
Is there any easy way for launchbox to move rom files to its own folder after i've already set things up? I'd love to put launchbox with all my roms on a USB but i didnt feel like moving hundreds of GB's at the time i installed launchbox so i just left the roms in the folders i already had. removing and adding them again would mean i have to download the boxart and videos again.
What's the optimal cluster size for a Launchbox Drive? The default 4KB it's suboptimal since there are a lot of files smaller than 4KB, you'll waste a lot of space using that.
Great video I have a question my launchbox is on my C drive how can I transfer it to an external drive? I have tried before but when I open launch box none of the games are there and It wanted me to add everything all over again
I've been trying to open LaunchBox for a few days now, but can't. The loading window appears and goes until "loading interface" appears, then it disappears and nothing happens. Can anyone help me?
While other emulators could pose an issue, RetroArch is self-contained and portable. Just have to make sure you have it located in a relative path to your LaunchBox folder. Even better if it was located somewhere inside of your LaunchBox folder.
I moved Launchbox to my external, but if I plug it in a new computer the hard drive gets a new letter, like in my home pc it's D in the explorer, but once I change to a new pc it gets to J and launchbox tells me it can't find a game if I want to start it
This works but some stuff seems off. Like running ps1 it can’t find the bios on another computer. Like the emulators looking in the wrong path.. tried even changing the drive letter to Match. Still dint work.
here's a dumb question - how do you set this up to run off two different roots in the Launchbox settings? Originally it was on your C:/, so wouldn't all the aims be pointed toward that? What can I do so I can just put my build on all 3 of my PCs? Cause everyone time I move it - I have to redo EVERYTHING because it the drive root is wrong.
i have an g2 portable 640 gb with wii games on it that i love and now my wii broke without to fix it and now i want to see what in this. but when i try to connect it to my pc its says that i need to format this disc. but i dont want to do that because in it there some games that i love. so am i need to format this disc or not?
Yes, during installation LaunchBox will attempt to install both DirectX and the version of .NET required. However, this video is showing how to make LaunchBox portable so it can run on other machines without the need to run through the installer.
I have the GPD Win 2 on preorder that should come in mid May. However, I’d like to start messing around with Launchbox on my work pc. My work pc runs windows 7, while the GPD runs Windows 10. Would the transition be easy? Or am I better off just waiting?
Great video again. One question, if i have the rom folder and the artwork folder on another location on my pc, how can i do this? Is there an extra step i must follow?
Yes, that can definitely complicate matters. Just remember that both games and emulators are pointing to a specific file path. If that path changes, then LaunchBox will be unable to find them, causing errors. If you'd want to get specific to your situation, I'd recommend getting help over on our community forums: forums.launchbox-app.com/
It took me a month to download an extract and now when I click on launch box exe it says initializing and then closes. Anyone else have this problem or can they help
Hi, since i've put my folder on an external hard drive (NTFS), when i launch a game i've got the sound but no images (I tried with NES and Genesis so far), any idea please ?
The program is great. Just sucks I am too poor this month for a forever-updates license and don't use it as much as i would like. I do still use LaunchBox when I do use it. When I am finally able to get a forever-updates license I will probably use it more.
I heard you say you had RetroArch, but I never saw a folder named that in your video. I have seen in some video where retroarch is actually one of the emulator choices within LaunchBox. I'm thinking you did that with this install - am I right? I saw one LB video where they installed RA first and then LB,, but then RA wouldn't be in the LB folder that you dragged over. Which should we do; install RA first or install LB and then choose it within LB? The problem is, I can't find a FAQ anywhere. Watching all these videos, I can't even tell what step A, step B etc. is anymore because this has evolved over two years.
@@thecroeffect I posted that four years ago. Now you just go Tools / Manage / RetroArch / Install BTW, Update is easier as well because it's right there also.
I probably need to extend this solution by adding joytokey, gamepad drivers, lightgun drivers, etc. but this video is a great nudge in the right direction. I wonder if there's an easy way to set relative addresses for save files and such in the emulators, or if they require absolute addresses..
mGBA, Higan and FCEUX all let you change their save file directories, and you can place a file named "Portable.txt" in Dolphin's folder, and it'll keep all its user files inside the same folder.
Hey ETA or Unbroken... I have an 8TB WD BLACK external drive that i would like to use for my launch box build, What should system do you recommend I use to format? exFAT or NTSC? Thanks.
exFat is more compatible - doesn't have the annoying MS security on it... exFat allows files larger than 4GB as well... NTFS is just annoying and poorly implemented as a file system... it constantly has to "touch" every file to apply security to it... just use exFat, a lot of USB sticks come preformmated anyways with exFat... unless they are smaller then FAT32 but exFat these days is better...
I am the ROM hoarder that you are speaking of. Because of that, my computer is quite full. Am I able to transfer everything in my LaunchBox over to that USB Drive to clear up space on my personal computer and still be able to run Launchbox on that same computer with no issues?
Very well for me. Any issue that was on mobile becomes almost non existent on pc. Gamecube, wii, ps2, psp all run great. Been wondering if pcsx2 runs psx games since the system being emulated was backwards compatable. Drastic ds works great for ds games when using a controller. Once im finshed with those 4 which will probably be a very long time ill move on to dreamcast. Sometimes they all arnt needed it drives me nuts to wonder if i play resident evil 4 on ps2 will it look better than gamecube or code veronica look better on ps2, dreamcast, or gamecube. Besides all that i just wonder how do you use a portable memory device and bring your actual pc games because alot of those need to be installed unless your a pirate and they all run from a folder with a no cd crack
I'm confused. How did Launchbox work ! Why isn't it looking for files under c Drive since that is where your files were originally? What am I missing? Is your usb stick labled c?
What if I already have most video snaps and images from setting up hyperspin? Will launchbox find them automatically on my pc and just download the missing ones
Is there a way to get Launchbox to transfer all the ROMs from other folders into the Launchbox folder so I don't have to transfer all the roms into my Launchbox folder one by one?
Question. I want to put my collection on my best friends portable HD and let him have it for free because he is such a noob, but I DON"T want him to have my licence to Big Box and Emumovies. I want him to pay for that feture himself and buy his own Bigbox. How do I send it to him without my lifetime licence info?
