To the ones that love us... God Bless Them To the ones that don't... Dear Lord turn their hearts. If you can't turn their hearts Lord, turn their ankles so we can tell tellem by their limp. 🥃
The other thing Maker's does really well? Their client experience is exceptional. After we had our tour, they invited us to spend the rest of the day at the distillery. They have kind of a museum, some art work, fantastic grounds, and a restaurant. They're the best at promoting the brand
The "I'm not going to drink my parent's generation's spirit" phenomenon was one of the factors that led to the reduction of production of Japanese whiskey which then led to lack of supply when it became popular outside of Japan due to (among other things) a favorable review of Suntory’s Yamazaki Single Malt Sherry Cask 2013 which was designated the "best in the world" from the Whisky Bible, raising the global profile and demand of the Japanese whisky.
When considering the growing conflict between the Knights of the Mooch and the Knights of the Somm, one thing can be said; The Spirit Monk[e]y does not choose sides, it only protects the balance of the water of life.
I worked on a series of Maker Mark poster years ago, building rough models of buildings from iconic cityscapes, dripping the wax on them, photographing the wax with an eye on lighting from the cityscape, and then had those wax drippings photoshopped onto the cityscapes. Maker Mark always had great marketing people.
Very happy you are covering Maker's! This was my first bourbon and first stop on the KY Bourbon Trail. BEAUTIFUL grounds! Unique marketing with the wheat and wax seal. May not be the best "wheater" on the market, but it kept the style alive for the other good ones!
@@Synday I wouldn't say superior, but I would put high quality sipping spirits on the same level. Problem is, most people don't want to spend $50 for a bottle of good Vodka.
As a home distiller who adamantly believes in his own spirits....my favorite whiskey is my own, homade liquor, which ranges anywhere from gin, vodka, single malt and bourbon. Do to a motorcycle wreck,I havent produced my own for about 4 months because of an awful motorcycle wreck, I just purchased my first bottle of maker's mark and I couldn't be more satisfied. its surprisingly smooth for a traditional type bourbon,I love it!
My favorite Maker's Mark has been a Private Select, bottled a smidge under 110 proof. It was rich in flavor, velvety in texture and pleasantly but not overly sweet. Best bourbon I've had thus far.
For me, Makers makes the best "whiskey & coke" around. It consistently wins "& coke" blinds at my house vs any other bourbon / whiskey that one would normally choose to mix with coke.
Still my favorite whiskeys as of right now. I remember I tried to go back to Jack Daniels after I finished the bottle of Maker's, and it tasted like spicy water, in the most literal sense. No flavor, just a warm throat. Maker's goes so well with Coke, it's crazy! There's something about the mixture that makes it taste rich, creamy, dense, smooth with some bits of tingling to my tongue and lips. But, an overall amazing experience, from someone who prefers Berliner Weisse beers (favorite is 1809). I remember accidentally getting the mint julip version (I'm very colorblind) and didn't notice until I drank it. I was taken aback, and threw up because I wasn't prepared for the taste. Still finished that bottle.
Love it. As a Gael, I am used to Pot Still Irish and Fine Island Single Malts...Bourbon is wonderful too...but this one has echoes of the Gaelic whiskies with the new world combined. It's a fine piece of work. My go-to for my fellow Gaels who look down their noses at Bourbon. I believe Bouboun is as fine as any Celtic Uisce Beatha.
I Thailand I saw this bottle the first time with a home made moon shine inside. The bottle always looked intriguing to me and after your review I think I will get myself bottle to finally try it.
Maker's Mark has an excellent product. Wether it is the regular, Cask Strength, 46 or 46 cask strength, they are all consistent and made the right way. Take a tour there. They do things the same way every day. The label makers are machines from the 50's... they print their lables, cut them put them on.... they still hand dip the wax off the bottling line... they move the bottles from spot to spot over the years.... and they have a natural cellar in the hillside.... all while being on a fantiastic property that is a working farm. I will always be a big fan.
I toured the Glen Breton distillery last spring and the manager told me that they had initially released their ice wine finished whiskey with a blue wax seal, and then got a cease and desist letter from Makers Mark not long after. Having just fought the Scotch Whisky Association for several years over their name they were somewhat tired of court battles so they conceded.
Makers Mark was my first attempt at a whiskey besides Jack Daniels and so on. Frankly it was the perfect entry, am now on Buffalo Trace and it is going to be a great Journey.
Quick story why I drink Makers and recommend it to everyone. Back in 2010 I picked up my first car (98 Grand Cherokee) with my dad from Florida and drove it back to my college in Ohio. We stopped by the distillery but unfortunately it was too late for a tour. As we are walking around the parking lot, an employee told us we can walk around and ask other employees what everything was and the whisky making process. As we were about to head out, the first employee asked if we wanted to try their different types of whisky. Anyway, we had a nice conversation and my dad got wasted while I had to stay sober and drive throughout the night to Columbus. The employees at Makers Mark were incredible people and really made us feel like family.
That is a fantastic story and memory to have... we visited Maker's on a regular tour this summer... they still do everything first class and treaty everyone visiting so well... beautiful property/farm....
I kinda started my love of bourbon from maker’s mark, and now after trying many others that might be better or more complex, I still like it. I’m surprised you guys didn’t say anything about the strong brown sugar taste that I always get. 🤷🏻♂️
I've been expanding my horizons meaning of other whiskeys but Maker's Mark is one of my first whiskey's I really enjoy Maker's Mark 46 but I wish to try the barrel strength Maker's Mark never had that before one day though I will to the people of Maker's Mark thank u
Hmm, I totally missed the new intro until someone on Facebook mentioned it, same music but kind of sliding glass window effect. I might have to break out of the mold and try the Maker's Mark, but have held off so far because the simple hatred for the brand by some. My wheat bourbon go to is Buffalo Trace on your recommendation over a year ago. Cheers gentlemen on great drams and reviews!
8:45 I proudly declare that I was part of this intifada as we gloriously threw down the low-proofers. May the Great Spirits Spirit never allow them to rise again.
Thank you for doing the classic Maker's Mark. I appreciate the comparison with the cask strength. I hope some day you will review side by side classic with 46. I have and love both classic and 46. I've watched your other videos with 46 comparisons, but I would really appreciate watching you do the side by side specifically with these two as I feel it could help me better understand the differences between two of my favorite bourbons. Thanks again! - David Bacon Gulliver, Salem, Oregon
You should put the spices in glencairns with gasketed lids and make a display for all of those with their names on the glass and the display. Like a spice rack but for nosing reference. Also things like coffee beans or sawdust that come up in whisky as well.
I've enjoyed Daniel month. As it comes to an end, we wait with bated breath to see if April will become a Rex wreck! (My breath is baited with garlic, cheese and onions.) It's ok Rex, we really DO like you! LOL
Believe it or not, I’m working on my first bottle of Maker’s Mark. When I was younger, it seemed a waste of money, especially when I could buy Crown instead, and recently, I’ve just tried newer brands. I really like the whisky and may keep it in regular rotation. It makes a really nice old fashioned!
It was said that when Bill Sr retired and handed the business off to his son, Bill Jr (who is still head of Maker's Mark), he said "Don't screw up the whisky". And so they haven't. I love this stuff. Great whisk(e)y!
Wheatley vodka is just that my friend. It's Buffalo Trace and they use your exact statement of why you should buy their vodka. They use all their experience same grain as they use for their bourbon you hit the nail right on the head it just took them awhile to get to it.
Used to drink Maker’s primarily but started delving into other whiskies including Scotch; now just can’t drink Maker’s. Not sure what happened but it lost its place on my shelf. Kudos to Maker’s for putting bourbon first before just trying to fit in. As always, great vid.
I only drink jack Daniel's and Evan's Williams 1783 I. Only 25 kinda new to wiskey what would you think is better than Jack Daniel's trying makers mark now lol
I would somewhat disagree with your statement about the thinking Whiskey/bourbon is an old person's drink. I was a teen in the late '70s and in my 20's in the '80s and ALL of my friends drank Jack Daniels and Jim Beam almost exclusively(yes I started drinking early). I live in Northeast Ohio close to Akron just South of Cleveland a bit. JD and JB were the drink of choice when it came to hard liquor. Still is in these parts. :) Thanks for your show. I just bought a bottle of Monkey Shoulder and I am LOVING it. Very nice. Just found your channels and am playing catch up. Peace
If there were ever an award for coolest bottle design you gotta love Maker’s Mark’s chances. The red wax causes me to think of the fire used to char the barrels.
Paniolo Whiskey is also a light whiskey. According to there website they source Kentucky whiskey and add in there vodka (Pau Vodka). This is the Haliimaile Distillery located on Maui, Hawaii.
I love how he flips off the camera the first time, and then he does it again, and this time it is blurred out. I have been drinking Markers Mark for a very long time.
