Hi Ruth. Thanks for the nice tip on how to style the matrix. I noticed that turning off the totals not only get rid of the bottom grand total but also the "top row" totals so I came up with an alternative. And that was to set the font color of Grand Total to the same as the background, both for values and label. That way you still have totals on the top visible.
Brilliant hack, Ruth! Simply amazing. What's best about this is the elements are still fairly simple to select (unlike others that I've seen done by others, where there are simply way too many elements, so when changes are required it's an utter PAIN to make those aesthetic changes). I like this. Short and sweet.
I saw this technique from the COVID-US Tracking Report send out as an example from MS. Took me forever to figure it out and I never used it in a report (the technique) but you did a great job explaining it quickly and should save people loads of time. Really great breaking it down for everyone. Thank you
Really great. A takeaway (for me) is that I can precisely set the width of those coloured header shapes and then line up the columns with them. This is always a pain. (Though I know there is the "measure format = "0123456789" > switch on auto-width > switch off trick" too). Setting column widths as built-in options and, as you said, putting totals on the top would be tremendous improvements.
Thank You For the vedios of yours. Is there any way i can change the Column Name ?Dynamically.Example : Variance between two days in table where todays balances shown with date of those in column header. Also How to disable sorting for columns ?
Hi Ruth, I think that the individual column header colors can be achieved by using the 'Field Formatting' option and applying the color to only the header. It won't be as nice and rounded like you do or some other formatting that you have done, but the color part of it works. What are your thoughts? Thanks!
Thanks Vishesh, I think it is easier and more versatile to maintain if you make it transparent and have a background image do the formatting, just a preference though!
Thanks for the video. I was just wondering I have a bunch of similar tables in my report. All the tables are not same but most of the columns are the same. I also have graphs in a few pages. Presently I do the formatting for each visual manually and set my required formats. Is there a way we can load a themes file which specify the requirements for each type of visual. Doing it manually for each visual is quite time consuming. Can you please point me to an article that I can refer online for the same?
Hello Ruth, I am a newcomer to Power Bi and your videos and was attracted by the present demo. I was wondering if the pbix file is available for downloading (self study and practice). I have tried to locate it in the download center but had no luck. Thanks in advance for your reply.
could you answer me on this question plz: i want to highlight top 3 in pivot chart with every drill down is that possible ? thank you for all your information you sharing🤗
Thanks for the great video! I'm still struggling to show the head columns names as the shapes are blocking the table. Could you explain to me how you added these colorful column headers?
is there a way to fix in case we have to scroll to the right when we have more than 10 columns let's say. since in that case we wouldn't be able to present the column headers with a fixed color
I have selected table Style “None” and turned the backbground off and changed font of column header to White. then Inserted and placed a Rectangle Shape right behind the column header area and in fill fx added this measure - if(HASONEFILTER(dim_prod[product_name]), "Blue","White"). So If any product_name is selected in slicer then the rectangle shape will change to blue color and column headers will be visible otherwise white font on white background will be hidden. Data part of the table can be hidden by selecting another measure for the columns in Conditional formatting font color.. This is the best way I would think of for hiding a table when no value is selected in slicer and also where the table is clickable and interactable when visible.
Everything in Power BI needs to be a workaround, there is no simple way to do even the simplest things. This is so hard for maintenance if I suddenly need to add a new column or rename the column. This is a rant on PBI, not the video.
t's been 2 years. Did they fix it? Why are we still using Power BI? Why do we have to use hacks and tricks to have basic functionality? It feels like we've been using an alpha version for years now.
