It's like fashion designers that do haute couture, but dress themselves in simple all-black pants and t-shirts. I guess it is to not be distracted, and also to be a subject while the models are the objects.

You start to feel as an artist that your canvas is what inspires you. I often find I do better makeup on my clients than I do on myself. I don't know if it's because one gets tired of their own face haha! When I didn't have anyone to practice on, I did it on myself, but personally, as I have gotten older, I find beauty in minimalism in my own makeup and let myself be inspired by my clients face and what it's telling me to create.
