A few of my friends and I just got pool cues and are beginners. Everyone else jumped into advanced things like bank shots and spin while all I've done is practice my stroke and stance at home on my kitchen table. I have a cutting mat with perfect straight lines and I spend a lot of time just aligning it as straight on every axis as possible. Even after just a couple days of this my game improved tremendously - especially those pesky long and straight on shots. Everyone thinks its the cue and I'm like nah its understanding fundamentals and practice.

I play with the state champion as a friendly sparring partner and he always just tells me simple tips and fundamentals while his son is a expert at bank shots, he said it takes years before all that stuff and just focusing and keeping the fundamentals is most important! The bank shots and English comes later

Thanks Max, after my surgery to remove a cancer lump in my neck my stroke is not what it once was, I'm missing a lot of balls because of it. It seems to me I have to get back to basic fundamentals. I set a laser to get the donuts in a straight line, but I felt something was missing. I watched your video I believe that's the missing component. I was amazed how straight your stroke was! Thanks max for the help.

I practice my stroke on an ironing board, I put a thick towel on it so I see the follow through pattern for a short while on the material. I can see my reflection in the window, so I can see if my elbow is solid without steer or drop. In the pool hall I try to film around 5 minutes of my straight shots and watch afterwards, I look for bridge rigidity, fidgeting, stroke rhythm. My stroke was poor, I had steer, I had no pause before delivery. Now it's much better. 5 out of 15 shots look really solid on video. I am a novice, of course. It takes a lot of focus to stay consistent in stroke, it breaks down, the quality deteriorates after some time. But I will keep on improving.

My dude, is that downtown Queretaro? I moved there right before covid and lived there for a year. Right in the heart of it, maybe 4 blocks from that exact hall! I went there a few times before I rented a table of my own from a local dealer. What a MAGIC town that is. Oh how I miss it. I moved to Bangkok, though, and the scene for pool here is even better! Funny to see you in Queretaro of all places :)

There is a RU-vid video of a snooker player closing his eyes during stroke delivery. If your stroke technique is solid and ingrained, you can close your eyes during the pause after the final back swing, focus on just the forearm motion and pocket the ball.

Idea: I used to be a pool promoter in Ohio. You have a relationship with Joe Rogan. Why don’t you run by him the idea of forming a nationwide American Billiard tour. He has the connections for sponsors. Good prize $ is a drop in the bucket for his friends and acquaintances! Who knows, maybe one of the Billionaires loves pool and BAM, Pool is where golf in no time. Constantly gaining popularity and strength! I’ve been babbling about this idea for 2 years on Rogans clips. Maybe you can get somewhere with it Max! It would be the ultimate gift to the game! Thx

Any tips on how to keep your elbow in alignment. Im also having a reoccurring problem where when I swing through my hand ends up overswinging through sometimes and ends up right next to my ribs. Obviously this only happens when I accidentally do it, and shortening my stroke almost always fixes this. Anything you got would be cool. Thanks

Timely for me. I miss the straight in shot or minor long shot which HAS to be in the cueing. If I have the open table I can go full table, bounce back right to the tip. But... using more power power or off the rail, I'm getting some squirt. Back to practice

I have a question not being critical just asking for knowledge..it looks like you favor the cue to the left..is that the way you naturally shoot..or are you doing that purposely..because I know every person has their own perception of center..I favor a little to the inside..should I work on getting better to be centered or adjust my game to that favoring...I appreciate the feedback..I as because CJ Wiley favors the inside..he called it a touch of inside
@stanleysabara

On straight shots, I notice that your cue tip is slightly to the left of the center of thr cue ball. Is this intentional? But the stroke is extremely straight.

Question: Do you think the shaft type (conical vs pro taper) plays a big role on where you strike the cue ball? And does the shaf type impact your stroke and bridge (in your opinion)? Thanks.
@brucecharlie8613

I play British pool which is basically crazy snooker. Long story short if you use closed bridge you want straight cue and a tapered one for open bridge. Obviously pros like this guy can get away with alot. He has a Robot closed bridge lol

When your stroking through the cue ball is grip supposed to be as light as possible?
@MaxEberle
@MaxEberle 2 года назад
Not so light that you lose control of the cue and not so tight that you hinder and steer your stroke offline... Imagine you're holding a small bird, don't let it fly away and don't crush it... lol. Your fingers need to be supple so that you can swing the cue without flopping your wrist around. The the fingers be soft enough to absorb the follow through...
@KingJ5dabears
@KingJ5dabears 2 года назад
@@MaxEberle thanks for the reply. I’ve notice that sometimes my cue goes to the left on my follow through. And when I shoot a ball with no cue ball it’s straight. I’m left eye dominate and a right handed player. I’m just inconsistent but a decent player in apa. I think I just need to do what your doing in the video and practice stroke more but I don’t want to be doing something wrong. Could be just more practice I need. Plus I think when I hit a little left on the cue ball from where I think is center ball it’s straighter to me. I hit unintended spin sometimes. My vision center or something visual could be off. Thanks max! Great video!

no stoke, no consistency, if you can't make 10 in a row strait shots, don't move on to angles, only the strait shot tells you where you hit the cue ball, you had good camera work on this one I new where the cue ball was going after impact on the object ball just by looking.

Im 51 and working on my game 6 to 8 hours a day for the last few years. I have nothing but positive tgoufhts and goals for my game. I hate the negativity associated with players over 50 or even players over 40 not being able to compete or win a championship. Prove them all wrong Max! O H .............
