You can lock the TX under the rode videomic NTG without any accessories 😅 just slide the microphone a bit forward and there will be the room to clip it under the volume knob
Hi Caleb, I’m sure you have considered this but just in case - instead of making specialist units for each microphone mount, how about making a unit that connects to the shoe mount with a cold shoe on your unit for the microphone to connect too. Yes it will be a bit higher and require more material but it could be truly universal. Always enjoy your content👍👍👍👍👍
Not a bad Idea! The only downside is that I wouldn't feels as comfortable with it being 3D printed. Cold shoes come in all different sizes and I wouldn't want that to not fit or snap!
Love to see functional 3D prints becoming more common. I made something very similar a few months ago on my Videomic NTG to be able to ad a Wireless Go transmitter and it works perfectly. Need more of this in the camera scene.
Thank you guys for all the kind words and feedback! Running a sale 25% off for $12.95 here: camerafoundry.com/products/micback or 3D print your own for $4.95!
Hey Caleb - great design! But... I just purchased the STL files, and encountered an XML error trying to open them with Simplify3D on Windows. I tried Cura v5.3.1 as well, and it crashes when attempting to open the STLs. Haven't tried on my Mac yet. UPDATE: unable to open on MacOS Cura either... (another) UPDATE: Weird! When I downloaded again using the link in the email, it works. Apparently it was just the auto-generated dl link on the order confirmation page that was maybe corrupted.
Definitely getting the NTG. Been a fan of your 3d work since the Shure mic enclosure. You should have an option to have a cold shoe adapter to the mic back that way they can see the receiver display and can reverse it to see the display as well if they are vlogging by just attaching it to the camera hotshoe. Just an idea but thanks again Caleb!
That's exactly what I thought, some cable tie/rubber band shall do the tricks to, unfortunately comments like this will be hidden from the mass as they try to sell the overpriced product 🙄
This guy took rigging to a whole new level, "no product for what I need? weird, but no worries, I'll make it myself " and then proceeds to improve the heck out of the product's usage ! I've been a sub for YEARS now and never get disappointed with your content Caleb, awesome job as always man !
Thank you so much Caleb, you are such a genius and always inspire me to figure out new easy solutions for my setup. Regarding the splitter: Do you know that there is a super minimalistic and small adapter cable made by Rode for this purpose? It is called sc11 and solves all these problems with just one small cable. I use it all the time and it works perfectly.
Hmm, when I plug my Rode VideoMic NTG into my DJI mics, I just get mostly silence with some weird electronic static noise. Tried a few different settings on the mic and couldn't get it to work. Any idea why? Is it because the VideoMic's cord is stereo?
Good ideas . I am working on creating a stereo system with my small Rode mics & a handheld option for those small Rode mics. Nice presentation & skills on show. Thanks
I've thought about using the two Rode Wireless transmitters to rig up a stereophonic recorder for live music videos, wasn't sure what kind of microphones to plug in to the though, I don't think shotguns would capture a wide enough soundstage though, unless you're quite far back from the band.
What's the best reliable wireless lav mic setup? I saw a pretty influential RU-vidr at Computex with a Sennheiser XS Wireless (?) super simple lav plus plug into camera setup. If you're a one-man run and gun (or with an extra set of hands), what's your reliable go to? Love the content on DSLRVS, been watching for years now and your videos have shaped my purchasing err, investment decisions. Keep up the amazing content and when you make it out to Taipei next, drop by!
Hey Caleb what 3d printer do you use/recommend for making camera parts like this? I’ve got tons of ideas I want to make but have no experience with 3d printers.
I'm confused. Isn't there already a spot for this on the underside of the shock mount for the Rode mics? I know there is on the Rode VideoMic NTG. I was just using it the other day. I'm not trying to be negative. I'm genuinely asking
wait a minute, I have been using wireless GO and NTG like this for years...So rode decicded to relaunch the GO system as a seperate product? I am confused
Sounds like the original unit shipped with the accessory screw for mounting. If you purchase just the 3D file, do you have a suggestion for the screw that’s required to mount it? Dimensions and thread count.

I've been doing this for well over a year now. I don't even have an expensive wireless system. I bought the FullAim X5 system for £100 off Amazon and it was so good I bought a second and it sends the recorded audio to my headphones. It all works like a cham, I love it. Now my boom and headphones are completely wireless.
About 20 seconds into this video, is paused it and bought one. I've been doing an ugly DIY version of this for a couple years and have been waiting patiently for someone to come up with this. Thank you!
Hi Caleb! @dslrvideoshooter, how can this be used to pass the audio through the 32bit recorder and into professional cinema camera directly, that have a 3-pin or 5pin xlr input? Do you think that would be possible?
Nice design! I appreciate that it secures to the mount with the preexisting screw. I've wanted to use my ntg and Go ii as a wireless boom for a while, but my work arounds were a bit sketchy (velcro tying the go to the boom). Back when you made the Go case/lock I didn't have my WG II yet, so I decided to snag a couple. I know some people are rallying under the "you don't need it" banner, but I'd be willing to bet that if they've invested any kind of money in camera gear, they've definitely wasted way more than $15-20 on something that didn't actually work the way they intended it to. I know I have 😅. I'll be looking forward to giving them a try, and interested to see what you come out with next. I haven't spent money on RU-vidr products before, but I appreciate you attempting to fix some annoying issues with gear.
Hi Caleb, great video, very informative. But how can I connect my Rode VideoMic GO II to my Saramonic Blink 500 Pro Transmitter? I tried using a TRS to TRRS cable as well as a TRS to TRS cable and none of them seems to be working. Is there a way? Will appreciate any advice.
I cant tell you how long I have been looking for a solution like this. I have tried so many DIY options and nothing worked very well. I ordered one immediately, thanks!
I am going to have to give this a fail. The idea was on point, and nobody wanted this thing to work more than me. I run the zoom system and the timecode system, so the F2-BT is my Zen (along with the F6). I love the RODE NTG Video for its pickup pattern for ambient and backup, and NEVER record to Camera (only my F2 and other recorders as primaries) I am flabbergasted at what I received, for the price (actually the shipping was more than 2 of the units😮). This thing is useless. When you slide it on the RODE Rycote mount, you quickly discover that the flexi-mounts have a recess cleats. So when you slide the plastic bit on… it sits a 1/4” higher than the other. Where is the washer for the front? Where is the compensation for the new rear rise? I bought it specifically for this mic after all…. Did you even test it!? Did you try to put a mic in it after? Mine don’t look like yours mate. In fact… not sure what tomfoolery you did to make them line up… because everything I encountered (on such a simple product) would indicate that that they never did. You could have just done a bottom screw mount and succeeded… what came suggests you drew it up on a computer, sent it to China, and shipped to me without actually using it. How something so simple, and potentially niche useful, ended up so poorly executed is beyond me. I mean you actually asked what Mic specifically and it’s such a bad fail. 😣😣😣😣
Thanks Caleb! Would this work on Deity V Mic D3 (not the Pro)? I have been wanting a hybrid setup for Rode Wireless Go II + On-Cam Mic (V Mic D3) and this seems like the perfect solution
SOMEONE HELP!! So i want to have the videomic ntg mounted to my camera. I also want to have the rode wireless pro on my talents. So if I use the mic back with the splitter thing and attach the receiver to the mic back in theory my audio should work?
Very cool device, and I would like to have one (or two). Unfortunately, I have the wrong kind of mics, a Sennheiser MKE 200 and a Røde Video Micro II. I think it would be possible to make one for those two, a plate that locks in between the top of the hotshoe of the camera and thye locking screw of the mic.
Any suggestions on how to do this setup with an XLR shotgun mic? I have a battery-powered Azden one so it shouldn’t need phantom power, however my receiver gets virtually inaudible levels. Trying to figure out if I need a super specific cable.
Hi Caleb, really interested in this and would have been useful last weekend. Went to order and after filling in the order form on gearfocus (after changing the phone country prefix for the UK), the page didn't proceed and stayed on the address part, two spinning boxes (save address and shipping). Could not proceed further. Can you please look into this? Thanks. Contacted Gearfoucus, and they were very helpful; however, the costs for shipping to the UK are far too high for me. Trying to find a service here that will print one.
I recently purchased the micback for Diety D3 Pro, when I tried to install it I found out that the screw included with the micback needs a special driver that I do not have. The back screw of the Diety D3 Pro is also a security screw and requires a special driver that I do not have. Pretty bumed out right now
I’m running a A7iii on a RS3 mini and I’m using a Rode NTG. Is there a way to wirelessly transmit audio input from the mic to the camera? The mic is not mounted on the camera itself (too heavy).
Hi, too some extent potentially a neat idea BUT.... Surely an on camera mike is generally a compromise unless doing really close 'blog' style shots? For significant sonic improvements it's generally accepted that getting a mike off camera and close to the sound source (eg speaker) is the way to go. An on-camera mike being best for scratch audio, permitting later sync in post for those not yet able to utilise timecode syncing. A solution for something that isn't a material problem for many.... perhaps?
Caleb- I would have purchased this product if the shipping costs didn’t exceed the stated value of the gear. Is there another distribution play to get this product to market? I want one. But $15 for shipping is pretty steep.
Yeah, that's kinda brilliant. Im curious why Rode hasn't already made something like this. Also I think the Smallrig splitter kinda defeats the purpose of this. Like, why not just use the cold shoes on either side at that point?
The product is of great interest. But the shipping costs to Europe are really high. Caleb - Any thoughts on making it more practical for us to purchase to Europe?
I’m trying to decide between 3 options to film a concert in a small theater. I’m not sure if I should just put the wireless pro on the stage and use the built-in mic, or combine it with the videomic go near the stage.
At the end of the video, you say independent levels for each of 2 channels. How would you change the lvls on the camera for each channel rather than the default of both channels being locked together? I have the sony a7s-iii.
These are really cool and a great idea to clean up some rigs, every cord counts! Do you have any ideas on a way or palce to mount one of these on Ronin 4-d? I have long magic arm that works with the tilta top handle but I hate it. Maybe I could mount one of these to a hat...
Amazing! But shipping costs kill this for you :( $40 for shipping to my address in Canada. I'd love to be able to buy the 3d printer file to print at my local library!
Slap a patent on this, buddy. Ive been finding it an annoyance finding a place to clip them. I use two rode ntgs with the Rode Wireless Go on top of my camera using the shock mounts to clip on them - not great, since hitting the button on the transmitter button on them is a chore. I then have two monos working as left and right transmitting to the receiver and due to the splitter cable just picking up one side if directy connected to the camera, I use the output on the reciever with the splittler connected to my h5 zoom using rodes vlxr converters which gives me control of each mic to adjust using the knobs. From there i use the line output on the Zoom to connect to my camera with a buff so theres a synced version recorded onto the camera as well as just an audio recorded to the Zoom.
