it's really easy! :D and yeah the aloe vera gel helps to reduce redness, as well as destroying the bacteria that creates spots and redness, it also helps with cuts and bruises, but obviously it takes time and it won't reduce the redness straight away. the foundation in the primer will also appear to reduce the redness :) and yeah it goes underneath your foundation, primer acts as a base for your makeup, it makes it last longer and gives easier application :) bethany ♥
this works pretty well actually. i did this before my date yesterday and usually my makeup doesnt last but it lasted for like 8 or 9 hours. plus my skin didn't have any breakouts and it smelled nice bc of my moisturizer.
Thanks for the idea. I'm not from the U.S.A and people don't commonly known primer, so like people doesn't know them, they sale it really expensive. I'm definitely trying this tomorrow.
yes it is lol this is her own personal mix of assorted lotions it doesn't necessarily keep the makeup on longer but it's preping and moisturizing her face before makeup usage... so it is
Aqueous cream BP is use for external and I have that kind of cream and I tested, my face is getting itchy and I saw at the back of the container said that the cream is used for those who have allergies!♥
Aloe Vera Gel (& liquid glycerin) create a matte, film-like effect on the skin, & while I found them both a bit too tacky & tightening when I used to use them as a MOISTURISER, they actually perform quite well as primers/finishers DUE to these properties. Silica is a slip agent so it creates a flawless finish, but it slips from your skin itself & takes your make-up with it. Thats why a lot of commercial primers with silica DONT work on a lot of people with imperfect skin & so-so bone structure.
@elyn78 yes! just take it out from the stem (the GEL) and apply in ur hair...root to tip, and wash after sometime. If it comes to skin, you can use RAW aloe vera as a mask on ur face too, but if u have any breakouts, then u shud test ur skin first.
@xxcashbabyxx you don't need to add foundation, foundation just gives it some colour :) and it just smooths your skin making it easier to apply makeup, and your makeup lasts longer :) if you use moisturizer and aloe vera gel it will still work as a pirmer :) x
It is a tinted moisturizer which will be absorbed by the skin. It will not sit on the skin's surface to create a smooth canvas for foundation application over it.
well... the aloe vera does a really good job at that. another thing she kinda forgot to mention is that you have to use the same based products for all of this so... for example, use all water based (aqueous) products or silicone or oil based. also, you have to use a different based foundation to make sure the the foundation sits atop of the primer and not the skin directly. so with this particular DIY, you would have to use an oil, silicone, or powder based foundation :)
@pommepizza just try and kind of cream, but do a little test of the mixture first, just to make sure it mixes properly and doesn't kind of curdle when you apply it on your face :) xx
well I enjoyed it, people normally have these products already and most didn't know all you had to do to have a primer is mix a couple things you already have it saves you the money of buying one at the store.
guys she put foundation to tint it because in flash photography primer usually shows up a lil and u dont want to look like a ghost so u tint it. hope this helps :)
Walmart has a brand called Hard Candy and their primer is like six dollars-- it works amazingly, too, and I think it would be less expensive than this. And it feels REALLY good.
@lalagirl211 aloe vera gel can be applied directly to the skin as well as your hair. aloe vera gel helps with sunburn, cuts, bruises and itching. it also nourishes the skin with vitimin E and C, and destroys bacteria.
@amandapillion Yeah, I noted that it is good for certain parts of the skin. But I said it might clog pores because it does that on me. It depends of your skintype. But Vaseline works wonders for my feet.
@Whippoful Primer is something which makes ur skin ready for the makeup or foundation. Primer should have concealer in it so it clears and hide any spots BEFORE u put foundation. Yeah, adding Concealer is correct rather than a foundation.
@Whippoful I believe that in the UK they say face primer instead of foundation. Kinda like we call the glass on the car a windshield, they call it a wind screen. =D
@lyricslove800 Vaseline would make your face very oily and possibly clog your pores. It's a good moisturizer for rougher parts of skin (elbows, lips, knees, etc) but on delicate facial skin, it would be greasy.
good vid! Lately I've been using cocoa butter from the GNC store, it's only 1.99. I usually use Maybelline in the little pink tube, but I'm really liking the cocoa butter!! I've tried Smashbox and Sephora brands but they get really oily after an hour.
how to make a primer #1 get a bb cream #2 get a concealer #3 get a one toothpick #4 get a small container then you take everything you need. you put those bb cream and concealer to your container. after that mix the bb cream and concealer after you mix it close your small container and label it. and your done. u dont need alot of make up products to make your primer. tnx for reading my comment. pls like this comment..♥ xoxo Jennah
You can get it from any health food store, vitacost (.) com or GNC, just make sure that it is the kind you use to moisturize your skin and not the one to drink, it will say so on the label. I wouldn't recommend the drug store as it can have a lot of unhealthy chemicals and you don't want to have this around your eyes. I hope this helps you :)
@itsCameron27 You might be able to use a little, with foundation it won't matter too much, and green helps cover up redness from spots and blemishes etc :P
Just starting to wear make up, and I find ur post helpfull, picked up a mac primer last week and it was $30, im like i dont think so, so thanks for this little tip
@kekepalmerfan4eva you could just skip that and use extra moisturizer, i believe that works just as well considering aloe vera is for moisturizing purposes :)
@arendir if you don't have oily eyelids or need super lasting power, this works out just fine for an everyday look :) of course an actual primer would be better, as this would come off easier. but then if you consider the price as , this homemade version may be a better buy~
@xxcashbabyxx it makes your skin feel smoother and makes your makeup last longer, but obviously it depends on your skin type :) i just love the way it makes your skin feel haha x
@UpLovermake you shoudnt use hairgel on your face... she uses aloe vera because its an all natural plant used usually on burns, like when you get a sunburn at the beach, it has calming and healing properties.
You do still need foundation on top. She swatched it on her hand and you could see it was very sheer coverage. Maybe some people could just use the primer as a light tinted moisturizer, but you will need foundation if you are going to cover any sort of skin imperfections.
@MissJacqui97 mmm, not too sure, it might work, not sure how it will react when you apply the rest of your makeup though, but you can always give it a go, it's just all about experimenting :) x
She's not using liquid glycerin in this video, she's using moisturizer, which would work against the makeup instead of with it, doing the opposite of what you want with a primer and basically negating the aloe vera gel's minute effect. Silica isn't a "slip agent", it's a mattefying agent, to reduce shine. So I'm unsure what your point was but it certainly wasn't to explain the questions I had for the owner of this video.
GOOD! I Liked it alot. I have the whole PLANT of ALOE VERA @ my home and i use it raw on my hair and skin, it is amazing for ur hair and skin. I don thave to buy that:Pm glad:D as im in Asia..its v.common here.so thats an amazing recipe for me..thankyou :D..
No those are two completely different things, both what they mean is in both names, a primer either for your face or eyelids preps your skin for other makeup usage, often primer is to smooth out in perfections, make pores look smaller and it's widely used to prolong the time your makeup stays on, eyelid primers help eyeshadow last longer and so they don't crease, same with skin primers, they help your foundation stay on longer and make your skin look better before your make up usage
every one has the right to choose how they want to look, thats your choice if you dont want to wear makeup, im 16 and i wear it. if you havent realised basically everyone wears makeup these days....
usually most supermarkets or pharmacies sell aloe vera gel i think boots or super drug sells it if not some of the stores like Holland and Barrett might have it
well, the aloe vera cream is veeeery sticky, if the one she's using is anything like the ones I've tried for my burns or scabs. That would probably create a very sticky canvass to put your other makeup onto. I'm just not sure how well it works in the long run, though.

Oh my, petroleum jelly would be very heavy and very oily on the skin. Marilyn Monroe used to apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly before applying pan stick for a dewy look. This was in the 50's, and she had dry skin.
I dunno why she used mosturiser, but then some commercial primers are 'normal' & 'oil free'. Companies like Laura Mercier make them like this, I guess, to provide a moisturising option for mature skin & a shine reducing one for younger skin. Silica is definitely a slip agent, look it up. It creates an even, smooth base over your skin so your make-up can SLIDE on. However, the primer ITSELF often slides OFF aswell, taking the make-up too. Silica/one is used in hair conditioners to CREATE shine.
i dont put foundation on after primer. thats y i have to make sure my primer has a little bit of covering so that i dont seem so pale after i put it on...
