Great video, many thanks for taking the time to make it. I don't see any advantage in cutting the round holes and having an insert. Unless you can tell me? Surely it is better to cut a small square hole and have the bolts just tighten up against the stock then there is less play from moving parts.

#1 I love that blade guard. #2 that router, the putting to guide is very nice. I took a lint roller and put sand paper around it to sand inside circles and also took different sides of wood circles, glue them together and made one for my drill press :) All in all your project is very niceeeeeee I like it.

did you build your table saw ? when i first started wood working i mounted my only tool at that time to a piece of ply wood a 7 1/4 saw limits what you can do now i prety much have a full wood shop in my garage and my problem is how to move them arround so casters it will b the only thing i own that is mobile is my table saw

yes. its a simle hand circle saw mounted under the table. but now Im happy to have a good new table saw with a splitting wedge. The self made one was to risky.

i know what you mean what scares me is these work place or guess you would call them portable table saw is the throat plate being so flimsey and large i own a cheap porter cable 10 inch it is sufficient for what i do have 6 inch jointer 14 inch band saw a 12 in thickness plainer and bunch of other goodies looking at a new router just need to talk the wife out of the money

After several failed attempts to make a productive adjustable jig, finally did a RU-vid search and found this. This simple engineering of a simple jig can be quite elusive, yet you sir did an outstanding job on the creation. Very good idea though! My router does not have plunge capability but I've been thinking of ordering a plunge base for it. Hmm.
@MikeFaneros
@MikeFaneros 6 лет назад
Great idea! I may have to do this... Do you think cam bolts would come loose too easy? If not, then you'd just need a simple screw driver to adjust. Or for more ease (so you don't have to hunt for the wrench or screwdriver), maybe a quick release bolt like you'd find on a bike.
@thosa
@thosa 6 лет назад
cam bolds would be a nice try... but I don't know if they're strong enough... if you're rebuilding this, don't put screw heads in the slot. They lose their grip after a while and start to turn. a sliding block would be a better solution.

thank you 😀🖐 It is always difficult to show all the important steps without making the video an hour long. Then people no longer watch the entire video, but start jumping. Then they skip important parts of the video and don't understand it and then ask me. That's why I do some parts faster. In the newer videos I have already dealt with this and tried to show certain parts better and to make text insertions. 😀🖐

Nice video - subbed - i have been trying to think of a way to create/use something like this to cutout an insert with rounded corners (and keep both pieces) for example a cabinet door, but the internal rounded corner is the tricky part as with this jig you just get the square inset slightly. I wondered about creating some corner inserts that fasten with t screws but not sure if the jig would be accurate enough or strong enough. I have also seen a jig where you fasten the router to a point and follow the radius. This was the best idea yet but could be tricky if in the middle of the workpiece unless you made a jig for everyone you cut. Any ideas?
@thosa
@thosa 6 лет назад
good question... To cutout an insert with rounded corners would be a challenge if you want this to be done in one step. I would do this in several steps with different templates. For example a template (quarter circle) with some inches straight for a better alignment. Cutout all corners and use this template or some straight pieces for the lines in between. by the way... I wouldn't make a door with a router out of one piece. The gap between door and front would be way too large. If I want this out of one solid part, I would try this with a jigsaw and make the starting cut with a multi-function tool. Please mail me if you found a better solution :-)

@digoulm
@digoulm 6 лет назад
@thosa
@thosa 6 лет назад
Ja, der Alustreifen quasi als Nut. Loch bohren, Gewinde rein, Senken, Senkkopfschraube rein.
@luciancaliman1617
@luciancaliman1617 6 лет назад

thosa and use longer bolts with correspondingly deeper bores to hold them, then the nuts, washers and spacers won’t work free and get lost?
@thosa
@thosa 6 лет назад
nothing gets lost. The nuts only need 2 turns to push the bolt out of the slot. An optimization would be to use a longer sliding block instead of the bolts. The wood doesn't prevent the bolts from turning for ever.

@thosa

These are both the cheapest machines you could find. The hand circular saw cost 40€, the milling machine 19€. But I strongly advise against building such a table saw yourself. Important safety devices such as splitting wedges are missing. A cheap milling machine can be screwed under the table. This has worked well for me for 3 years now. 🙂🖐

hey 🙂🖐 that's obviously not made for eternity... of course there are also points that can be solved better. for example, the hexagonal bolts begin to overtighten in some places... Welding a threaded rod to a flat bar instead would have been the better solution. But you only know that afterwards 😅👍

Hi. I had no plan for this. Videos with a plan are marked with a "free plan" in the thumbnail. 😀🖐

Nice project, did you think about using wing nut rather then hex nuts? It might save having to use a wrench.
@thosa
@thosa 4 года назад
thank you 😀🖐 the wood was to small for a Wing nut and the Hole to small to get in with at least 2 Fingers to turn the wing nut... but the Idea is good... but all have to be larger for that... 😀👍

Very nice, I like how you can use this for different sized cut outs. A question, what if you made the openings for the nuts bigger and rectangular and used wing nuts? This would eliminate the need for a wrench. Thanks for sharing!
@thosa
@thosa 4 года назад
thank you 😀🖐 yes, that would be an option. But then much thicker material would have to be used and the useful depth would be much smaller. 🤔😀🖐

Did you consider adding a stub tenon to the end that would ride in the T-slot and keep the pieces flat.

Yes, indeed, but I'm haven't done that yet. But very good idea. thank you very much. 😀👍🖐

@thosa
@thosa 6 лет назад
