Today's R&B artists would shit themselves walking into this studio. This studio will truly test their actual talent. Only the OGs would come in and feel right at home. And may complain that it ain't big enough. His studio is the new Motown Records.

The organic growth of his philosophy is trial and error with vision. Everything he says resonates because the heart of what he says has the weight of experience driven by curiosity and imagination; zero hubris. Respect. This is a man you can trust with your art.

A team is always better than a one man show, cause in a team someone focuses on music writing, someone on recording, someone on mixig etc etc.... the examples are countless out there... but hey once in a while a magnificent talent appears....

I guess that you are a kind of intimidated by watching this video and thereby, I am not agreeing with you. Music as pure art shouldn't rely on the industrial concept of production. That concept should be good for pop chart music and bands, but for solo artist with a specific style sound and vision, a one man show should be better.

just gonna say this as a multi instrumentalist but also a bandleader that it's really great to do totally solo records especially because there's nobody to organise or deal with (as Adrian correctly point out) but also there's a real magic to recording to tape with a live band and everyone's giving it their own flavour and the camaraderie that occurs in those moments... the stress of screwing up a taped take while six of your friends were killing their performances is large but also fun.. so make records both ways :)

Everything Adrian said here rings so true! Would love to hear some all-ribbon mic recording sessions Adrian! That’s my thing for some time now and people come to my “studio” because of that. RCA Variacoustics on overheads for drum set is incredible! Stephen Sank is my mic guru, his father John Sank designed the RCABK 11 thought to be the best ribbon mic of all time. Look him up! He will use original RCA ribbon stock and has all the original tools and knows his stuff!

Wonderful video, great to see you put in such devotion and time. I went through the same attitudes and excuses with musicians, and although not "successful", I built a studio, and recorded all the instruments and vocals on my last CD, with the exception of some keys parts my niece recorded. Thanks for making this! I kind of validates my own situation. Sincerely, Joe Logsdon, RU-vid.

Just my perspective, I think being able to have "technology" is a great thing too, just because you have unlimited takes, doesn't mean you have to. I have this song that me and my production partner initially put together as a demo for another singer, and my production partner recorded scratch vocals, and they were not perfect at all, because that wasn't the intent since someone else was going to be singing that song. I thought instead of letting the song just sit and not be used, I remixed it and remastered it, and I released that song on my current album, and although not perfect people still like how the song came out, and others not so much, but if you do the best you can do, be it analog or digital or both, ride the process out sometimes, you never know what may happen. The point is, you can have all the bells and whistles and not have to go in with a a microscope all the time. Either way it goes, the end consumer weather it's perfect or not, are always gonna have something to say. We know that we can always do better, right? Everybody sees the same piece of art differently, and at that point, just let it be what it is going to be. I had to learn that myself mixing and mastering things for my company, because like Adrian said, you gonna hear things different than that mixing/mastering engineer. Learn the tools, it's not gonna be perfect all the time. I took band in middle school and high school, never ever even thought about being a music producer, never thought about starting a band, never thought about the music entertainment in that fashion or hey I want to do this or that in the music industry, NOT UNTIL 10 years after I graduated did everything else just kinda fall in place. I started my music production/artist management journey in 2002 because of one of my best friends asked me how I felt about starting a company with him, and everything was learned as I went, there was no tutorials, I am self taught as well, we all have our own paths to the music, just as long as we stick with it, that's the important thing.
