Great for Vidcon, Comic-Con, School Groups and Self Promotion. This is a great easy and cheap way to do a giveaway or make a gift. The second technique shows reusable vinyl decals you can use for things like bumper stickers or indoor/outdoor promotion.
Reasons to DIY your own vinyl decal stickers? Cost, variety, and the ability for a quick turn around. Make your own bumper stickers at home to promote your business, and make just 1 or 2 instead of 200. You can even make DIY Vinyl lettering without a machine. Just print and cut it out yourself with scissors. Printing on vinyl is fast and easy, and you can make them waterproof and weather proof.

This is great! A few questions- I am looking to make a permanent outdoor sign using the vinyl plus laminate method- will this be waterproof? Also the sign will be fairly large, so you think that will work by printing several sheets to make the large image? Thanks for any thoughts you have on this!
@MakerHighSchool
@MakerHighSchool 4 года назад
I'd suggest using the papillio vinyl and uv spray for a professional sign, but honestly, I've had vinyl banners done at office depot that would be WAY cheaper if you're doing something that big. There are other print places on line you can check out, too. They all change sales every week, so I'm sure you could catch a good one. I hope this helps!

@MakerHighSchool

Well, thank you so much for the compliment! You'd need to use the spray for it to be 100% UV. The laminate will help, but won't prevent long term fading.

Hi! I am new to this. I am making vinyl decals that I hope to put on cars and yeti type mugs. How well do they hold with car washes and dishwashers? I would be using the spray. Would the cling be better for both? Thanks so much! Laurie
@MakerHighSchool
@MakerHighSchool 6 лет назад
For car washes, it should be fine. Dishwashers are another story. You'd need a sealant. They'd be fine for a while, but the jets are way more concentrated, so they'd be going through way more. The same would be true of vinyl stickers from offset printers. You could use something like the dishwasher safe mod podge, but you'd have to cover the entire mug, and it would give it a matte finish. I hope that helps!
@Theoutkastspeaks

Can the first method be used to add decals into resin? And/or can it be covered in mod pod without it looking wet?
@MakerHighSchool

Hmmm.. good question. If you've used mod podge before, you can get the matte version. That will keep it from shining. That might be your best/least shiny option.

i want to print a graphic white vinyl cling but i want to adhere it to the inside of my car window. printable cling seems to all be made for the outside of glass. do you have any suggestions?

They make special film for this but it's expensive. If you aren't adverse to the idea, I'd suggest printing it on the clear cling film, and then taking a piece of white vinyl and sticking it on the back. That way you get the same effect, but WAY cheaper.

@MakerHighSchool
@MakerHighSchool 4 года назад
I have found the spray I talk about in the video is the best for sticker paper, but you can try Mr. SuperClear. It may run, but it depends on the paperstock and inks you use. There's no way to tell if it will work until you give it a test run. Sorry I'm not more helpful. :)

So I am trying to find a method that I can use to put a little extra coating on the sticker to make it weather proof to put on her car. Since I already have the sticker made and laminated can I spray the UV spray on there to make it more dutiable and weather proof? Or do you recommend something different? please help:). Thank you for the video.

This is honestly the best stuff I've found for weatherproofing stickers. It's a big can, so make sure you aren't using it for just one thing. You could also try the dishwasher safe mode podge, but the drawback is you might see brush marks in it. Hope that helps!

You can get clear static / cling film online. Just check to make sure it's made for the type of printer you have (inkjet for example). It usually will tell you in the directions the best settings to use (draft, photo, etc.)

Hi! Love this easy tutorial. I was wondering if by following the 1st idea, will those stickers stick to a tumbler cup & be safe for washing? I want to make bridal tumblers without spending a lot of money on Etsy but I don’t have a cricut.
@MakerHighSchool
@MakerHighSchool 4 года назад
The second method is the best. The laminate from option 1 won't hold up to soaking or the dishwasher, and only a few times by hand If you're only making a few and you're on a tight budget,, you might want to look into dishwasher safe mod podge. Cons: needs a month to cure, sometimes shows brush strokes, really obvious on darker materials. Also, need to make sure you don't apply it anywhere someone might have their lips. Hope that helps?
@MakerHighSchool
@MakerHighSchool 4 года назад
And, as soon as I posted that, I just had a thought. I bet you could get the printable vinyl and then use the mod podge over it as a sealer? Then peel, cut and stick once it's cured? Not 100% sure if it will work, but it might look better. You'd still want to include a note that says hand wash only, but that might be the best of both worlds.

Great Tutorial! Do you know if Vinyl Stickers are dishwasher safe? I want to label Tupperware, lunch containers, Reusable water bottles, etc. I'm looking for something that will stand the test of time....
@MakerHighSchool
@MakerHighSchool 6 лет назад
+LaDay's Corner If you want something that will hold up in the dishwasher, you'd be better off with either silkcreening, or the best option...getting food safe ceramic paint and baking it on. The problem with stickers is that between the heat of the water and the abrasiveness of the detergent, it's made to remove debris, so after a few washes the adhesives will dissolve. You don't want it coming off and clogging the drain in your dishwasher. That would be awful.

Hi there! Just found your channel and I’m obsessed! Literally went down a rabbit hole and thought wait I don’t even own a soldering iron tool yet. Lol. You’re very informative and funny as he//! Of course I’m gonna ask a dumb question but I had my husband go get those Avery DIY Decals from our local office place. We live in small town and they were cheaper than Walmart’s price. Anyhoo, I’ve rewatched this video 4, yes that is four times and I think I got confused a bit. Here’s what I’m trying to do (with nothing but a regular printer and I’ve got a laminator that’s still in the box from 4 years ago...smh I know I’ve got issues) I’d like to make names or something on these decals and stick ‘em on a tumbler or a pen or a notebook and cover it all in resin. Well maybe apply resin then glitter and resin to seal. Then these decals. I guess what I’m trying to understand is do they need to be sealed in any way shape or form? Can I use packing tape? (Did I mention I’m on an extreme budget!??!) Or would I want to use this laminate thing you speak of? (And the self-sealing laminate pouches is same thing or no?) thank you kind lady for your time and help with this (my) issue!! 🥰💕🌸🦋

Wowzers! Lol. Sorry for taking so long to respond. I'm writing outlines for a new batch of videos, so falling behind on my responses I think I understand what you're saying. To clarify would the stickers also be covered in resin, or just temporarily stuck to the outside? If I don't respond, it's because YT didn't ping me that you replied. I have a fb Twitter and Instagram you can bug me at if you don't get a response. 👍
@allijmccoy

@@MakerHighSchool the stickers would be under the resin. Well I think they would need to be. But I’ve seen different techniques in dealing stickers and glitter paper prior to resin. One used packing tape. And I forgot the other methods. Maybe I should just try to resin a coaster before jumping into the big pool. Lol
@MakerHighSchool
@MakerHighSchool 3 года назад
@@allijmccoy my best, cheapest suggestion is to seal it with matte mod podge. The problem with the tape is it may bubble if the temps change too quickly too often. You can usually find a small tube of it for $1 at Dollar tree, and sometimes in the target dollar bins. Hope that helps!

So are both options safe to use on a vehicle? The sticker won’t get damaged?
@MakerHighSchool
@MakerHighSchool 5 лет назад
Because of the different temps and possible window condensation, I'd say the vinyl is the better choice with the UV coating. Hope that helps.

Hello I want to make some stickers to customize disposable plastic cups for my sons birthday.. the cups would be for kids drinks.. I'm not very crafty but id like to try..can u tell me which option might work best for me
@MakerHighSchool
@MakerHighSchool 6 лет назад
Honestly, which ever option is cheapest. I don't know how many cups you are making, so if it's less than 10, I'd say with the shelf liner. If you're looking at like 100+, then ordering them online is probably the best time / money saver since you'll have other stuff to deal with. Please wish him a happy birthday for me!

Fantastic video, I gave the printable vinyl with the UV spray a try. It worked great, but you weren't kidding when you mentioned the chemical smell from that spray, I feel like I have had a headache since I used it. The stickers after drying overnight in the garage still have a strong smell as well. Is this spray simply not for me or will this odor disappear over time?
@MakerHighSchool
@MakerHighSchool 7 лет назад
Sorry for not getting back to you soon. The internet's been wonky this week. The smell should have dissipated by now, so hopefully it's better. Next time, if you're doing it someplace like the garage, try using a respirator. The headache is because you didn't have enough air flow for the spray to dissipate. Hope you are feeling better and that the stickers are working out for you!

Yes and no. It's like sign vinyl. It will for a while if you hand wash them, but eventually, the adhesive will come loose.

Hi first off great video good good info. I've been working on one of my rc airplanes EPO foam giant scale, right now I'm working on painting it in my high school aerospace program colors and would like to have the St Augustine High School yellow jacket on the nose and an Embry riddle logo on the tail. What method would be best fit for this foam airplane that would be able to with stand high winds? I'm really trying to avoid paying an extreme price on professional made decals. Once again great video and greatly appreciate the info.

+Camera Bird No problem! My suggestion would be to go the standard sticker paper route with the overlay. Just make sure you place it correctly the first time, because you can't pull it off. Have you checked out the flite test channel? Here a link to their build playlist: ru-vid.com/group/PL6IuSFWz4kttcs02D4mJOsjFPy1NYHVuZ Love those guys.

Can I make them just by printing designs onto sticker paper without lamination?
@MakerHighSchool
@MakerHighSchool 6 лет назад
+Jenni Mangala If you don't want vinyl but nust regular stickers, then sure. The lamination keeps the colors from running, and they last longer in use.

How can I make some to put on glasses. Like to design glasses and put them on it. I know if I buy them and get them designed by someone else it'll be more expensive especially if I'm trying to sell the glasses myself. Thank you please respond.

+Angie Flores Hey there Angie. The vinyl stickers with the spray coat would work best, but any kind of stickers will come off eventually. You could do glass etching (I have another video about that) and it's permanent. Currently shooting a video about a clear coat that's dishwasher safe to seal everything in, but finding it's cloudy on clear glass, and takes a month to cure. Hoping to do final tests and have the video up in February. Does any of this help at All?

If I were to print on the vinyl sticker paper and use a vinyl cutter to cut them out, how could I exactly match the shape of the stickers with the cutter? I have an eCraft which has design software for the PC.
@MakerHighSchool
@MakerHighSchool 6 лет назад
I'm not familiar with that machine, but maybe do a test run on regular printed paper first to make sure your cutting registration lines up?
@kellyq21
@kellyq21 6 лет назад
I am asking about how to do it in general, not with any specific cutter. What is the process for printing first then cutting precisely around the printed areas with a machine? What are the steps. (note: the printing machine and cutting machine are two different machines.)

Hi can u use transfer tape as laminate sheets
@MakerHighSchool
@MakerHighSchool 4 года назад
It's not meant to be a permanent adhesive and it's usually kind of cloudy. If you're looking for a cheap easy alternative for something that doesn't needs to be acid free, try clear shelf liner. Hope that helps.

If you don't mind a matte finish, you can try dishwasher safe mod podge. I shot a video on it, but the memory card died, so I have to reshoot. I did a dishwasher test and it worked pretty well. You should try it on a glass from the dollar store first so you can see what the finish looks like. 👍
@miaberger3136

MakerHigh I will have to try that I'm going out to the dollar store soon for some wine glass but will have to go to Wal-Mart for the dishwasher safe mod podge though😁

thanks for the video! question.... is the vinyl dishwasher safe?
@MakerHighSchool
@MakerHighSchool 6 лет назад
Sorry for taking so long to respond! I've been working on the video I uploaded today. Some people would say yes, but I'm going to say no. (Due to the adhesive) You can seal it with dishwasher safe mod podge, but it's not a perfect solution (video on the forthcoming).

Generally, I use Inkscape. I like it because it's a vector format, so if I have to resize the art larger for other projects, it's still the same sharpness.

Ok I’m new to this so it was a little overloaded to understand the terms. So for option 2: use cricut vinyl die cut sheets to print out the design. Wait an hour to dry after it’s been printed. Next, spray with clear uv spray by krylon ant 4 times with 15 minute increments in btwn. Then wait an hour to fully dry. Lastly, use cling vinyl for the backing.
@MakerHighSchool
@MakerHighSchool 5 лет назад
If you're printing on sticker vinyl, you just need to print, cut and spray. The backing should already be sticky. Hope that helps!

Isn’t that spray sticky to the touch or doesn’t it have a nasty residue on it after spraying it on ?
