FRENZZZ! You will run into my butthole lips around halfway, b/c I taught class before, and failed to reapply. I didn't realize it was so bad until editing. I couldn't re film that portion today, and decided to go forward with the original footage. PLEASE FORGIVE ME 😅
I love how thorough you are and your outlook & use of the products. You’re just such a joy to watch and I learn several new techniques d plain old facts. Thanks dear👍🏻😘🙏🏼🙏🏼
I just love your reviews and your thoughtful and intelligent comments. Finally a review that shows more than just safe neutral looks. Keep on doing what you’re doing. ❤️❤️❤️
After spending a king’s ransom on Suqqu thanks to you...lol and as much as I like Mario I’m going to pass on this. Plus I’m on makeup overload with no place to go. Thank you for your dedication
I relate to this too well! I've been really enthusiastic about the SUQQU products I purchased, which is nice because it means that none of these other holiday collections are tempting me at all. I'm excited to see her review the SUQQU holiday eyeshadow though.
Jylli 🤣 I too spent an insane amount on Suqqu, and was on the fence about this collection. All in all, I do rather focus most of my energy on the niche brands like Suqqu because they are truly phenomenal!
ALICIA, I absolutely adore you and all your ideas for application and getting the most payoff. You are a true role model and professional. I would love to see you make your own line of make-up. Hey, a 53 year old girl can dream 🥰
I initially wanted to comment on the things I love about the way you make your videos, but I see everyone else has already said everything I wanted to. So now I'm just going to say that I'm so grateful that I ran into your channel 🙏. Keep going the way you're going. You're amazing!
You are a great teacher Alicia! Great and I mean great informative video. I love sparkle too! I like the softness of the neutrals and they don’t appear dusty. I like that. 10 stars🌟 for you!🌹Have a great day.
I really like this entire collection! I'm super keen to try the Crystal highlights and the metal palette with the mixing medium...I personally love all the glitter and sparkles! Your videos are so comprehensive Alicia thank you for all this!! Your time is appreciated!
Oh gosh Alicia this video looks like it was some work! I don’t think I realized how big of an initial launch this was. Thanks for hitting us with all the details! 💞💞💞
Ok so i have a question for you becse. You have played with rhe new pat magrath the halladay. Divine decadance and the mario matalics Ol so if you can pick 1 of thees 2 palets what would you pick onist anser lol
Have been in two minds about picking this up as the palettes are $83 Australian. I am a little underwhelmed by the reviews. Was waiting for yours to make the final decision. I suppose with so much coming out at the moment with Christmas collections I am not sold. Whilst both pallets are stunning in the pan they don’t translate onto the eyes (based on the reviews out there so far). I think this will be a miss for me, which I am incredibly surprised to be saying! Thanks Alicia. Your reviews are by far the best and most comprehensive.
hi alicia, i so appreciate your thorough review. i like expensive too. i really enjoyed his collection, but i also really enjoy watching him do makeup. tFS
Another well done video, but this is still a no buy for me. This release just doesn’t excite me. I was hoping for something more than a nude palette. 🤷🏾♀️
Thank you, Christine! It will be interesting to see what else Mario releases. If you see the majority of his looks, they are all bronze/smokey eye heavy, so I understand why he would release a neutral palette first.
kinkysweat Though this release was uninspiring to me, I still respect his skill as an artist. I agree that it will be interesting to see what he does next.
I just received my first chikuhodo brush, the Z1 this week. I was totally influenced after watching your brush video. And damn is amazing, thanks! Ps I love how you start your videos with all the information, it’s amazing. That musk take a lot of work and research
I've been wondering if the Mehron mixing medium is different than inglot duraline? I also have the JD Glow mixing medium. I love it because I use it for all of my multichromes and it's my secret to the most beautiful shiny shifty eyes 🖤💜🖤💜 love ya guys! I can't wait to see what Mario comes out with in the future. I liked this more than I expected, just all the shiny stuff but I have plenty of that. I hope he can curate a palette with some more unique colors. I know first launch people like to do simple at times and then branch out from there and that's what I'm hoping for 💜💜
I love the idea of the metal palette with like the mixing medium and the spatula, but I have had some eyeshadows from Stila before that required a mixing medium to really reach their full potential, and I never used them because of the hassle, so I imagine this would be the same for me! I appreciate all the swatches and the very thorough first impression/review!
I keep changing my mind about this collection... I'm kinda settling on it doesn't blow my skirt up but I don't hate it either. I actually wondered if those reflectors were similar to Pat's astral shades (I call those mature age friendly glitter 😂). The mixing medium is interesting...I don't have the mehron one but I do have duroline which does the same thing and some metallic loose pigments that I'm suddenly thinking would make great liner colours. I also have to give him props for offering international shipping out of the gate at a reasonable rate and a reasonable free shipping cap for international as well, it's practically unheard of with new brands. So yeah... not sure I need these but don't hate them either 🤷♀️
A wonderful, super thorough review as usual!!! 😁 I almost wish Mario had gone out on his own a few years back. I think this is a solid brand introduction, but the makeup market is so saturated at this point. His eye primer palettes and the metallic transforming palette are the only original items that got my attention. Everything else has been covered many times over, and I'm very comfortable with similar products I already have in my collection. Maybe I'll circle back in the near future.
just love how well spoken you are....your descriptions are soo well informed researched and eloquent. Finally a "guru" sans ummms and blaaas and soooo...i hope mario sees this....you just get it...loved this review
i loved the 'expensive' balm and how it gives you this effortless glow. Having said that - I'm a fan of natural-ish looking highlighters to begin with because i feel like that fits my lifestyle much more and 'instagram make up' with blinding highlighters only look good in photos or unless i'm going somewhere super fancy - which i'm not, because 2020! So, I think it comes down to aesthetic preference. BTW - i love your videos. Appreciate the humour and valuable insights you always share! xo
Thank you for giving us THE BEST review of this product launch so far !! I purchased most of the products on day one and have watched several reviews for inspiration. I enjoyed not only your application but your knowledge!!
WHY DID HE DO THIS! i know its' technically consumer but even for consumers it's annoying to have to flip over and read tiny writing. gimme some color on the palette to distinguish!
Hi! I’m a newer subscriber. Had been wondering how you can came up with your name. Love it! So enjoyed the background on Mario and your super thorough review! I didn’t get everything but am happy with what I did get and made same mistake with the gold highlighter I got. Was a disaster on my face but very pretty on the eyelid. Lots of love❤️❤️❤️
Oooh the metallics look so beautiful. I like the way the matte looks look lol but I can never do a matte look I can’t stop myself from metallics and shiny colors I’m so addicted to them! Like I would totally just buy his metallic formula. I think you and Mario have so much in common you should just start dating lol! Oh wait I don’t think you can 😉
Hello. Are you considering reviewing the new LORAC pallets? I really want to know where these pallets are being manufactured. The reviews I’ve seen so far have not said. I really appreciate that you always take the time to tell your viewers where products are being manufactured straight from the packaging. Since Ulta only sells LORAC online now I can not go into the store and find out for myself. It is also not listed on the LORAC website. It’s very frustrating not being able to find this information. It is important to me and many other consumers.
Thank you for such a complete, thoughtful and great review! I was curious about the metals, especially for that silver, and the liquid, as a alternative for my favorite mix (Silver from the Metalmorphosis Kit + Mehron Liquid). The silver looks a bit too blueish for my taste, and the liquid doesn't quite amp it up like I wish it would so I'm going to pass on that one!
I love you...you are(my) bible of makeup....the book of PMG....miss kinkysweat...the book of Natasha....miss kinkysweat....if I want anything make you are the first I go to....🤗
Best review of this brand on the internet ❤️ thank you for being super thorough and informative. Please try some more metallics shades perhaps live 🎨☺️
I may eventually look at the eye primer...right now I have too much. The products look nice...but I have all those shades. Would rather get PML quads and highlighter
I had ZERO DESIRE to buy ABSOLUTELY NOTHING from this line and then here is Alicia at 7:38 to 11:13, showing Diana want she needs to go and get her cc and get this NOW. DAMN IT
Fantastic demo and review. As ever, Kinkysweat awesome. I agree the ND gold highlighter palette is beautiful. So easy to use. I bought it when it was marked down and I couldn’t figure out why it was sooo inexpensive. Looks great on cheeks, eyes and lips. Thank you!
I LOVE the balm. It gives the highlight effect w/o the color/texture of the bronze or silver highlight colors. I would love to see more options using the metallic colors. Please make another video about that! I love having the "wet look" on my eye lids and even though I'm almost 50, I didn't think it made my eyelids look more crepey or wrinkly. I thought it looked great! I'm happy with this purchase of mine, esp. for a person who is issuing his FIRST release! I'm impressed and happy! And this makeup IS fun to play with!
I just did my nails and they are stupidly long, so let's see if i can type this in less than an hour. I am, as Hannah says, following the future career of this brand with great interest. When I saw the palettes, the first thing I thought was Viseart. I don't wear a lot of matte shadows, but I am very devoted to viseart and ND for mattes. I am somewhat intrigued by the metallics, but I have several Viseart shimmer palettes and a health collection of singles (and then the ND and PML wardrobe, plus a few indie palettes). I love a balm as a base for powder highlights, but I have several that are exceptional and I'm working through them. I appreciate the eye highlight, but I have it, more than I want. When I think about Mario and what I find impactful about his looks, it's skin. I'm not sure I think his work is more impactful in that way than Scott Barnes (neither of whom invented the modern contour - Kevin Aucoin), and I'm not sure Mario's the one who brought it to the makeup enthusiast's consciousness, but for sure he did with the mass consumer. So that's what interests me. Especially if he can sell it without huge palettes (looking at you Scott). My point is, I think this is the starter kit for someone super into makeup but without years under their belt.. Better price point than Viseart, more comprehensive than any 2 ND or PML palettes, likely more approachable. FAR better than midrange palettes in terms of variety (and likely quality). I don't think this is for me, but it doesn't mean I cannot appreciate the vision and goal and I think this is an excellent collection for teaching makeup looks for someone who wants to up their game. I'm also older and tend to be more moved and more inspired by the makeup artists who began working in the 90s. I may gift one or more of these products for sure. And then wait to see what he does with complexion.
I bought the mattes and the eye primer kit. I really like the primer. The mattes are less pigmented than I was expecting, but I don’t mind. I do find the wear off much quicker than the other brands I have in my collection. I ordered the shimmers and the balm as well.
I am not interested at all in this launch, I already have all the products I need in my collection, I had no intention to watch another review about it but when I saw your video, I couldn't help myself as usual 🤣. I really liked that you gave us a background about Mario and that you explained for each product how you were supposed to use it and why he created them that way, what was his vision. You made a lot of research! Now I understand his launch and have the respect for his choices he deserved, even if I still won't buy anything because I just don't need it. Thank you for the great job, this video was very informative and interesting 👌🤗
Can you Please make a video where you use the mixing medium with other palettes - like the new Divinity metallic and duochrome shades etc. I am wondering how this product can be used to make a duochrome eyeliner or used with other powder products. Even matte would be interesting. But especially glitters, shimmers, other metallics etc. 💓
Love your video's. I don't know what it is about this collection but I am not loving it let alone even liking it for whatever reason. It is just not doing it for me.
Hi Alicia, you got me at this is a doozy of a video. 😂👏 But of course I'd love to see you review this line from your fellow New Yorker and all around talented, humble man.
Nice review, but I wanted to mention that it’s more of Kevyn Aucoin who popularized contouring in the 90s and 2000s, especially with his books “Face Forward” and “Making Faces.” I’m an Alabama makeup hobbyist, and most people I knew close to my age group who were interested in makeup knew about contouring before Mario even met KKW, and we weren’t particularly well-connected. Perhaps it’s more accurate to say that he helped bring it to Gen Z and the youngest Millennials? If Kevyn hadn’t have died in 2002, I’m sure that we’d have been watching YT videos with him demonstrating contouring over 10 years ago. 😢 I miss his artistry.
I agree! I think Mario played a role in maybe a resurgence, perhaps? Do you feel it was recognized by more consumers rather than professionals, or do you feel like Kevyn connected with consumers as well in the 90s + 2000s? I’m sure if Kevyn was in IG, it would’ve been a wrap!
Sis where was RU-vid back then where was social media even.. She never not once said he invented it gosh.. Just give credit where credit is due.. And I'm a 85 baby and can say he played a Major Role stop with the backhanded compliments... Talking about i miss him!!! This isn't about him.. Rude.
kinkysweat I definitely think his role in its resurgence goes with the online streaming boom! Makeup hobbyists were far less common around the country in the early 2000s. Then stores like Ulta and Sephora started popping up around the same time as access to better internet and streaming services, and suddenly access to makeup/education became cheaper and easier. Far more young people today would associate contouring with Mario and KKW, so while that could be considered popularizing it, it might be more akin to passing the baton. Just to be clear, this was not an attack, as I’m sure plenty of people nitpick your every word. I mainly wanted to start a conversation about something I felt was important and also thought that you would be interested in discussing. I’m sorry if it came off as abrupt or accusatory.
Meaghan Holt oh you are totally fine! I took your response as a teaching moment, because it’s helpful to know more details! I love that you’re a makeup hobbyist, because you introduced a perspective that’s important to include in this conversation! 💕🤓
This collection seems very "a la carte" which isn't a bad thing but hooboy, could add up if you actually wanted the entire collection. There's something very minimalist about it that I like but I already have $$$$ invested in my neutrals & special shades. I'm kind of interested in those concealer/primer palettes, I'm still searching for a primer texture/formula that works for me without irritation. If I had to describe his aesthetic or this collection I would call it Enhanced Realism.
I remember when Mario and Kim Kardashian came out with their collaborative palette. I really like the metallics palette. Beautiful colors! I don't think $45 is bad for a 12-pan palette. I just saw where Scott Barnes just released a new palette for $125! It looks gorgeous, but yikes!
You really are so damn good at this!! Just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the level of research & detail that went into this, and all your reviews...so damn helpful! And talented, beautiful & entertaining etc as well. I really want the eye base, balm & pencils to start. And the liquid liner too, I usually skip it for exactly the reasons you describe cuz they just get all gummed up! I have a lot of pretty, sparkly eye products in my collection (hence the gummed up liner!) so I think I’ll skip all those but the mattes & mixing material are on my “can’t justify it as filling a significant gap but but would get a lot of use out of so could be VIB splurge budget” wish list
THANK YOU FOR THE REVIEW!! I am going to pick up the matte eyeshadow palette and either the citrine or quartz eyeshadow highlighter. Interested in his eye prep and set kit, but don't know if I reallyyy need that lol, I love the concept and idea though!!
Only 6 minutes in and I just love your reviews!!! So through and girl you kill it, hilarious and knowledgeable 💖 You got skills girl!!! Thanks for being so animated and fun 🤩
Fabulous job-as always. I’m very interested in the eyeshadow base palette. I just wanted to share that Temptalia is reporting that Pat McGrath’s Holiday quads (Rose Risqué, Interstellar Icon, and Fleur Fantasia) will be released on October 9th. The lipsticks are supposed to be launched on the 9th, too. Is that what you are hearing as well?
Thank you for this amazing review! I love Mario and I want to support him. I purchased 3 of his palettes as soon as they were released. I will get them tomorrow, hopefully. I own several high end palettes but I keep using mario's master palette from ABH so damn often, it is one of my all time fav palettes... I have 2 back ups! They make your eyes look so soft and make me feel naturally pretty. While I enjoy doing a bold eye here and there, I always come back to a more subdued natural look. I watched Marios' IG tutorials, his new line looks beautiful and I can't wait to try them on. I just adore his make up approach.
His products make me interested in playing with the shimmers! I would love to see you try the main shimmer shaded wet with fix+ etc, and also mixing the metals palette (would the blue and gold make a beautiful green??) Would you be interested in experimenting? 😁
