I love finding this tutorial. I am 86 years old , so yes I have challenges! However, I have no desire to agonize over losing my youthful beauty. I wear foundation well and really like a dewy look. My biggest challenge is my very sparse eye brows and gone are my lush eyelashes. I would wear light lashes but my vision is not actuate. All this to say to all who think age is a downer... it's actually quite freeing!!!
I couldn’t agree more! I don’t wear a lot of makeup but I do wear some. Yours video is the absolute best I’ve ever seen. I’m 69 and don’t want to look like a clown😉 Thank you!
I clean my makeup brushes always after one use. It’s easier and much quicker. A solid cleansing bar is great as it gets the foundation out even on white brush heads. No irritation from using soaps on brushes.
I never use mascara on bottom lids and I have been using a wonderful matte primer from Essence line . It's inexpensive and I absolutely love it. They also have an 18 hr long last mist you use after your make-up. My eyes are creases and I have a hard time finding really nice eyeshadow palette.
I have a hard time as well with using natural color lipstick because I have a cleft lip and palate. The darker shades actually camouflage my scar. When I don't wear my liner and stay on forever lipstick ppl ask about my lip. I have very heavy lids on my eyes so I am going to try your tips Laura. You're absolutely stunning. I'm almost 53 and ppl have asked me if I am in my 30's. But having channels such as yours really helps me!!! Thank you for sharing your tips. ❤
I think we have all changed. For many years makeup was heavy and harsh. Now it is all about softness. You are not alone!

You've inspired me to go a little darker with my foundation. I believe that would help my look as well. I can't get over the night and day difference between the two looks. Your skin looks amazing.
Fool proof brow products are Maybelline Build a Brow that has a pen on one side to draw in hairs and a gel on the other side, and their Tattoo Styling Gel which gives these beautiful full brows with just a few swipes of the wand, looking like real thicker beautiful brows. I have never done brows because they always looked crazy but since getting these two products I've been able to actually do my brows and not look like Groucho brows, those real harsh brows or like I took a marker to my brows like 2016 brow craze that I've always hated on everyone.😂
Laura, this is not meant as criticism of you, so please don't take it as such. To each his own, of course, but I think women - especially those of a certain age - are way overregulated. "Don't do this! Don't do that! Don't wear this! Only minimal makeup! Only minimal everything!" Excuse me, are we allowed to breathe? Or should we only take shallow breaths? I wear foundation, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara ... the full Monty. Even metallic ES sometimes, but with a very light hand. I used to be a makeup artist so I know how to apply makeup. I draw the line at red lipstick. That can be tricky. Look, let's face it. Once youth is gone, it's gone, and there's NO faking it, no matter what you do (or don't do). So be your own person and do what you're comfortable with. What's the worst that can happen? People will criticize you? Oh, DEAR. 🙄 BTW, I'm 71 and everybody thinks I'm 60. So I can't be completely wrong.
You can’t beat the adage: Less is more. When I was a young educator, and there were many much older colleagues, I swore to remember NOT to do what they were doing. Now, I am “there”. I am post menopause and my advice is always less is more. Light on the foundation if at all. Light on concealer - we ALL need concealer! NO dark lips. Light natural lips. Mascara, but not dark liner. Light shadow. Just look around and see who looks best. I think this is a great video for this very reason. The before looks 10 years older than the after. What I thought when I was 25 and looking at women in their late 50’s and 60’s, has come true now 35 years later! This is exactly what I learned in practice. Watching. Telling myself OH no, I pray I have the courage to 1) age with grace and 2) help myself by being at a healthy weight 3) moving!! And 4) NOT feeling I have to cover every spot and line with heavy amounts of make up! That’s what I saw. I am grateful to all those older women who had no idea the example they were setting and how helpful it would be to me much much later in life. -)
That eye balm doesn't break apart your makeup or have it patchy or not allow concealer to set down? With it being a balm, I'd imagine that being maybe better for night. Never would think it would be good with makeup over it, or do you wipe it off before applying under eye makeup?
I love watching and learning new tips for my 65 year old face. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. The Queen Bee has coconut oil in it, and it is very irritating on my skin. Can you recommend something without coconut oil? Your face looks beautiful!👍🏻
I am 58 and stopped wearing foundation because of the way it sits on top of the skin. I now wear, a tinted sunscreen an focus more on healthy skin. I still love makeup but have also changed some of my techniques. Love your video. Pickup some ideas on placement of my contour and blush. Thanks a bunch.
I mix foundation with sunscreen or some light face cream/lotion/serum and it's the best tinted moisturizer. I can control the concentration, shade and quality by mixing only things that I know I like.
What a great video! I am 61 and started wearing makeup at 59! Love the discussion about how our face is changing. So helpful because the changes just keep coming!Keep the great tips coming!
I have been watching your channel for many years. I must say that your hair and makeup look so much better now than in the early years of your channel. You are one of my favorite beauty influencers on You Tube, I have learned so much from you
I was watching Niki LaRose, and she was explaining that she uses Dawn dish soap to clean her brushes. She has so many brushes because she is a professional makeup artist. Basically she did say use whatever we have on hand to clean our brushes. The important thing is that we clean them. I always wipe mine back and forth on a microfiber cloth, and then I will do a deep clean every 2 to 3 weeks. The Lancome mascara is my holy grail, but now I am going to try the elf mascara. A lot of people are saying that the elf tubing mascara is a dupe for the Thrive mascara. I am 59 years old and have never used concealer. I don't have dark circles so I just don't have a reason to wear it. I have to say you look absolutely beautiful. I think you always look nice, but you are right. Using a bit darker foundation at our age makes us look more youthful. Great Video!
For me if I dont fill some of that lip liner , once the lipstick comes off some . You can see theip liner alone . So I put it to fill in as well. Not that every day I have to gave lipstick. If I ho out , I put something on my lups usually ❤❤❤❤. Laura Rae love your honesty and Style . Ypu are very pretty and have beautiful skin . 😊
So pretty! Thank you for all these tips. I appreciate your reflecting on what you used to do/use, why that doesn't work anymore, and what you do now that works better. Looking forward to trying out your ideas!
Loved learning some new tips from you, I'm 71 and know my skin has changed and I'm always looking for ideas to make myself feel good so thank you 😍 just subscribed, from the South of England UK
Lovely effects with great tips. Thank you so much. I am 78 years old and trying to find that good balance between aging naturally and gracefully, and enhancing the features that will make me look most presentable. I don't like "harsh" looks of overdone makeup, and you really have it figured out!
I noticed my skin tone has changed - I'm wearing subtle pink shades of blush and my eyeliner pencil is a warm brown shade now. Thanks Laura for sharing 😊
Much softer look. Something many of us of a certain age need to look at in our own makeup application. I know I’ve changes some things in the past few months and will probably change even more in the future.
My 57yro. face can't do anything heavy. For everyday, I typically skip a color corrector. A good rule to remember is that dark recedes and light brings forward. I do not use concealer. Wet-N-Wild Tinted Hydrated applied from a cushion compact and starting from the center of the face working outwards works for me. I use a taupe shade to recede a prominent brow bone on my hooded eyes and use a champagne shimmer on the lid. I apply setting spray on my hand and dip my brush in that before dipping into the shimmer. (no fall out) I only line the lower lash line with shadow; dark brown/navy/green with the same technique and only carry it to the center of the iris. I use a bit of Essence bronzer in Sunday at the hairline, under jaw. I use Elf putty blush in Caribbean, sheared out and top with a powder blush for longevity. For Spring Summer, a blush with shimmer adds an extra glow without the need for highlighter. I'm currently using the one in the Milani All in One Face Palette Volume 110. Mascara is Essence Bye-Bye Panda Eye. Lips is Clinique Pink Honey. I do not use a liner for an everyday look.
Hi Laura, Just Beautiful 😍 You look so beautiful in your makeup you did today. I really like the deeper shade of foundation on you, and I like all the makeup you used today. Thank you for showing us how you apply all your makeup too it will help me on my application of makeup on my 65 yr old face. I just Love You and God Bless You💗🙏🏼
You always give great tips but I was surprised that you didn’t apply sunscreen. I’d love to know of some high SPF sunscreen products you’ve found that work well under makeup. Thanks.
I think my foundation shades are probably also too light....but it's such a hard habit to break! And I am the Queen of Clown Blush. 😲 I apply it using my up-close makeup mirror in my closet where I sit and do my makeup. Then when I go and look in the much larger bathroom mirror I seem to always have some rather colorful cheeks going on!!! 🤡
Hi Laura, I really like the darker foundation, It is more youthful on you. I think I'm going to have to darken my foundation. I think you should go 1/2 a shade lighter on your under eyes. It appears 1/2 shade to dark. You turned out a beautiful look. I really enjoy when you do tutorials I learn so much. As a 62 year woman my face seems to change every week. It's so helpful when you show us new techniques. Your new techniques make you look healthy and beautiful. God bless you and yours.
Do you have any tips for under eye dark circles and hallowing? Also, I'm getting areas of orange peel texture just below my cheeks. Is there anything I can do to improve this as well as cover or disguise these? Thank you Laura. ❤
Flawless! A beautiful, natural look for you. SO much better than the other application. I love that you share the brand and color of the products you're using. New subscriber with lots to catch up on. Thanks!
Why do the makers of brow products not understand that there is such a thing as ash blonde?? I always have a choice of either golden brows that clash with my skin tone or too-dark brown brows that make me look like Groucho Marks. My brows are the bane of my existence (that’s really not true… I have many other issues!). And I don’t really have many brow hairs for a brown mascara to adhere to. I just can’t find something that works for my brows.
Hi Laura! I love your tips for keeping things smooth and natural looking. I really like the serum foundations more now than the traditional liquid makeup. (love your blush , too)! xo, Donna
Awesome video! Thank you! Thank you for showing the red lips as a no no. I despise red lipstick. The color you had definitely looked younger and fresher. Your makeup looked beautiful. Great tutorial. Thank you, and God bless!!
Great tips, but you have beautiful, beautiful eyes and skin. What about those of us who have naturally hooded eyes, I have found that the techniques you’re working on the great for people who have lots of lid exposure, but for those of us who have hooded lids it doesn’t really work. I love your idea about moisturizing your lips. I will definitely start doing that.
My oldest daughter has small hooded eyes. She goes to events often for her non-profit and I love doing her makeup. I usually use one beautiful eye shade or use two and go very close to the lash line with eyeliner and powder. Small brushes really help to get more detail. Most brushes I find are too big. Hope this is helpful.❤️❤️
I think you look beautiful in both applications. The glamorous look just seemed to have a too light of foundation shade that may have had an aging affect.
Laura, Really enjoyed this video, very informative & I appreciate the comparison. What a difference! I agree, I think it's better to work with what we have. Thku😊
The darker shade is gorgeous on you! This is something my lily white Irish complexion needs now also , as im 56 now i had noticed my usual cool Alabaster skin tones were washing me out so i bought a darker tone to play about with recently , the Revolution Silk Skin being so affordable i thought it was the one to use for shade practise & i bought F4& F8 to mix . I did get a compliment so i think it must have looked better on me. That Estèe Lauder skin tint is really beautiful the more im watching you its looking nicer 😍 ...Im influenced!! 😊😂
You look beautiful!! Love the soft look. What you said about "Self Acceptance" is a beautiful gift we can give to ourselves each & every day, liking the reflection in the mirror is an awesome feeling, a game changer. TFS that with us, I'll carry that with me in my thoughts ❤🌹💋💅🌅🌄🌞🌑🌒🌓🌔🌕🌖🌗🌘we had an awesome eclipse today!!!Be well...
In my opinion once anyone hears your age , noone is ever going to say to your response that your 40-50-60-70 that ohhh ok you look your age or oh i thought you were older, unless they have 2 brain cells and are rude. Ya right. They ALWAYS respond ohh i thought you were younger. Obviously, its kind of the auto polite response. So all these women who sware people say all the time to them they think there younger, especially men. Come on. Its the polite thing to say. Im on the side of there is absolutely things woman can do makeup wise that will age you or look tacky. Some people genuinely like the tacky look but I know Laura here is just trying to help us out, she absolutely does not mean to offend anyone. Shes been doing this a long time and personally shes in makeup and paying close attention more than the average consumer. Some of you who believe theirs nothing you can do that will inevitably age you or just plain look silly your in denial and you should actually probably be taking her advice just saying.
I know this is not what you're talking about but I am having trouble with my light light light light eye brows. I don't know if I should dye them or nyx brow I need help. Thankyou. My problem is I have wrinkles under my light blonde eye brows I tried everything
Hi Laura.. Thank you for showing both applications,.. that contrast really brought out the blunders I have made..I love your natural look....I loved all your tips...Thanks so very much.. and please keep up your videos.. You are beautiful... outside.. BUT INSIDE too 🌹🌹💟💟🤗🤗
Laura u r so pretty u need nothing, that said your skills are so on point for the more mature.face. (Not yours) I’d love to do this to myself next to you copying each step. I have not wore makeup for my first 70 years except maybe an annually very special event, Then it was foundation mascara & lipstick. I’ve never ever did anything to my eyebrows until 65. No kidding ,& then I was encouraged by a sales rep. So this is all very new. I keep wanting to look 20 years younger not a beautiful 70 y/o. So u can c I’m struggling. Thank you so much. I loved your advice I did subscribe so I look forward to more information. I will say something to you. I think your hair up would be very nice with your face. It’s nice and full and you get a sexy look not that you don’t already Plus it draws more attention to your face, which is absolutely gorgeous I look forward to more and your list of products.
OMG! Loved this video! My skin has gone from all over oily to mostly dry with still T zone oil. Since my 50's (I am 60 now), I have turned to a less heavy foundation. I really love Covergirl's Simply Ageless. Very light in texture. A lot of times I just wear a tinted sunscreen/moisturizer instead of foundation ( Cerave is my favorite). I no longer use black liner, instead I use brown and because of your vid, I am going to try gray liner with my mascara. I have just about abandoned using blush. I really have no need for it anymore. Blessings!
You look beautiful! You have gorgeous skin. I have just subscribed to your channel. Can you send me a link to your skin care routine/products? I have very uneven skin including age spots and freckles. As of late, dark under eyes as well. Thank you!
Laura, you’re stunningly beautiful. I love your look. It’s so kind of you to reach out to help others. Makeup can be so confusing. I’m 64 and still trying to get it right. I use cold pressed Castor Oil that’s hexane free castor oil on my face about every other day. I do facial massage with the oil. It’s helped my skin look much more vibrant. Oh, it must be bought in a dark amber, glass bottle. The people selling it in plastic bottles are polluting the oil.
I am 60 years old and just tried castor oil. Love it so much for night time use. Leaves your skin so hydrated and wait and see how good you look when you wake up in the am. Also good for inflammation.
I put my nighttime skincare on first and then the oil on top It is super thick so you might want to cut it with another oil such as rosehip, coconut, argan etc. You don't have to but it makes it easier to spread. I bought Queen of the Thrones brand.
Hello, please don’t use castor oil if you have a dog, because they will lick your face, legs, etc., and it is poisonous to the animal. They get violently ill and usually die! Check with your vet, if you’re not sure of what I’m saying. Thank you.
